New Kids video debuted over the weekend

Filed under: Style in the News, Videos, Celebrities with Style

The trouble with being a teenage pop star is that you start running out of money in your mid 30's -- then you have to get the boy band back together and go on a totally lame reunion tour. So it is with NKOTB, but at least they're their latest look is way more fashionable than the old terrible haircuts and acid-washed jeans.

Their first video in 14 years starts out like a commercial for some new Tommy Hilfiger fragrance or boxer-briefs. Thankfully, the director didn't opt for any scenes with the aging icons in their skivvies. We have to assume that the boy band -- now man band -- is getting in on some of this fashion designer sponsorship payola, but we're not sure who's dressing them yet.

No real surprises here, the music still sucks. The main difference between this version of NKOTB and the last is: it's starting to get really creepy. Get a load of that yacht that Joey is hanging out on. Nice touch.

Tim Gunn beats Stacy London

Filed under: Style in the News

If your wardrobe is a reflection of your true self, it stands to reason that a messy, outdated closet equals inner turmoil.

This will come as no surprise to anyone who ever watched Tim Gunn's Guide to Style on Bravo, or TLC's What Not To Wear. The transformation on each episode is always accompanied by tears and high emotions.

Here's the question. Your life is being dissected in front of TV cameras, presumably for the viewing enjoyment of millions. Which "therapist" would you prefer to experience:

Magic Fashion 8-ball: Acid Wash Jeans

Acid wash jeansBelieve or not, my first pair of premium denim was Miss Sixty acid wash jeans. I saved up my hard earned cashed and scooped them up; I still have those jeans today. Another thing you may not believe is that I am fashion psychic. I did it with the wide legs jeans on Lindsay Lohan (that particular cut has been dubbed an LA must-have) and you will find that I am about to do it again with acid wash jeans.

You see, two weeks ago I stepped into my closet to try on my acid wash jeans. No idea why, but they were calling me. I slopped them on (and they still fit) and thought these babies are making a comeback. I didn't wear them that day because I hadn't yet mastered the "look" I wanted.

Fast forward to this morning. I open up my issue of Nylon magazine and flip right to The Acid Test article. According to Nylon (and me) the '80s staple will be set to turn heads again this coming Fall. Brands like Superfine, Lux, Habitual, and Corpus will be "taking acid" with their new denim collections. Nylon advises that you don't spend too much on your acid wash jeans because this isn't something you can wear everyday and will most likely go out of style quickly.

How do you wear your acid wash jeans? Carefully. You do not want to look like some '80s punk from the street. Try mixing punk inspired accessories with something a little more preppy on top. Have fun with your flashback, er ... look.
