JCPenney taps Charoltte Ronson to re-up its brand

Filed under: Style in the News

Suffice it to say, everyone -- for the most part-- is sustaining themselves on some level of brokeness right now. As a result, the likelihood of one dropping more than forty bucks on a cute knit top or equally covetable accessory is slim to none in our current economic down turn. Luckily, there's Target's Go International collections for a smart and affordable quick sartorial pick-me-up.

And now, it appears JC Penney may be the next go-to destination for stylish women on a budget as well:

Charlotte Ronson, the downtown cool girl who designs whimsical tops and bottoms in her free time, has been recruited by JC Penney to bring her laid back aesthetic to its junior's department. The collection which is being dubbed I [Heart] Ronson will consist of everything from $15 for layering T-shirts and tanks to $26 to $44 for blouses, sweaters and jeans to $40 to $65 for dresses and jackets.

Sweet and cheap. Just how we like it! Expect all of the designs to begin rolling into JC Penney stores next February.

Bonobos belts- they're baaaaack!

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Men

We're sure you recall our pant crush on Bonobos. How could you not, the way we went on and on about the waist and the chimps and the ninjas and the stuff. It makes us all giddy just thinking about it. In fact, if we weren't doing real guy stuff, like sitting around in our boxers, drinking beer and watching the Olympics, we'd be wearing a pair right now. That's how we roll.

The guys at Bonobos like to look good, but they're over the whole tie thing. They decided to do something else with the silk- make it into belts. They are offering "premium tie silk wrapped around a durable backing, in a colorful array of styles and colors" in limited editions. That means buy quick.

Love David Yurman but cringe at the price? Get "inspired" instead!

Slightly less reprehensible than stealing from independent designers, designer knock-offs still exist in a moral gray area. While police are cracking down on counterfeit handbag makers and sellers in New York, websites like Finders Keepers openly sell costume jewelry "inspired" by luxury designers like David Yurman and John Hardy.

It seems to us that the line in the sand is whether or not the item is trying to pass as the real thing. That fake Burberry bag might pass muster at the Junior League lunch, but any lady worth her pearls will be able to spot these fake David Yurman pieces a mile away. Two miles away!

Bonobos: Pants for real guys as sold by ninjas

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Jeans, Men, Interviews, Style for a Cause, Product Reviews, Green Fashion

real guy
Noun
1. informal a man or boy
2. a man that doesn't fit into sizes designed for skinny teens or runway models, nor wants to; enjoys sports

Are you, or do you know, a real guy? If so, you most likely understand the frustration involved in finding stylish pants that fit. Even tougher is finding stylish pants that fit at an affordable price. It ain't easy.

Brian Spaly felt this pain, too. In fact, it bothered him so much that he decided to do something about it. He started making his own pants. He started making his own AWESOME pants.

Brian started to create pants for real guys. He developed a curved waist band to better accommodate the body, "a slight bootcut to flatter the figure, and less fabric in the thighs so they weren't so baggy and boxy."

Other real guys noticed. He started selling the pants out of his trunk to fellow college students and soon had professors investing in his promise. Bonobos was born.

Kristin Davis, fashion designer

Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte in Sex and the City, is launching her own clothing line with Belk.

Now, why would Kristin choose to launch a line at Belk, rather than Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, or one of the other higher end department stores? She has a very personal reason: "I grew up shopping at Belk. It was the nicest store we had, and I'd save my allowance to go to Belk."

Sleek, affordable Radius headphones

Remember when the iPod first came out, how those white ear buds were the coolest status symbol of cool coolness you could ever get?

Well, now everyone has them, and it's time for new, cool trendy earphones. For a while we thought it would be Bose, of the exquisite sound and $300 price tag. But those mothers are huge! They make us feel like we're wearing a bad DJ costume on the bus and at the gym.
