Tip of the day: Celebrity travel tips

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

Ever wondered how that flight to Miami on American Airlines turned you into a crusty, dry specimen before you even stepped foot on South Beach? What the hell?! We thought everyone looked as fresh as a celebrity when they stepped off of a flight.

Well if you want to look like a well-rested, well-moisturized star when you reach your destination, you have to work for it. A little bit. And then sleep. A lot.

Here are a few in-flight tips to will have you looking radiant once you hit the dock.

Tender toes tout: Adidas Johari ballet flats

We love the look of ballet flats and they are wonderfully convenient when you're traveling through airports -- easy on, easy off at the security checkpoint.

On the other hand, their thin soles can leave your feet feeling unsupported and sore. Plus we prefer something a little more robust, like tennis shoes, when we're trekikng around a new city.

Except, yuck, who wants to look like an ugly tourist in the tennis shoes? If only there was a cute pair of flats with nice cushiony soles...

Is this outfit too sexy for air travel?

Filed under: Events: On the Scene

Too provocative for Southwest AirlinesWord to the wise: dress like a grandma if you want to fly Southwest Airlines.

At least that seems to be the new company policy, after a customer service supervisor nearly removed Kyla Ebbert from a flight because he thought the college student's clothing was "offensive."

Granted, this isn't the best-looking outfit I've ever seen, but it's not that bad -- and it's certainly not that revealing. However, when the Ebbert asked the surly Southwest rep what was so wrong with ensemble, the snarky fashion fascist simply replied, "The whole thing."

Clearly, the clothing isn't the problem, so my theory is that the overzealous Southwest rep has deemed himself Fashion Police of the Skies, or simply thinks attractive blond women are some kind of threat to national security.

10-Minute Manicure is on-the-fly beauty

Ah, air travel.

Unless you are traveling a fairly short distance, you have pretty much a whole day devoted to the skies. Of that whole day, half will be spent waiting -- waiting in line, waiting during a layover, or even worse, waiting due to a canceled flight. Instead of eating crappy airline food or reading InStyle magazine for the hundredth time, why don't you pamper yourself with a manicure?

Three working mothers from Florida were so sick of the constant waiting that they took matters into their own hands and opened up 10 Minute Manicure, a chain of airport based express salons.

So far there are over eight salons in American and and the newest location in JFK is a step away from the new American Airline's 1.3 billion dollar terminal. They aren't stopping there; five more 10 Minute Manicures will open this summer including Newark, Dulles, Miami and a second salon at JFK.

Ladies the salon even sells FAA approved mini bottles of nail color so you can touch up any oops that may come from unexpected turbulence. And fellas, the salons are gender neutral so you can get a mani/pedi too.
