A couple of months ago, we filled you in on the first transgendered contestant on "America's Next Top Model." Well, Isis King is now back in the spotlight, because Tyra Banks is making Isis' transformation complete -- she's hooking her up with gender reassignment surgery.

Tarina Tarantino's mini top hat: the price just might make your head explode

You may have seen this crystal-encrusted, Dita Von Teese-reminiscent hat before. The quirky headpiece was featured on a highly-amusing episode of America's Next Top Model, in which everyone busted out their very best Cirque du Soleil imitations while modeling Tarina Tarantino's accessories line.

America's Next Top Model being made into a video game

Filed under: Style in the News

We admit it. We lurvvvvve America's Next Top Model. In fact, this current crop of model wannabes may very well be our favorite group of mannequins to date. With that, we have absolutely no shame -- maybe just a little -- admitting that we're just the slightest bit excited about a new video game that will be based on our reality TV guilty pleasure.

The Nintendo DS game will allow fans of the show to guide models through various photo shoots and challenges when it drops November 7th. Each week, a model hopeful is eliminated, just like on the show, and the gamer who can push their model to the end wins.

America's Next Top Model winner, Jaslene Gonzalez shares words of wisdom for this season's contestants

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Celebrities with Style

Whether it's fights with celebrities, snarky judges, or a transgendered model, America's Next Top Model always knows how to attract controversy -- and ratings! But that's exactly what makes Jaslene Gonzalez, who won the show in 2007, such an anomaly: she brings zero drama!

Throughout the show she was cool, calm and actually friendly, proving that nice girls can finish first. I caught up with her at a private party in New York City and after marvelling over how good she looked in a simple tee and jeans, I had to ask her what winning strategy the contestants can use this season. "Take it as a learning experience. That's what it is. Go in there like a sponge, be open minded. But at the same time be confident and know what your objective is. My objective was to win."

Tyra's fierce transgendered contestant speaks

Just in case you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks, we're all going to be inundated with lots of fashion-related television programming this fall. Some of it looks really promising (The Rachel Zoe Project), and as is the norm with most reality shows, some of it looks really, really bad.

We're not sure where Tyra's eleventh cycle of America's Next Top Model falls on this line, but we're most definitely tuning in this season, which begins on September 3rd. If only to see how far Tyra's first-ever transgender contestant, 22-year-old Isis Tsunami, makes it in the competition.

Recently, Entertainment Tonight aired a preview of the new ANTM season and they gave us our first glimpse of the model wannabe in question. In the clip, see Tsunami in all of her glory.

Britain's Missing Top Model explores the question of beauty and disability

Filed under: Style in the News

A new BBC show is ready to challenge the fashion world's notions about marketable beauty. Britain's Missing Top Model, like American's Next Top Model and the ilk, brings together several beauties and puts them through a series of competitions where they have to use real life modeling "skills." The winner is awarded with an exclusive photo spread in Marie Claire, and presumably lasting fame and fortune.

The twist? These models all have some form of disability.

Gah. As much as we hate Heather Mills and would rather stick pins in our eyes than give her credit, perhaps all of her gawking around on Dancing With The Stars did some good.

Tyra, you've got some competition.

While America's Next Top Model is officially out of session, there is another fashion reality show vying to takeover ANTMS's Wednesday night prime time spot:

Janice Dickinson's former protégé gets her own show

Filed under: Style in the News

If you haven't heard of Abbey Clancy yet, you probably will soon.

She was last seen in a British TV program called Beauty and the Best (not beast, oh no), in which Janice Dickinson tried to teach her how to be a successful model. It was basically an exercise in cruelty, with Janice and her pals making Abbey network at ghastly parties and walk down sunset Boulevard in revealing swimwear. Janice also informed her she was terrible at posing and at strolling the catwalk, and that she would have to break up with her man (English soccer star Peter Crouch) if she wanted to be successful.

The usual car crash television, basically.

Cleveland's Next Top Model

Tyra's Top Model show in other countries actually creates successful models

Have you ever wondered why Tyra Banks never picks women who actually go on to work as professional models after they win America's Next Top Model? Either there's an ANTM curse, or something funky is going on. Personally, we think that Tyra doesn't really choose her top girl based on her ability to succeed in the fashion industry. We believe there's a greater conspiracy going on to choose women who have better stories and will keep the TV audiences' attention. But, in other countries that's not the case. Top Model shows in several other nations have had their models go on to international success.
