Why aren't you wearing this? Color-Block Croc-Print Flats

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

Two trends that we can expect to continue through the fall season are color-blocking and animal prints. And, as you are probably well-aware, purple is the color this autumn, although there's something even more popular -- saving money in this uncertain economy.

Why aren't you wearing this? Croc-embossed Bangle

We love animal-inspired accessories. Animal prints and faux skins have become even more popular in mainstream fashion after the safari trend this past spring and summer, and we're anxious to continue incorporating these looks into our fall wardrobes. However, for some occasions, such as work, we prefer to keep our animal embellishments on the subtle side.

Why aren't you wearing this? Jansport Laptop Sleeve

We know that not everyone has a job in which they can carry around a leopard print laptop bag. And, even if they can, it might not always match what they're wearing. But, that doesn't mean they don't want a little animal print (or something equally funky) in their life, right?

That's why we're digging these Jansport Laptop Sleeves, available at Macy's for $35. You can carry your computer in as boring a bag as you like, knowing that there's something way more interesting behind the zipper. Kind of like underwear, but underwear you can show your co-workers. Okay, underwear you can show your co-workers without getting fired.

I want that! Joy Brant in Alexander McQueen

Her fashion sense reflects her name in our books – joyous. At the Alexander McQueen store opening in L.A. a few months back, the lovely Joy Bryant wore one of the designer's killer tiger stripped strapless maxi dresses.

Only Joy can make something that could go so terribly wrong look so right... and cute! We just love how she always has such a casual glamor about her. Hell, she pulls off McQueen with a jean jacket better than anyone we know.

Roberto Cavalli does designer Coke bottles

Filed under: Style in the News

We guess its safe to say Roberto Cavalli is on a mission to cover every inanimate object in animal print.

WWD reports
the Italian designer has been tapped by Coke to re-work their classic Diet Coke bottle for the hip crowd that will be descending upon Milan in September for fashion week. Cavalli designed three bottles, all wrapped in different animal prints, that will be sold in Italy from September through December.

But don't get too excited, Italian lovers. There are only going to be 300, 000 of the limited-edition Diet Coke bottles made. So unless you can sneak into one of those uber swanky fashion parties cum fall, you're just going to have to pray that one of the bottles makes its way onto Ebay.

Why aren't you wearing this? Giraffe-print belt

We are really digging the safari trend this year. The khakis, browns, and blacks are so easy to mix and match, pretty much anyone can pull off, and it just begs for gorgeous, funky accessories.

Why aren't you wearing this? Giraffe bracelet

The safari trend is huge this season, and just because you're not quite ready for this, that doesn't mean you can't find a way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe that suits your personality.

Leopard Print for Summer

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing

Leopard print never goes out of style, argue with me all you want, but it is timeless. Leopard print amateurs typically wear it with red or black and slip it in their outfit when they want to look a little foxy. Leopard print and other animal prints are often associated with the cooler months as well (perhaps it's the whole fur thing) but the truth is leopard is in style year round. There are plenty of ways to incorporate it into your wardrobe this summer; something as simple as a watch with a slick leopard face or you can hide your wild side with a pair of leopard panties; there is a bit of leopard for everyone.

Dolce & Gabbana Animalier

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Style in the News

The animal print has long been a signature tool in the Dolce & Gabbana arsenal. The primal allure of the animal print is an integral part of their Italian sexpot design style. Their new Animalier line for Winter 2006 is an homage to the leopard print. They pair luxurious leopard with bright white leather. The look is glam and definitely not politically correct. I'm surprised we haven't seen Victoria Beckham toting one of these yet. The line is on sale at Neiman Marcus at prices starting around $225 and heading up over $1,000.

Seven Days of Style: Making tracks in animal print shoes

steven by steve madden persuade ballet flatsWe already know that you can wear leopard print from head-to-toe (but maybe not all at once, overeager fashionista). However, what if you like the look of the leopard, but don't quite want to fully sport the spot? A good way to do it is to dress in your usual style, but show a little bit of your wild-child side in your shoes. We went on a little shopping safari and hunted down cute/sexy/pretty shoes that feature everything from leopard spots to zebra stripes:

Sunday - Meeting Mom and Dad -- in fact it's going to be the whole entire clan -- for Sunday brunch? You may not have a whole lot of time to put on your whole face, but it's fast and easy to slip into a pair of adorable ballet flats from Steven by Steve Madden in leopard suede. The "Persuade" flat is available at Nordstrom for $109.95.

Seven Days of Style: leopard prints

Filed under: Handbags, Haute Home, Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Swimwear and Lingerie

leopard print belt ann taylorAnimal-style is taking over for fall, and we're not talking about grilled onions and secret sauce on a Double Double at In n Out Burger. Designers have brought leopard prints up and out for fall, and what was once seen as a little "Vegas slut"-y is now ultra sexy and sophisticated. Here are seven ways to add animal-style to seven days of your life, without the fat and calories. Just don't go overboard and wear it all at once.

Sunday - Off to the church potluck? Keep it subdued with a little bit of leopard in your accessories. A thin, leopard print belt from Ann Taylor wrapped around your waist is just enough "crazy" against your conservative black trousers and camel-colored cashmere twinset. J. Crew also has one for $68, and if you're going ultra-luxe, D&G's is $340.

leopard print watch - betsey johnsonMonday - It's back to work, but you're late for a meeting! And you only know this because you've been admiring your wrist, adorned with a fabulous little watch with a leopard print band by Betsey Johnson. Work in a very corporate atmosphere? Anne Klein's leopard printed ovals are a little more subtle.

leopard print tote bag - j. crewTuesday - You're meeting the girls at the mall during the lunch hour so you need to trade in that laptop bag for a handbag you can grab and go. Save that itty bitty clutch from Roberto Cavalli for the weekend, and tote along J. Crew's Downtown Hobo.

leopard print shoes - steve madden lalo1Wednesday - It's Hump Day, but smile, girlfriend. Tonight, it's Happy Hour and though you've got on a pair of leopard print ballet flats under your slacks, you have the cutest pair of Christian Louboutin leopard print peep-toes in your tote that'll roar when you make a quick change after work. Oh yeah, who has $825?!?! Steve Madden has a similar style for $150.

leopard print dress - absThursday - So you scored a date at Happy Hour last night but you have nothing to wear. Show him your wild side with a leopard-print halter dress from ABS or a wrapdress by Diane von Furstenberg. Not ready to reveal so much yet? A classy kimono-style with leopard trim should be suggestive enough.

leopard print lingerie - vistoria's secretFriday - If Thursday's date goes well enough, you just might need something sexy for Friday night, like a mesh babydoll nightie. Oh, Thursday was a bust? Then slip into comfy Bedhead pajamas and curl up with your best friend in the same.

leopard print apron - targetSaturday - You're throwing a dinner party! What better way to flash some animal sass with a little girlie class than a leopard print apron with pink trim? Oh, and please pass the hors d'ouevre on those gorgeous trays!

Jungle fever -- the leaf-print trend

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

A new trend for the season doesn't involve animal skin patterns, but leaves. iVillage.com writes about leaf-print products - shoes, dresses, and bathing suits.

I've never been too fond of animal print (leopard, cheetah -- whatever wild animal it may be). However, this twist on a "nature" theme pattern is quite refreshing to the male perspective. No longer must I see the gold and black patterns that should forever be banned, I'm happy to say that pleasing shades of green are in.

It's quite obvious that I can't say Wow, I would LOVE to wear this. I can, however, honestly say that a few of these items I would love to see on a significant other.

This keyhole leafprint dress (which functions as a halter-style or tube-dress look) is perfect for the dog-days of summer, maybe a shoeless sunset stroll on the beach.

One of my biggest turnoffs -- a leopard-print bathing suit. Luckily, Gap is with the program this season and has this palm-style print bathing suit, just the thing to avoid those gold and black polka dots.
