Celebrate National PJ Month while supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month with sexy Buxom styles

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

Buxom, as the name implies, is a line of sleep and loungewear for ladies who are generously endowed. Tired of trying to squeeze into the standard B-cup size, Buxom founder Christine Kurek decided to create some intimate apparel that actually fit.

The line is designed for average-sized women who have bust lines from C to DD. The chemises, nightshirts and camisoles are cut "more forgivingly" than the industry standard, so your bounty doesn't overflow, if you know what we mean. They also have a plus-sized line coming out in Spring 2009.

As you would expect for a breast-centric label, Buxom is observing Breast Cancer Awareness Month by donating 20% of the proceeds from sales of their pretty and popular Knot Chemises in the month of October. The money will go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Even though we know it's sleepwear, it's tempting to wear some of these lively patterned chemises to a party! Since October is also National Pajamas Month, so you just might be able to get away with it!

Stereo Bear: Apparel you can dance to

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

Apparel you can dance to? What kind of corn are we selling here? The kind you can pop like it's hot (that's the design on the featured shirt by Stereo Bear, we couldn't resist, okay we'll drop it now).

Arbor: Eco-friendly shirts with style

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Men, Style for a Cause

Even if Arbor didn't make awesome apparel (and skate and snow boards) it would be a great company. They have a commitment to the environment that would make Al Gore blush, and that's saying something.

From their website: "Arbor's long-standing assertion is that solutions to many of today's most difficult snow, skate, and apparel design challenges exist in the natural world."

Here are some samples of their shirts for men:

Kiyonna for the curvy girls

Filed under: Stores We Love, Clothing

kiyonna plus size clothingWe like to cover fashions for the curvy girls, and I've just come across an online boutique that does gorgeous, sophitsticated dresses for women who are size 12 and up called Kiyonna. Kiyonna is actually the name of the brand, and they do dresses, formal wear, and other special occasion clothing. The thing I like about Kiyonna is that for formal and evening wear, the designs are great. We know that plus size or not, sometimes formal wear can get into the strangely bright, almost Prom-dress-like feel.

Kiyonna dresses are sold on their website, as well as in select boutiques.

Three picks from the last day of Bluefly's Fall Sale

Filed under: Handbags, Stores We Love, Accessories

bluefly fall saleTechnically, the fall season doesn't end until the winter solstice, which is in December, but for discounted designer etailer Bluefly, today is the last day of their Fall sale. I just took a peek and while designer duds are never cheap, even on sale, the discounts are still fairly deep. Here are a few favorite picks:

Dress of the Day: Free People Knit Tuxedo Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

free people knit tuxedo dressBecause it's Friday, it's casual, and yet you're not quite feeling the jeans -- perhaps it's all that bloating from your Chinese take-out dinner last night.

Whatever the reason, this dress is perfect. From Free People, the Knit Tuxedo Dress is comfortably casual because it's soft-knit like a tee-shirt and loose, and yet is a little dressed up with tuxedo-style front that has crocheted striping and a ruffle-trimmed button-up placket. It's a mini-dress, so wear tights (or leggings if you have to) with knee-high boots or cute little patent leather black may janes.

The dress is available from Urban Outfitters for $98.

Dress of the Day: Grey Ant Mim Wrapdress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

grey ant mini wrap dressThe wrap dress is always flattering, with the way it crosses over in the front, creates a slimming V-neck, and drapes around those parts of our figures we'd like to hide, and thanks to Diane von Furstenberg, wrap dresses are also totally chic.

Grey Ant's take on the wrap dress is made with a very soft, knit acrylic and wool blend. The ruching at across the front and at the shoulders make it a little more forgiving in those areas for those of us who have already fallen off the summer fitness wagon, but at a mere 33" long, the hemline hits just above mid-thigh, making it pretty daring. However, with tights and leggings de rigeur for autumn and winter, you'll have no problem wearing this dress out in comfortable style.

The Grey Ant Mim Wrapdress is $330 at Shopbop.

Celebrities do the wardrobe remix

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Celebrities with Style

jessica simpson michael kors bootsSometimes I have it in my head that celebrities have so much juice that designers and boutiques send them so much complimentary clothing, shoes and accessories that they never ever wear the same thing more than once. They have a pair of jeans for every day of the year. Shoes? Wear them out to dinner, then give them to Goodwill.

Not so! There might be some celebrity slaves to fashion who just can't bear to be seen in the same thing twice, but it looks like for the most part, they're just like us. They do the wardrobe remix, and wear their favorite jackets, jeans, and like Jessica Simpson, Michael Kors boots, all over town (not that I feel better that Jessica Simpson is just like me).

On the Fly: A website for the modern gentleman

Filed under: Haute Home, Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Jeans, Men, Hair Care

on the fly, website for the modern gentlemanIf you're shopping for the man in your life, or you are a man, then I've just come across a great website. On the Fly is an online shopping store "for the Modern Gentleman," but rather than simply offering the same old argyle sweaters and ties for men, the site offers everything from apparel to shoes, from grooming supplies to golf gear.

Sure, there are probably lots of men's sites that do that, too, but I love On the Fly's "Shop by Lifestyle" option, which lets you choose a certain lifestyle: Old School, Wall Street, Hipster, Professor, and Sportsman. Each lifestyle has a cute "Profile" of the typical man who fits into the category. I chose "Hipster" for that as of yet unfound Hipster man in my life. From there, I can buy the perfect gift for my Daily Show-watching, fruit-infused vodka-drinking, MINI Cooper-driving, Bohemian Loft-residing, India and Thailand-vacationing Hipster boyfriend!

Dress of the Day: Military mini shirtdress by T Bags

t bags mini shirtdressOh man. I can't even begin to express how much I love this dress. Yes, it's super light and airy looking, so perhaps a little out of season, but I can't help but want the T Bags Mini Shirtdress like Lohan wants Harry Morton. By slipping into a camisole first, changing that macrame thing (it comes with the dress, so save it for Spring) to something heavier like a wide leather belt, and adding some cute ankle boots, it could work for early fall here in LA.

The dress is $181 at www.shoprobertson.com.

Dress of the Day: Diesel "Pitzie" Shirtdress

diesel pitzie dressNot only is it the Dress of the Day. but the Pitzie dress by Diesel is also the Deal of the Day! The woven cotton, button front shirt/coat style dress in butter cream yellow is only $74 at Bluefly! That's quite a steal by itself, but considering the dress was originally $130, that's a significant discount.

Since it only falls 18" from the natural waist (short!), stepping into a pair of flat-heeled dark brown boots would make the outfit totally adorable. I love the slightly dropped waist with "belt" look, but the best part is, of course, the fact that the dress has pockets. Oh, how I love a dress that has pockets!

Fashionable fake-outs

Filed under: Accessories, Swimwear and Lingerie

spanx power shapersThere is absolutely no way that the semi-glamorous B-list celeb you happened to spy at the table next to you at lunch today looks that put-together naturally. Sure, she's probably blessed with a speedy metabolism, and maybe her grandmother really does have a porcelain complexion, but when it comes to what she puts on, she's got help. Let's just call them "fashion fake-outs," little hidden secrets that help make you look fabulous.

Shapeshifting
- No one, and I mean no one still wears pantyhose, do they? I hope not. However, the one good thing about those ridiculous things was the control top. Since we're free to go bare legged, the best thing we can do to help tuck our tummy in without the help of Dr. 90210 is a girdle. Don't be afraid of the word. I know it sounds like some horrible thing that your grandmother used to wear in the '50s, but these days, we can call them "shapers." Spanx is an entire line of underthings that help "shape" us where we might have a little too much shape.

Dress of the Day: B with G Collared Dress

b iwth g collared dressWith that little collar, this viscose/elastane A-line dress by B with G is smart enough to go to work with some nice low heels, but with a quick change into some sexy knee-high boots, can go straight to dinner with the girls. The dress falls 21" from the natural waist to the knee, but will definitely make you look longer and leaner with the angles empire waistline. It is available in black and brown from Girlshop for $143.

Retailers are worried about lack of "must-haves" for the Holidays

Filed under: Stores We Love, Accessories, Clothing, Shoes

shoppingIt's only October, so it might seem a little early to think aout Holiday shopping, but heck, we're already into Spring 2007 in fashion!

Nonetheless, retailers are worried that "must-have" clothing items have not yet appeared. According to retail analyst Kurt Barnard, "There is nothing new on the horizon. Why should you buy a new blouse or new dress if what the merchants offer is something that you already have?"

True. Layering and the long/big-over-skinny-pants look carried over from last spring into this fall and winter. That's good news for those of us who already have leggings and tuncs in our closets (and who want to save a little cash for Spring clothes), but bad news for stores. But who knows? We all know that there is always something out there that we must have that we haven't gotten yet, right? When we find them, we will, of course, let you know!
