Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style, Kids and Babies

The Jonas Brothers pose at the premiere of their live movieIf there's one thing the world needs right now, it's got to be more Jonas Brothers merchandise. Charging their way into the unbelievably saturated market of celebrity clothing lines, the family of musical prodigies have announced that they will launch a lineup of preppy argyle sweater vests, leggings, polos, jeans, jean skirts, etc. The line, appropriately named "Jonas," will be hitting stores in time for back to school shopping this summer.

Sweater vests for men - are you feelin' it?

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Men

With cooler weather coming just around the corner, we've noticed that all of the conditions are right for a sweaterific fall and winter for men's fashion. Cardigans, turtlenecks, and yes, even the nerdiest of all -- sweater vests -- seem to be turning up in all sorts of fall collections. While the sweater vest is an easy way to add some colorful layers to your wardrobe, we kinda have to wonder if men are really going to embrace the sweater vest this season -- or if that's just wishful thinking.

From what we've gathered, this year's sweater vest look is all about the pattern -- and the nerdier the better. Forget solids or pinstripes, its all about checks, argyles, or a bold houndstooth. Basically, anything reminiscent of an ugly retro sweater that your parents dressed you in as a toddler. We like the depth that a SV can bring to an outfit, but we don't expect to see many on the street. What do you think? Is the sweater vest going to be a hot item this fall?

Why aren't you wearing this? Over the Knee Argyle Socks

Filed under: Accessories, Celebrities with Style

Although we're loving summer at the moment, our fashion-forward minds are already getting excited about cool weather and hot fall trends. After all, who doesn't love shopping now for items you can't wear for three more months?

It goes without saying that some of the styles we saw in the Sex and the City movie should come with a "Don't try this at home" warning, and when we first saw these over the knee argyle socks (available for $14 at PatriciaField.com) on Carrie, we thought they were a prime example. But something made us take another look. And another. And, all of a sudden, we kind of love them.

Death to Argyle: Hip clothes for the golf course

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Clothing, Men

Dear Argyle,

We still love you. We enjoy you on our feet and also in a light sweater. We have nothing but respect for you and your timeless style. Please do not be offended by the following review.

Yours,
Styledash

Mark Twain said, "Golf is a good walk spoiled," and he may have been on to something, especially if the club he was playing at had a strict dress code. Especially if he was a woman.

Did Diablo Cody make leopard skin jump the shark?

We're right there with Kristen Seymour on loving a bit of leopard. And Diablo Cody is a full on inspiration to us lady writers -- you will find zero hating round these parts.

But...

Ever since the Diablo Cody awards ceremony (over) exposure tour, leopard skin, either as an outfit theme or accent, seems a bit...tired.

Dress of the Day: Argyle Hoodie Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

argyle hoodie dressThe word of the day today, Sunday, the last weekend day before Thanksgiving, is...comfort. You are starting at the Farmers' Market to pick fresh produce, then zipping across town to place your order for your fresh turkey, then jetting back to hit up the grocery store, the kitchen supply store, the craft store for your tablescape, and finally grabbing a stack of placecards from the printer on your way home. You are busy. You are active. You need a comfortable outfit to whirl about town.

The natural choice for fast and functional is sweats, but how will you flirt with the barista behind the counter when you buy a bag of Thanksgiving Spice blend for the big day? This adorable Argyle Hoodie Dress has the comforts of your favorite hooded sweatshirt, including pockets so you don't lose your keys, but is absolutely adorable with its short puffed sleeves, V-neck, and argyle detail at the shoulders.

The dress comes in red or gray, and is available from Modcloth for $59.99.

Argyle style!

The argyle pattern has been around for a long time, with its origins said to be dating back to the Campbell Clan of Argyll, a western region of Scotland, according to Wikipedia. And this pattern, an array of diamond shapes in a diagonal checkerboard arrangement, is not, in my opinion, going out of style anytime soon.

It's always there to add a little color to the typical sweater or a little excitement to the standard pair of dress socks. It's a great way to portray the business-casual look, which is useful for work, dates, or simply a night on the town with friends.

This season, Banana Republic and J. Crew (two of my favorite brands) have joined in on the argyle addiction, with both companies debuting several argyle sweater options for the fall. The first six sweaters pictured on Banana Republic.com sport the argyle pattern, and J. Crew has several choices, too. J. Crew utilizes lambswool, while most of Banana Republic's sweaters are cashmere. (Okay, it's mostly wool and only 10% cashmere, but still!)

Both companies also have a selection of argyle socks. If anything, argyle socks are bound to get you a few comments (whether they're positive or negative).

Summer is over, so it's time to start investing in sweaters and dress socks. So why not make them interesting with argyle?
