When fashion designers and journalists meet at a catered party, guess who are the only ones eating?
Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) president Diane Von Furstenberg charmed the crowd at Rockefeller Center Monday night for the announcement of nominees and honorees for its 2009 awards. One of the most popular and effective presidents in the CFDA's distinguished history, she did not hesitate to address the elephant in the room, a certain gaudy party-crasher known as "the recession."
This year brought some big changes in red carpet makeup -- namely, a serious lack of it. We've gotten so used to the heavy, dark, smoky eyes and bold red lips on even the youngest of actresses that seeing anything less is ... well, a little shocking. But, at the same time, completely refreshing.

There was a lot of gray and silver, black and boring on the Grammy red carpet last night. Justin Timberlake wore a gray Prada suit, Fergie wore a Badgley Mischka silver minidress, Vanessa Minnillo also went silver and short, the Dixie Chicks wore basic black as did Scarlett Johansson. Everyone kept their breasts discreetly covered. Isn't the Grammy ceremony supposed to be the one time that everyone gets to wear their more outrageous outfits?
