five must haves for spring
You can't shop or surf the Internet these days without being reminded that yes, you should totally be shopping for Spring things, even though it might still feel like the Arctic. Get over it. You could use that excuse when it was February, but we've stepped into March, dolls. Spring officially starts this month and you can't be caught in the sunshine in a pair of cashmere leggings!

Look out for Styledash's Spring Essentials this week, because we may not be the Devil in Prada, but we definitely know what the hell we're talking about! Today, let's talk about the Five Must-Have Clothing Things for Spring.

Dress of the Day: Tiered Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

juicy couture tiered baby doll in tuckerYep, it's still warm here in southern California, but even if it's a bit chillier wherever you are, Spring is coming, and it's time to start preparing your wardrobe. Juicy Couture's pretty little take on the of-the-moment bohemian look is the Tiered babydoll dress in what they are calling "Tucker" brown.

The dress is 100% cotton with spaghetti straps and supported bust. The empire waist opens up into a full skirt that is tiered (hence, the name) with layers of eyelet and dark brown trim. In the Spring, theis dress will look cute with a pair of flat sandals, but for this transition season, shake up the look with a soft cardigan sweater thrown on over top and a pair of wedge-heel pumps.

The dress in part of Neiman Marcus' Last Call Clearance, $70 (originally $280!).

Dress of the Day: Chloe Jersey Babydoll

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

chloe jersey babydoll dressIt's the last day of the week that we're going to worry about that abdomen of ours before we really get serious about those 100 crunches every day. No, seriously, we are going to get serious about working out now. For real.

But today, we're slipping into Chloe's eggshell-colored, fine jersey babydoll dress. The dress is sleeveless with a rcrew-neck, has pleating on bust and below the high waist-line that is wrapped with self-tie black cummerbund. You don't have to worry about its light color as the dress has a white lining underneath. Falling just above the knee, the dress is made for a pair of knee high boots.

Chloe Babydoll Dress available from Net-a-Porter, originally $925, now $555.

Dress of the Day: Lux Brush Ribbed Babydoll

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

urban outfitters lux brush ribbed babydollLet's not forget that yes indeed, it is winter in the northern hemisphere, even though all I'm doing is dreaming about a luxurious beach escape. To keep it real for the season, the Lux Brushed Ribbed Babydoll Dress at Urban Outfitters is just the thing. The dress features a neckline that scoops into a ribbed top and slightly puffed ¾-length sleeves with a rib-knit cuff. Made of a polyester and rayon blend fabric, it's comfortbale to wear and care. The belt is not included, and I would probably not go with a tomato red -- black is more my thing, particularly since I'd be pairing this dress with a pair of black, flat heeled knee-high boots.

The dress is $48 at Urban Outfitters, and comes in charcoal (shown), teal, and nutmeg.

Dress of the Day: Mock Neck Babydoll

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

velvet torch mock babydollWe're going to assume you blew out all the stops last weekend. Twice. No, make that three times.

This weekend? You're going to take it easy, not because you have to, but because, well, you have to. You told yourself you'd give yourself time to recover, and some of your new year's resolutions were to 1) downshift a little on that social life that's gone into overdrive, and 2) be more mindful of your spending.

For your casual night of dinner at the corner bistro then a DVD at home, throw on the Mock Neck Babydoll Dress by Velvet Torch. The dress is a lightweight polyester with flared sleeves and a length that falls 31" from the shoulder to mid-thigh. That's perfect for a pair of leggingg or tights and some warm comfy boots (which you can kick off later to relax at home). The dress comes in black, chocolate, charcoal and red.

Available at Nordstrom for $52.

Seven Days of Style: What to wear to Thanksgiving dinner

Filed under: Holiday Style, Clothing, Jeans, Dresses

comfort clothesYou know it's coming, and perhaps you've been preparing yourself, both mentally and physically for the onslaught. You are going to be stretching your tight little abs to limits unknown to Denise Austin at the next big Holiday feast. If you're going to a formal dinner party, you have no choice but to slip into a sexy girdle, suck it in all night in your taffeta cocktail dress, and restrain yourself from seconds. However, if you're going to a friend's or family member's house for a casual, comfortable day of dinner and football, you can dress smartly for abdominal comfort. Styledash has seven suggestions of what to wear to your Holiday eating spree.

Sunday - The only thing I can think to wear on a day that involves non-stop eating and drinking from 9 am to 9 pm is a tracksuit by Juicy Couture because it's soft, has some give in the fabric, and most importantly, has an elastic waistband. Yes, perhaps the terry cloth tracksuit is on its last legs as fashionable wear, but for Thanksgiving and the Holidays, people aren't paying attention to anything but the dressing in the turkey and on the salad..

Monday - Thankfully, the Eiffel Tower jeans have not hit the US, so you're not going to be laughed out of your wardrobe with a pair of ultra low-rise jeans that will fit snugly around your pelvis and let your belly stretch out a little. No belt, naturally.

Tuesday - If you're more inclined to hide, rather than letting it all hang out, just go with lots and lots of loose layers.

Wednesday - Dressing up is not out of the question. You just have to be smart. A babydoll dress doesn't have a wasitline, and unlike regular empire-waisted dresses, the babydoll dress is gathered, then lets loose in the skirt.

Thursday - Wrap dresses are classy, and if they're made with jersey, they'll stretch and let you breathe after that second helping of mashed potatoes. In fact, you can slip away to the bathroom for a moment to re-wrap your dress a little looser.

Friday - Like the babydoll, a jumper doesn't have a waistline, and if you're creative, you can find one that doesn't make you look like you're eight years old. Then again, it might work if you're relegated to the Kids' Table again this year.

Saturday - The best bet for a Holiday meal is to dress sporty. Yoga pants will stretch as you eat, and since you're already dressed up, you may as well go for a walk and burn those extra 1500 calories you just ate. And that was just the salad.

Dress of the Day: Ivy Jumper

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

ivy baby doll jumper in black satinThanksgiving is only four days away, and whether you're hosting or guest-ing, you've got to think about what to wear. Even if it's a family gathering, forget about going in that foda-coma-comfortable tracksuit -- there's bound to be pictures taken, and you 've got to look great. This week. we'll pick a few dresses that will do just that -- make you look great -- and give you room for second helpings. Maybe even thirds.

A jumper, while not my personal choice for dresses, is a good idea because there is absolutely no waistline to butt up against (pardon the pun). You don't have to look like you just stepped out of the BabyGap catalog with the Ivy Babydoll Jumper. It comes in four colors, the best of which is the shiny black satin, perfect for a Holiday spirit. Pair it with a lightweight long sleeve t-shirt, or a tanktop if it gets as warm in your house with all those people, like it does at mine.

The Ivy Babydoll Jumper is $285 at Intermix.
