Learn to love bathing suit season

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

Not everyone loves wearing a swimsuit -- even if you feel completely confident strutting your stuff in a sexy dress, you might be a little more self-conscious in a skimpy bikini.

The thing is, when many of us think of one piece bathing suits, we think of what our grandmothers wore to the beach, complete with big flowers and flouncy skirts, but that doesn't have to be the case. There are plenty of one pieces designed to flatter your figure, provide coverage, and make you look super sleek and sexy.

Flatter Your Figure: Swimsuits for wide shoulders

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie, Flatter Your Figure

Some girls are born with a delicate, slight build. Others go through life with shoulders like a linebacker. And, while broad shoulders can make shopping for tops, dresses, jackets, and bathing suits a little more frustrating, we want to take a moment to point out that strong shoulders are sexy. So, the first thing you need to do with those broad shoulders is hold them up and back. Good posture, regardless of figure flaws, is always flattering.

Now that you know that, we can discuss specific bathing suit styles. Take a look through the gallery for suggestions of what to look for and, just as importantly, what to avoid. Happy shopping!

When we think of Old Navy's swimsuit selection, our minds instantly drift to preppy pink patters, flirty florals, and a few retro prints rounding it out. Imagine our surprise when we walked in and were confronted with a glamorous metallic, plunging, deep-v neck one-piece!

Trend Alert: Cut-out Swimsuits

Sure it's the end of January and it's freezing cold outside but it's never too early to think about swimsuit season. Now is the perfect time to hit the gym and tailor your diet for your big bikini body reveal! But the reality is those cookies are just way too good to put down. The diet can be put off for another month, right? Sure it can, I won't tell...

Ease your way into bikini season with 2008's hottest piece of swimwear, a cut-out swimsuit which is a little more racy than a one-piece and not as revealing as a two-piece. The cut-out swimsuit is perfect for those who want to conceal a less-than-perfect middle or for those who want something a little different than the average swimsuit. Just beware you are pretty much guaranteed to get a really strange look tan line.

Inc(red)ible swimwear

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie, Men, Style for a Cause

People seem quite content to wear Juicy slapped across their behinds but would you wear Incredible over your front regions? Fashion Week Daily reports that Project Red Emporio Armani is expanding the Red campaign. New items include a plan to distribute fragrances and jewelry and new products as swimwear, beach towels, tank tops, Bermuda shorts, and baseball caps. The Red project hasn't been a rousing success so far but perhaps this rather cheeky beachwear will help.

Five butterfly fashion finds for spring

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Swimwear and Lingerie, Dresses

My butterfly fever started when Marsha over at Luxist posted the most adorable butterly flats from Alexander McQueen. The simple little ballet flats adorned with fluttery beauties sent me on the quest for other butterfly-themed fashions for spring.

1) My favorite butterfly creation is this dress by Mary L. Couture, a graceful, empire-waisted halter dress emboldened by large, dramatic butterflies.
2) Nannette Lepore uses butterflies as one of her signature themes and they are also on her airy spring tunic.
3) Walk on butterflies with Juicy Couture's pink thong sandals decorated with scattered clusters of bright butterflies.
4) Another plus for butterflies, they make great figure camouflage as in this halter bathing suit from Be Creative.
5) Fashion on the cheap, a cute black and white striped tank from Target gets an added kick from the addition of butterflies.

The Bridget Jones bikini, for Brits only?

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

Good news for those looking for a little more coverage on the beach, The Daily Telegraph says that big-bottomed bikinis are in. Clare Coulson reports that when the larger bottomed bikinis made their appearance on runways a few years back they didn't catch on with fashion editors who thought they were a bit too close to the infamous granny panties seen in the Bridget Jones movies. But now that Miucca Prada showed high-waisted bikini bottoms on the runway the retro-styled suits might truly get their day in the sun. The flesh-covering suits are selling like mad over in England. The suit shown here, the Haiti Bikini from Sage Sarong sells for £69 and is just one of several high-waisted options. But where are they in the U.S.? I've seen plenty of tankinis and boy short bikinis but the ultra-high waisted bikinis don't seem to be making a big impact here yet. Has anyone seen these in stores yet?

Ten hottest bikinis

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

It's Fall, the time of year when leaves turn various shades of orange and red, and the crisp air prepares itself for the oncoming Winter. What better time to talk about bikinis? All right, so it's not really swimming weather, but the prices of bikinis are getting slashed like mad! Take advantage of the out-of-season merchandise and buy your dream bikini, complete with the comfort of knowing that you have almost ten months to hit the gym and chisel your body. Here's a list of some of the hottest bikinis to help you on your way...

String Bikini1. The Classic String Bikini: This baby is like swimwear's version of the little black dress... the very, very, very little black dress. It brings immediate Sports Illustrated sexiness (when not obscenely itty-bitty), but it does have a few downfalls... A) It doesn't offer much support and B) America's Funniest Home Videos has far too many accounts of these things flying away from water slides. If you don't have a rebellious bust and/or plans to take a 200 ft plunge into a pool of tourists, a string bikini will probably be the easiest choice. Victoria's Secret has a lovely and simple triangle string bikini for $24.

Almost a Bond Girl - bikini at Victoria's Secret

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

Victoria's Secret halter bikiniSo you weren't quite bikini-ready when summer started, but that's okay because the height of summer is the best time to buy swimsuits on sale, and if you buy now, you still have a good two months to wear it out by the pool.

There's no holster for a gun, but the style is very Ursula Andress with the belted bottom, and the halter style top shows off those sexy (sunless)-tanned shoulders you've been working on up until now.

The bikini is on sale at Victoria's Secret for $36 for both pieces, and the pieces can be bought separately. It also comes in white, aqua, and plum, but it looks the baddest-ass in black. Just like a Bond Girl.
