Reading in the tub... in the bookcase

Filed under: Haute Home, Style in the News, Books

We only have one bathroom in our house. Luckily, I work from home and seldom shower so our time conflicts are held to a minimum. Of course, even if I wanted to spend a moment in the bathroom I wouldn't be able to enjoy it. My two small boys see to that. The idea of having quality time in there is just a dream in our house, something that only happens in songs and movies. What songs? How about Rubber Ducky? See, I know what I'm talking about.

That is why I was so excited when I saw this Biblio tub from Antonio Lupi which features a beautiful rectangular tub with clean lines and lots of space (length, I'm 6'3) built into a bookcase frame. How sweet is that?

It's amazing what you can get for $17,000 these days. A library for the bathtub. It's too rich for my pocket, but not for my dreams.

Million dollar bathtub stolen

Filed under: Haute Home, Events: On the Scene

A gold bathtub valued at $988,100 was recently stolen from the guest bathroom at the Kominato Hotel Mikazuki in Kamogawa, a city south of Tokyo. The tub, which weighs in at 176 pounds, was mysteriously lifted from a 10th floor room in the hotel.

The bathtub happened to be a well-known amenity of the resort hotel -- guests and visitors were allowed to use the glitz tub for a few hours each day. But despite the ostensibly public access to the tub, the valuable piece was secured only by a chain attached to the bathroom door.

So far, the police have no leads on the case since there were no witnesses or security tapes documenting the theft.

I guess the lesson to be learned is that if you have a million dollar gold bathtub, you really ought to attach it to the floor.

Beauty bloggers show off their showers

I'm one of those horrible people who is always tempted to check out someone else's medicine cabinet when I'm visiting the bathroom. I'm not looking for strange prescriptions, I just like to see what beauty products other people are into and if we share any of the same product loves. It's a bit like browsing someone's bookshelves, I like to look for points of intersection and also things I have never heard of before. Recently Bon Bons in the Bath took on the task of archiving the showers of several of the blogosphere's best beauty bloggers. Ready for some product envy? My favorite is Annie of Blogdorf Goodman's product selection. Korres shower gels, Tocca body cream in blood orange and L'Occitane Amande shower oil are just some of the luscious products in her arsenal.
