Biggest earmuffs in human history?

Filed under: Runway Trends, Accessories, Men

While the world prepares for New York Fashion Week, Berlin has quietly been hosting a fashion week of its own. The event doesn't get nearly as much attention (with most of the major designers unveiling their collections in either Paris or New York) -- but, nevertheless, there's certainly been some interesting looks coming down the runway.

Like this guy. I don't know what kind of arctic freeze he's preparing for, but rest assured, when the blizzard of the millennium hits, he'll be ready. These gigantic earmuffs -- possibly designed for men with disturbingly large ears -- make the poor guy's head look like the meat on a really, really unappealing sandwich.

To be fair, the muffs were designed by a student at the School of Art and Design -- so, presumably, whoever created them is still learning. Or maybe they're just crazy.

Kaviar Gauche handbags make me want to go to Berlin

kaviar gauche handbags
Like a Little Black Dress, you can never have too many black handbags, and thanks to a new design duo out of Berlin, you can add a few more to your closet.

Kaviar Gauche, a line born from designing women Johanna Kûhl and Alexandra Fischer-Roehler, was nominated for the New Generation Award at Berlin Fashion Week in July. They do apparel, which is lovely, but what really caught my eye was their handbag and belt collection for Winter 2007. Just take a look at some of their pieces above, which incorporate multiple pieces of material put together in fantastic rounded shapes. I can't take my eyes off of the 3/4 circle-shaped bag in the lower left hand corner.

Not that it matters much to me, but celebrities like Brittany Murphy and Charlize Theron are fans of Kaviar Gauche.

The pieces are all available from their website.

Katie Holmes not allowed party with Hugo Boss

One of the benefits of being a celebrity is getting into whatever party you want. Right? While the rest of us Joe Schmos wait outside a club for an hour -- in the rain -- waiting to pay $20 just to get in the door, the rich and famous stroll right through, no questions asked.

But not if you're Katie Holmes, apparently. She showed up at Hugo Boss' opening party for Berlin Fashion Week on Thursday and were denied entry.

I'd love to tell you it was because Holmes doesn't have the cred to party with the world's fashion elite, or that Hugo Boss personally rejected the actress because he's creeped out by Tom's Scientology obsession -- but the truth is, it was a mistake.

Katie and her daughter, Suri, were barred because the building had reached capacity and the guest list was closed. And, as noted by a bystander who saw it all go down, "someone will lose their job over that decision."

The star apparently handled the snub very gracefully, and instead spent the afternoon playing with Suri in a nearby park. Way to take in stride, Katie!
