Carla Bruni - Another Nude Photo of French First Lady Surfaces

Filed under: Style in the News

Model Behavior: Carla Bruni in a photo sans all the expensive clothes during her pre-French First Lady days. Photo: Villa Grisebach Auktionen, Berlin

A nude photo of ex-model and current French First Lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, is going up for sale. And, no, it's not of the scandalous "stolen camera"/ex-boyfriend variety.

"Carla Bruni in Bed" -- a tasteful black and white image captured by the soft and feminine lens of legendary photographer Pamela Hanson in 1994 -- depicts the then model with nothing more than white sheets strategically covering her nether regions.

According to The Daily Beast, one of the ten numbered prints went up for auction on June 4 at Villa Grisebach Auktionen, a Berlin auction house, with bids starting at $3,380.

Last year's Bruni in the buff photo sold for a whopping $91,000 at a New York auction, but this photo didn't generate quite as much cash, selling for $19,600 to an anonymous bidder.

The real question is whether hubby and French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, was the anonymous bidder. Would he outbid everyone to take home what he gets to see everyday for free?

Style Evolution of Carla Bruni

On April 27, Bruni-Sarkozy met Princess Letizia of Spain. The European first ladies dressed up for a gala dinner at the Zarzuela Palace outside Madrid. Bruni went for classic, Audrey Hepburn-esque glamour in a black backless dress, while the Princess donned a dress befitting of her title - an eggshell blue satin gown with a glittering train.

This week marks Bruni-Sarkozy's inaugural visit to the U.S. as First Lady of France. Since marrying French President Nicolas Sarkozy in February after a whirlwind romance, Madame Sarkozy has charmed diplomats, heads of state and even the notoriously critical French public.

Madame Bruni-Sarkozy (in a purple Christian Dior suit) looks a bit shocked at a Bastille Day ceremony in July. Earlier that week, the singer/songwriter did the seemingly impossible and startled French sensibilities with her new album, on which she sings "You are my junk. More deadly than Afghan heroin. More dangerous than Colombian white (powder)," adding: "My guy, I roll him up and smoke him."

On the same album Bruni-Sarkozy sings that "I am a child/ Despite my 40 years/ Despite my 30 lovers/ A child," which must have been a great conversation starter when she and her husband welcomed Pope Benedict XVI and a contingent of priests from the Vatican in early September.

Earlier this summer, Bruni-Sarkozy played hostess to another religious leader. The Dalai Lama showed the retired super model the proper way to wear a Tibetan prayer shawl.

Entertaining famous and powerful men is nothing new for Bruni, who was at one time better known for her boyfriends than her career. Past conquests include musicians Eric Clapton (her date at this 1992 party thrown by Sting) and Mick Jagger.

The British papers went wild for Carla when she and her husband made a state visit to London in March. Columnists were torn: was she the new Jackie Kennedy or Diana, reborn? Fashion insiders were unanimous however, in heaping praise on the 40-year-old's wardrobe, which consisted of the best of the Paris couture houses.

For her meeting with the Queen at the ceremonial welcome at Windsor, Bruni made the smart but safe fashion choice: Dior.

Reese Witherspoon's 'Monsters' Style - From Red Carpet to Your Closet

reese witherspoon at monsters premiere
Reese Witherspoon almost always looks completely lovely. She's mastered the art of looking fashionable and on trend without giving up any of her signature ladylike style. Her look at the Berlin premiere of "Monsters vs. Aliens" is a perfect example -- she looks young and fresh, but really, the look itself is pretty much ageless, which is why it just might be the right look for you!

Diane Kruger in Zac Posen - I Want That!

diane krugerApparently we aren't the only ones with a major Zac Posen affliction. Gorgeous actress Diane Kruger chose a blush taffeta confection by the designer for the Berlin Film Festival. We love this gown because it takes all of the most romantic elements of 18th century French Rococo and Baroque periods and brings them up to speed with a shiny, crinkly fabric and neutral hue. Diane further modernizes the look by pairing color with color (Read: navy satin clutch) and topping it all off with a cute, jeweled headband.

Demi Moore in Michael Kors - I Want That!

demi mooreAt the Berlin Film Festival promoting her new film, "Happy Tears," Demi Moore showed us, once again, why she is still one of Hollywood's hottest. Before seeing her in this frock, we might have frowned upon a woman over the age of 20 wearing polka dots. But after checking out these shots, we are pretty sure polka dots are manageable for any age. If you wear them right!

The NME awards are notorious for eccentric fashion choices, but none of them could compare to the outfit "created" by "music artist" La Roux. Wow.

Naomi's extra-long gown at the Vanity Fair Oscar afterparty seemed familiar. So we checked and, sure enough, we had seen it before -- on Daryl Hannah in the 1984 hit movie Splash!!

Michelle Monaghan sports an orange Louis Vuitton dress with a sequined side cut out. And tulle. And net. And mesh. And matching LV shoes with feathers. Will it ever stop?

Keira Knightley's smug expression is just begging us to judge this outfit that's somehow too small and too big at the same time.

    Getty Images

We just have two questions: Why is Tilda Swinton wearing the human flesh dress made by serial killer Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs? And couldn't she at least have it tailored to fit her?

Neither the color green nor those unfortunate shoulder pads are helping Jennifer Connelly look any healthier on the red carpet -- girl needs to eat!

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, went pattern crazy while playing with the puppies at the Metropolitan Police Dog Training Centre in Cornwall, UK.

Up-and-coming Australian actress Teresa Palmer is drop-dead gorgeous. The shiny hair, the bright, expressive eyes, the thin-but-not-scary-skinny body ... she seems to have the whole package. Except, maybe, for the whole dressing for the red carpet part.

    Getty Images

The thing is, we love the fit of this dress -- it's super flattering and classy. And Teresa shines in light colors, so the white and beige is beautiful. But seriously, what is the deal with the beige bra cups?

Should we get past the weird boob accessories since we love the rest of the look so much? Or are those a deal breaker?

    Getty Images

Of course Teresa isn't the only celeb who suffers from the occasional red carpet flop. Scarlett Johansson clearly has her off days.

Oversized gold coat, check. High waisted pants that are way more frumpy than fashionable, check. What the heck was Scarlett Johansson thinking when she wore this outfit to the photocall for The Spirit in Madrid? This outfit is old lady-ish, and not in the sometimes hip Mary-Kate Olsen kind of way.

Mischa Barton falls into Berlin Fashion Week

Mischa Barton's days as an A-list actress are basically over. But, she's still big in fashion. From New York to Berlin, this girl will show up anywhere! Although actual Germans Heidi Klum and Diane Kruger didn't feel the need to make an appearance at their country's fashion week, no worries -- Mischa was there to make a scene instead.

Hurry! Kate Moss' hair extensions on Ebay

Filed under: Accessories, Hair Care, Celebrities with Style

Is it possible to be totally impressed and totally creeped-out at the exact same time?
Because that's pretty much the way we felt when we say that a German paparazzi type was holding one of Kate Moss' hair extensions hostage on Ebay. Apparently, while Kate was in Berlin last month, promoting her new fragrance Velvet Hour -- she had a wardrobe malfunction that's making this guy at least €805 ($1,269) as we write this post.

The story, as best we can translate, goes something like this: Kate was leaving her Velvet Hour afterparty thing, looking hot and showing off her flowing locks on the red carpet, when -- boink! -- one of her hair extensions popped out. Then, this opportunistic photographer dude immediately realized its value and snatched it up. Easiest couple thousand bucks that guy's probably ever made.

Anyway, you've got a little more than a day left to place your bid. If you're into that creepy, celebrity-stalking thing.

Fashion Week Deutsche-style

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Style in the News

The fashion scene in Berlin has grown steadily over the past ten years. With a vibrant youth culture based in the low-rent sections of the eastern part of the city, it's no surprise that ambitious endeavors in fashion, art and music have come out of the once-divided German capital. For the most part though, the avant-garde designs from Deutscheland have been considered niche-market novelties -- not collections for widespread consumption.

But all of that is about to change. In July, Berlin will host its first big name, international Fashion Week. The week-long fashion bonanza will featured the Spring 08 collections of Vivienne Westwood and Hugo Boss, as well as a few of the new faces in German design.

Just to prove that everything's coming up Rosen und Narzissen, rumor has it that next season's Top Model contestants will be headed to Berlin for the on-location portion of the competition.

Guess Tyra is going to have to figure out how you say, "Congratulations, you are still in the running to be America's Next Top Model" in German. Good luck with that ...

Deutschland gets a Fashion Week

Filed under: Runway Trends, Events: On the Scene

Believe it or not, fashion is huge in Germany. Even though the Rhineland may not have droves of famous designers like its European brethren Italy and France, the cultural presence of the fashionable arts is well, omnipresent. From countless magazines to endless catalogs and stores, the nation of Germany is, in the word of The Kinks, a dedicated follower of fashion.

Now Germany has an official IMG Fashion Week to add to its sartorial legitimacy. Presumably German designers like Jil Sander, Wolfgang Joop, and Kai Kuhne will be on hand for the inaugural event that takes place from July 12-15 in Berlin.

You've got Daniel Libeskind glasses

Filed under: Accessories, Celebrities with Style

Sure, he won the design competition for the reconstruction of the World Trade Center back in 2003, and sure he catapulted into the limelight as one of the world's greatest architects.

But did you realize that Daniel Libeskind also has great glasses?

As you may know, Daniel Libeskind's buildings -- which include the Jewish Museum in Berlin and the Danish Jewish Center in Copenhagen -- draw upon sharp angles, broken lines and empty space to convey a simultaneous sense of loss and continuity.

Daniel Libeskind's eyeglasses, however, draw upon right angles, straight lines and clear lenses to convey a simultaneous sense of style and nerd chic.
