Betsey Johnson is so crazy.
So we were at Fashion Forward on November 10, 2008, loving the heck out of everything Betsey Johnson sent down the runway (as detailed in our Betsey Johnson Totally Blew Our Minds post), when this happened (above). WTF, Betsey? We didn't know you were such a big fan of Red Lobster.

Betsey Johnson's final dress at Fashion Forward, November 10, 2008, NYC
Last week at Fashion Forward, Betsey Johnson showed a collection of dresses that totally blew our minds. Pop music blared, lights flashed, women with giant hair cascaded down the runway, and all we wrote in our notebook was:

Knee high pantyhose -- not just for your grandma anymore

We love trends that are easy to rock on any body type. This fall knee high pantyhose with short skirts or shorts have been making their way down the runway. You don't have to look like a supermodel to try this -- but you do need a certain amount of fashion savvy in order to not end up looking like a grandma!

The most unnecessary socks ever, brought to you by Betsey Johnson

Betsey Johnson socksSometimes pointless accessories are attractive enough to justify their uselessness, but these ballet style lacy lace-up socks from Betsey Johnson border on baffling. First of all, they look like they would fall apart at first touch. Secondly, what kind of shoes would work with this? Even the model legs in the sample photos can't make the socks look good, leaving the lacy edges sloppily spilled over the edges of the pump.

We can kind of dig what look they were trying to achieve, though, but we've seen it done better with a couple of cheap ribbons strategically wrapped up and around a pump-clad foot. It's a simple and cheap way to get the same ballet-inspired look without looking too ridiculous. Plus, it's another way to get a look from an otherwise average-looking heel.

Betsey Johson once made out with the late Anna Nicole Smith

Well, isn't she just pure class? Betsey Johnson is admitting that she once made out with now dead Anna Nicole Smith. She has a strange way of justifying her actions, though.

Birthday best wishes to Betsey Johnson, fashion icon!

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

We could kind of say that we caught it with Kristen's post on this drool-worthy ring, but really, we almost missed the 30th anniversary of the launch of the Bestey Johnson fashion label.

Betsey and her business partner and CEO Chantal Bacon had a big bash last Friday to celebrate their long and successful collaboration, which officially started on Betsey's birthday, August 10, 1978.

She and Madonna pretty much defined style in the 80s and her signature look is just as fun and popular today as it was 30 years ago, with embellished skulls, ruffles and bright colors. To celebrate her anniversary and because of popular demand (the best reason, right?) this fall will see the release of the Betsey Johnson Vintage Collection.

Why aren't you wearing this? Betsey Johnson Leopard Ring

Filed under: Accessories, Daily Obsession, Must Haves

We're starting to gear up for the back to school fashions (and the inevitable dress code restrictions), and one of the things we always like to add to a conservative is a really unique, offbeat piece of jewelry. We think this qualifies.

Especially if you just need reading glasses and don't have to wear a specific prescription -- reading glasses are not terribly expensive, and you can find some amazing frames to show off your personal style.

Call me baby! Telephone bag by Betsey Johnson

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Style in the News

Betseyville by Betsey Johnson 'Call Me, Betsey' Phone Satchel
Ring ring ...

Hellooo! Fabulous bag calling, pick up pick up.

I am a sucker for kitschy handbags. I have a bag that looks like a Chinese takeout box, a bag made out of a vintage book, even a bag that looks like a killer rack. Even with all of those crazy bags in my closet, I still have room for a few more. I think I will start with this bag from Betsey Johnson.

Betsey Johnson is having a little more fun with her Betseyville handbag collection by throwing this telephone bag into the mix. The purse has a detachable toy phone at top, a faux cord, and a dial design stitched onto the front.

The bag comes in teal, black, purple, or pink and will only set you back $65. A small price to pay for a lot of fun if you ask me.

Spring Fever: Lingerie Built to Please

Betsey Johnson
I don't know about you but I've got spring fever in the worst way. The weather is heating up and I just want to rip my clothes off. Sometimes it's nice to have something sexy under it all isn't it? I am in love with this sexy piece of lingerie by Betsey Johnson.

Ever since Betsey has started her lingerie line I can't get enough of it. Betsey has abandoned some of her cutsier pieces and replaced them with pure sex appeal. Go for her racy teddies or pretty in pink garter belts. No matter what you choose you will be ready to please this spring.

If Betsey isn't your style (read: not trashy enough for you), maybe you need to head to Trashy Lingerie. Trashy Lingerie is an L.A. based shop that also has an online boutique. This shop is not for the faint of heart because that stuff is freaky! The carousel collection is my personal favorite because it looks like a sexy ball of cotton candy exploded in a lingerie shop.

Britney acts crazy at LA boutique, buys yellow wig (that wasn't for sale)

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style

Oh, if only we all had the gumption to waltz into ridiculously-priced LA boutiques, make demands, and then storm out with stuff that was never for sale in the first place.

And so goes the latest story in the saga of Britney Spears. The former pop star turned mothering disaster recently decided she needed to have a copy of her favorite Dolce and Gabbana dress -- now. So she strolled into the Betsey Johnson boutique on Melrose Ave with the dress in hand, and proceeded to ask the store manager to make her a copy she'd be able to wear that evening.

The staff tried to explain to Britney that she was asking for the impossible -- but instead of coming to her senses, apologizing, and walking out like a normal person, Spears then decided that she wanted to buy a yellow wig off one of the store mannequins. It wasn't for sale -- which, again, was explained to the celebri-psycho -- but the manager finally relented and sold Britney the fake coiffure for $100 (probably just to make her go away).

Bad news: Britney Spears is still totally nuts. Good news: we'll probably get to see her in a bright yellow wig, which will be hysterical.

Lauren's Fashion Week Diary: Meeting Betsey Johnson

Filed under: Style in the News, Fashion Week

lauren messiah betsey johnsonAnyone who knows me (in real life or on the web) knows that I love Betsey Johnson. It's not just love thing, it's a full on obsession. I have been wearing Betsey Johnson clothes for years; I even worked at two of her boutiques. I am a Betsey girl for life so you can imagine my surprise when I saw her in my hotel lobby.

I saw her from behind and had no idea it was Betsey, I just thought it was a blond woman wearing Betsey Johnson. As soon as this woman turned around my jaw hit the floor. OMG! It's Betsey Johnson. I attempted to keep my cool and decided to walk up to her to say hello. Let's just say I wasn't at my coolest but once she gave me a huge hug the ice was broken and I was fine.

We talked for a good 15 minutes. She gushed over my coat (it was one of hers) and kept asking herself why she didn't keep one of those for herself. She talked about her daughter and the love of her life her granddaughter and she talked about her endless love affair with New York City (really, what can be better than New York?)

Meeting Betsey Johnson literally made my trip. I could have turned around and gone back to L.A. a happy girl but I think I will stay to see what other fashion miracles the universe has in store for me.
