The Riviera's topless sunbathers are covering up

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

If you visit the beaches of St. Tropez this summer expecting to find a magical place where women feel totally comfortable baring their breasts in public, you might be disappointed. According to an article in the UK Telegraph, the glorious tradition of Brigitte Bardot is on the decline. Apparently, bare flesh isn't as fashionable in the south of France as has been in the last few decades -- and no one's quite sure why.

When we think of the Riviera, of course we think of picturesque resort communities, but only after we envision beaches teeming with topless movie stars. Take away the topless women -- and it's just another über-expensive place to get a sunburn. Some are chalking it up to cancer concerns, others blame a rising wave of prudish conservatism. We know that in the US, nudist colonies are having trouble attracting members from the younger generations.

We say: if there's anything that never goes out of fashion, it's topless ladies.

Hot women in bikinis turn men into morons

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

Ever been at the beach and wondered why your man was in a fog? Though normally quick witted, he suddenly can't string even the simplest sentences together without tripping over words -- he's indecisive, and his brain wanders constantly like he's been sneaking sips of whiskey. So what gives?

According to a recent scientific study, it turns out all the boobs are making him stupid. This probably isn't news to you, but now it's been proven officially in a report titled: "Bikinis Instigate Generalized Impatience in Intertemporal Choice." (Read: "Bikinis make dudes dumb.")

Tip of the day: Suit up part 4, Tall

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie, Style Tip of the Day

Oh those lanky, leggy girls who can wear just about anything. Yes, that means the lucky few like Whitney Port, Blake Lively, Paris Hilton, and the fierce (and seriously scary) Naomi Campbell.

We dedicate the last "Suit up" installment to those long ladies that we secretly despise for their limby... uh... ness.

Fashion Week: Brazil

Filed under: Style in the News

Brazil may be more well known for their soccer team than anything else, but that isn't to say they don't know how to set a trend. Ever heard of a Brazilian wax, a Brazilian (thong) bikini or a Brazilian butt augmentation? Yeah, that's what we thought. Brazil knows what hot, so we thought that we should check out their Fashion Week, going on right now.

JG4B swimwear will turn heads on your winter vacation

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

jg4b bikinis
Even though it is November, after all, for some reason, it feels like summer just ended; maybe it was the weather in southern California that screwed us up. Nevertheless, it's fall, but that doesn't mean swimsuit season is over. With the December and January coming up, we start planning our winter vacations to sunny, tropical paradises! Now since you just can't be seen wearing the same five bikinis you were wearing all summer long, it's time to pick up a new one just for that beach resort. Jasper Goodall has a luxury swimwear label, JG4B, that features his bright, unique graphic designs, many of which remind us of the'70s. There are neither polka dots nor floral prints here. Gwen Stefani, Sienna Miller and Naomi Campbell are fans of Goodall's bikinis.

Ashley Paige responds to Baby Paige outrage

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Style in the News, Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie, LA Fashion Week, Fashion Week

ashley paige spring 2007Deidre went to the show, then Anne pointed out the little controversy that had flared up around the Ashley Paige Spring Collection 2007 show held in LA lat week. I received an email yesterday with a statement from the designer's PR firm regarding her "tasteless stunt" of showing a young girl in a bikini alongside women modeling bikinis.

According to the email from the PR representative, the girls were modeling mommy-mathcing swimsuits from the Baby Paige collection, and the media had "incorrectly [linked] the Baby Paige swimsuits on the girls to Ashley¹s completely separate adult swimwear line." The designer herslef stated: "It saddens me to think that people could in anyway believe I am trying to exploit children. I was not seeking controversy what I was seeking was simply for the girls to look cute and have fun, as kids do on the beach everyday in Southern California and most of the rest of the world."

Ten hottest bikinis

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

It's Fall, the time of year when leaves turn various shades of orange and red, and the crisp air prepares itself for the oncoming Winter. What better time to talk about bikinis? All right, so it's not really swimming weather, but the prices of bikinis are getting slashed like mad! Take advantage of the out-of-season merchandise and buy your dream bikini, complete with the comfort of knowing that you have almost ten months to hit the gym and chisel your body. Here's a list of some of the hottest bikinis to help you on your way...

String Bikini1. The Classic String Bikini: This baby is like swimwear's version of the little black dress... the very, very, very little black dress. It brings immediate Sports Illustrated sexiness (when not obscenely itty-bitty), but it does have a few downfalls... A) It doesn't offer much support and B) America's Funniest Home Videos has far too many accounts of these things flying away from water slides. If you don't have a rebellious bust and/or plans to take a 200 ft plunge into a pool of tourists, a string bikini will probably be the easiest choice. Victoria's Secret has a lovely and simple triangle string bikini for $24.

Welcome to Sexy Underwear Day

victoria's secret - lace rio thongIt's easy to be Aphrodite in summer when you're barely wearing a backless halter, a micro mini, or strappy sandals, but what is a goddess to do when cooler weather hits? Throwing on layer upon layer of thick woolens, chunky knits and heavy boots might make you look like the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man on the outside, but there is nothing stopping you from feeling sexy on the inside.

We want to bring sexy back, uh, to your back, so we'll be posting our favorite sexy underthings all day long for Styledash's Sexy Underwear Day. Don't worry, we know that sexy is a state of mind, so not all of it will be sheer here and barely there. But it sure doesn't hurt to rev up your day with a little lace. From boyshorts to bikinis, we've got you (un)covered.

hanky panky stretch lace boyshortBoyshorts - Not ready to bare it all quite yet? Boyshorts let you show nothing, but made of black lace, they sure do tell a little secret. ShopBop has a stretch lace boyshort by Hanky Panky for $32.

Bikinis - The classic cut with low, but full-coverage in the back and low-rise in the front. Target has a black lace hipster for $7.99. In fact, Target has a lot of sexy things for under $10.

victoria's secret very sexy lace tangaTanga - A powdered orange-flavored drink? No, a tanga is a type of underwear, similar to a boy short, with a little more exposure. We like Victoria's Secret's Very Sexy® Lace Tanga. The tanga is shown here in pink, but as always, Victoria has lots of flavors.

betsey johnson floral mesh thongThong - Betsey Johnson's Floral Mesh Thong has a little bit of pink floral in the print, and a tiny satin bow. Awww, isn't that sweet, just like Hello Kitty? Wait until you turn around. It's a thong, you sexy thang. Meow.

frederick's of hollywood harlow stretch lace g-stringG-string - Don't be afraid of the floss. It certainly seems uncomfortable, and no doubt, it takes a little getting used to when you put it on, but there are times when the string's the only thing that will save you from VPL. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Frederick's of Hollywood has an itty bitty Harlow Lace G-string for $14.

Skulls for seven days of the week

skull charm bikiniWe barely caught a glimpse of Kate Moss in Alexander McQueen's skull scarf, and perhaps the double whammy with the new Pirates movie, but suddenly the entire planet wants to wear skulls, whether it's a print on a fabric, or a charm on jewelry. Here are seven days of skulls just for us, dashing style.

Sunday - We know that the skull theme will likely go into fall, but you can certainly start easy in the summer. Relax by the pool on Sunday afternoon with a black bikini adorned with skull charms.

rocker skull tunicMonday - Back to the grind, but you can't get too crazy at the office. The Rocker tunic is just subtle enough to go into that meeting, but just creepy enough to keep that weirdo from accounting away from your desk.

Tuesday - LaRok's sheer crocheted skull tank here in black, but it also comes in a nude color called "dessert." Dessert?

dancing skulls necklaceWednesday - T. Cyia's Dancing Skulls necklace - the Opera length might be a little much (especially at $1100), but we're fine with the shorter version

paul frank skull teeThursday - Paul Frank is our friend, and though we love happy, smiling Julius the monkey, we're also loving a simple black t-shirt design called "Scurvy."

rock skull tankFriday - First it's happy hour, then off to the Sunset Strip for some rock and roll at The Whisky. Romeo and Juliet black ribbed skull tank, for the rocker chick in you.

rachel pally skull leggingsSaturday - Yeah, well we've seen these everywhere, and even though I am not a huge fan of leggings, let alone white ones, these are from Rachel Pally, current darling designer.

Almost a Bond Girl - bikini at Victoria's Secret

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

Victoria's Secret halter bikiniSo you weren't quite bikini-ready when summer started, but that's okay because the height of summer is the best time to buy swimsuits on sale, and if you buy now, you still have a good two months to wear it out by the pool.

There's no holster for a gun, but the style is very Ursula Andress with the belted bottom, and the halter style top shows off those sexy (sunless)-tanned shoulders you've been working on up until now.

The bikini is on sale at Victoria's Secret for $36 for both pieces, and the pieces can be bought separately. It also comes in white, aqua, and plum, but it looks the baddest-ass in black. Just like a Bond Girl.
