Aniston or Angelina - Which Team Are You?

With Jennifer Aniston turning 40 and still single, it seems like the whole world is once again trying to answer the most pressing question of our generation: Are you team Aniston or Angelina?

On the one side you have the wholesome Jennifer Aniston -- golden girl, yoga and dog lover, unlucky in love but she'll be America's Sweetheart forever.

Style Evolution: Jennifer Aniston

It is hard to believe that it's been more than a decade since everyone was lining up at salons to get "The Rachel." It's even harder to believe that the woman who made it famous is now 40. That's right, the lovely Jennifer Aniston hits the big 4-0 today. But if Aniston's recent red carpets (and magazine covers!) are to be believed, 40 is certainly not what is used to be. To celebrate Jen's big day, StyleList took a look back at the Style Evolution of everyone's favorite Friend.

Friends premiered on September 22, 1994 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. By the time Aniston wore this hideous ensemble to the Second Annual VH1 Honors in June of 1995, her "Rachel" haircut was being worn by women all over America. Luckily her fashion sense wasn't as widely copied.

    Terry McGinnis, WireImage.com

Jen got it right at the 53rd Annual Golden Globe Awards in 1996 in this timeless and classic nude dress. Unfortunately for her Friends Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, their choices haven't stood the test of time.

    Kevin Mazur, WireImage

Aniston wore this floral frock, and a longer version of her famous "Rachel" 'do, to the 1997 New York premiere of Picture Perfect.

For the 1998 premiere of her romantic comedy The Object of My Affection Aniston wore this very 1990s red dress with matchy-matchy red shoes.

No you didn't blink and miss Jen's dreadlocks phase, those are just product-laden tight curls that Aniston paired with her monochromatic ensemble for the VH1 Divas Live concert in 1998.

For the 51st Annual Emmy Awards in 1999 Jen picked this Randolph Duke mermaid gown and again went for a faux-dreadlock hairstyle.

Newly in love with her future husband Brad Pitt, Aniston bared her belly at the premiere for her man's film Fight Club in 1999.

After marrying on July 29, 2000 the newlyweds walked the red carpet together at the 52nd Annual Emmy Awards (Prada for her, Hedi Slimane for him).

As Brad and Jen settled into their marriage the duo got increasingly casual about their premiere style. Apparently Aniston didn't even feel the need to wear a bra for the 2001 release of her flick Rock Star.

Looming on the other side is the Other Woman, literally and figuratively. The dark rumors swirl around Angelina ... she's a blood-wearing, brother-kissing, husband-stealing vixen, and just how many babies does she need?

Style Evolution: Angelina Jolie

From a bisexual, knife carrying wild child to a humanitarian activist and mother of six, Angelina Jolie's life has change tremendously in the decade since her unsettling portrayal of Lisa Rowe in Girl, Interrupted catapulted her to superstardom. Not surprisingly, as her personal life transformed so did her wardrobe. With her 34th major film, The Changeling, hitting theaters this week Stylelist took a look back at the female half of Brangelina's style.

In 1986 legendary actor Jon Voight walked the red carpet at the 58th Annual Academy Awards with his unknown 10-year-old daughter Angelia Jolie Voight. If Jolie had realized all that white lace would haunt her forever she may have picked a more subtle dress!

    Ron Galella, Wireimage

Still a Daddy's girl, Jolie attended the 25th anniversary celebration of Midnight Cowboy (her father's most famous film) in 1994 wearing leather instead of lace.

    Steve Granitz, Wireimage

With two major films under her belt, Hackers (where she met her first husband Jonny Lee Miller) and Foxfire, 22-year-old Jolie boldly rocked a shaved head and a little black dress at the premiere performance of Fedora in 1997.

    Jim Smeal, Wireimage

Still a wild child, Jolie stuck to black while promoting her critically acclaimed HBO film Gia in 1998.

    Jim Smeal, Wireimage

A nominee for the second year in a row (in 1997 for George Wallace and 1998 for Gia), Jolie lightened up her color palette for the 50th Annual Emmy Awards in 1998.

    Jim Smeal, Wireimage

For the 56th Annual Golden Globe Awards in 1999 Jolie went for an uncharacteristically girly champagne sequin gown.

    Jim Smeal, Wireimage

For the 5th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in 1999 Jolie lightened her hair color and walked the red carpet looking very reminiscent of Marylin Monroe.

    Steve Granitz, Wireimage

A practitioner of method acting, Jolie was back in a dark place for her breakout role in 1999's Girl Interrupted. The disturbing intensity she brought to the part carried on to the red carpet for the film's L.A. premiere.

    Jim Smeal,Wireimage

At 24-years-old Jolie had two Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes and in 2000 she added an Oscar to her trophy list. Unfortunately her Elvira-like outfit and a proclamation of love for her brother garnered even more attention than her achievement.

The one universally agreed upon truth is that you like one or the other, but no one likes both.

Which way do you play? Will you stand by Jen, unlike someone we know (cough cough Brad!) or do you dream of being Angie's next adoption co-signer?

Banana's Birthday - Tip of the day!

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

As In Style recently put it, Banana Republic is "as American as apple pie." It's a place anyone can go and consistently come away with classic pieces with a contemporary twist that will hang in most closets they enter for decades (case in point, the cashmere sweater pictured). In celebration of the brand's past, present and future, many limited edition pieces are cohabiting stores with re-released icons and current, trendy duds for an unforgettable birthday bash.

Birthday best wishes to Betsey Johnson, fashion icon!

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

We could kind of say that we caught it with Kristen's post on this drool-worthy ring, but really, we almost missed the 30th anniversary of the launch of the Bestey Johnson fashion label.

Betsey and her business partner and CEO Chantal Bacon had a big bash last Friday to celebrate their long and successful collaboration, which officially started on Betsey's birthday, August 10, 1978.

She and Madonna pretty much defined style in the 80s and her signature look is just as fun and popular today as it was 30 years ago, with embellished skulls, ruffles and bright colors. To celebrate her anniversary and because of popular demand (the best reason, right?) this fall will see the release of the Betsey Johnson Vintage Collection.

Mr. Rogers remembered with Sweater Day

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Men, Celebrities with Style, Kids and Babies, Style for a Cause

On Thursday, March 20th, the 80th birthday of the late Fred Rogers will be remembered with Sweater Day. You may recall that the sweater was his signature piece. It's also something that most people already have in their closet. That's why they chose it over Loafer and Keds Day, and let's be honest, Trolley Day never really stood a chance.

I'm all for it. I grew up with Mr. Rogers (not personally) and remember his contribution to my childhood fondly. I just wish they had started observing his birthday a few years ago so my friends and I could have bought a keg of Iron City beer and listened to Weezer all night. Come on, you know someone has got to do it.

What's funny is that I hadn't thought much about Mr. Rogers over the years until today, and it wasn't this post that brought back the memories, but the fact that my four-year-old went on a field-trip today to the local planetarium and the show was narrated by Fred Rogers, a 'the planets in our neighborhood' sort of thing. I like to think that the people running the show have kept it due to the timelessness and all things good that is Mr. Rogers, and not that they have no funding and won't include the demise of Pluto until they get the Wiggles version in 2012.

But I digress. March 20th is Sweater Day. Wear one.
