Rose Byrne in Louis Vuitton - I Want That!

rose bryneAt the amfAR New York Gala To Kick Off Fall 2009 Fashion Week, Rose Byrne, for lack of better wording, completely killed it in this Louis Vuitton dress. It's such a mixture of opposing elements – romantic but fierce; sophisticated but playful; simple but complicated. We'll stop before we go into a tangent. But just know that this dress is it for us!

We also love the makeup for spring. The soft, slightly glossed orangey coral lip is right on trend for spring. Paired with barely there blush and minimal eye makeup, the look is totally crisp and a refreshing change from the bold red lip of last spring.

J. Crew Sanur Dress - Must-Have Dresses!

This week has been brutally cold and icy in New England, so naturally my thoughts have started to turn to sunnier weather and climes. That, or course, is exactly the reason why designers bring out their resort collections right about now - but you don't have to have a couture budget (or tickets to St. Bart's) to indulge in a little summery fun.

Case in point? J. Crew's Sanur dress - $68 - and convertible! You can fold the bodice over and wear it as a skirt, or put a cardigan on top once Spring arrives. Ah, summer. How we miss you!

Beyonce at Gotham Magazine Gala - StyleFab!

Revealing on the Red Carpet

This ladies and gentlemen, is what a superstar looks like: Beyonce wearing the heck out of a deceptively simple looking black turtleneck dress at the Gotham Magazine gala. She's gorgeous!

This is what people are talking about when they praise Beyonce's curves. She looks like a fantasy creation, and even though she is as covered up as possible -- what kind of shoes is she even wearing? No one knows! -- nothing is left to the imagination.

And this is how you put together an outfit for an event. Her hair: striking -- pulled back, out of the way, not fighting with the dress. The only jewelry: bold but simple earrings. She's not even wearing her 18 carat engagement ring, just some shiny red nail polish.

She is, however, wearing 10 pounds of "You're damn right I'm fabulous" attitude, which is what really puts this in the StyleFab history books for us. Sasha Fierce rulz!

Of course, Beyonce isn't the only celeb who goes revealing on the red carpet. The question is: Who pulls it off, and who's revealing too much?

Rose McGowan's barely-there "dress" is a little (OK a lot) too much.

Keira Knightley's tattered rags look like a stiff breeze could make the actress considerably less decent.

Someone should've told Gwyneth Paltrow that you can see right through that dress -- and we'd prefer not to.

    Getty Images

That's an interesting place for see-through fabric -- fortunately Teri Hatcher can make anything look amazing.

Backs are sexy, butt cracks are not -- even when it's Heidi Klum's.

    Getty Images

Tess Smith leaves very little to the imagination with this super-skimpy wrap-dress-thing.

Anne Hathaway appears to have forgotten something -- it's called a bra.

    Getty Images

Kate Bosworth uses some strategically-placed stripes to conceal her private parts.

Uma Thurman also seems to have forgotten her undergarments.

Olga Kurylenko - 'Quantum of Solace' Barbie StyleFoul

Olga Kurylenko
We totally understand the appeal of this dress, but we feel like we've seen it before ... perhaps on our Barbie when we were kids. But maybe that's exactly what Olga Kurylenko loved about it -- it's super feminine and very, very "Movie Star." A style like this takes glamor to a whole new level.

Reading is Fashionable: The Black Dress

The Black Dress
The Black Dress by Valerie Steele is great for those who want to look at pretty dresses and read quick and interesting quotes – no heavy reading required for this book.

This book starts off with an essay written by Valerie Steele, who is the Director of Chief Curator of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (which is fabulous if you haven't been). The book then continues with glossy photos of famously fashionable black dresses in history accompanied by fun quotes like this one:

"For her fifth wedding, the bride wore black and carried a scotch and soda" – Phyllis Battelle on Heiress Barbara Hutton.

For those who want a bit more meat, the end of the book has more detailed blurbs about each photographed dress and its place in history.

The book was nice; it was like flipping through a special edition magazine about black dresses. I would have loved to see more pictures as the book is pretty short but for small price tag I certainly got my moneys worth. The book is listed at $19.95 but is selling for a little over $13 at Amazon.com.

Styles that Stick: Breakfast at Tiffany's

Filed under: Holiday Style, Accessories, Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Dresses, Celebrities with Style

Breakfast at Tiffany's
If there's a style from the movies that is recognizable the world over, it's that from Breakfast at Tiffany's. More than 40 years later, the upswept hair, the black sheath dress, and a strand of pearls is a classic "look" that can never be bad. Don a pair of oversized sunglasses with your evening ensemble, and you're ready to go, Holly.

A cigarette holder and long black gloves might be overdoing it a little, though.

If so, you can purchase the iconic black dress that Audrey Hepburn wore in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany's. The dress, designed by Givenchy, will go on sale in December at Christie's, with an estimated price tag of 50,000-70,000 (that's $90,000-$130,000).

The proceeds of the sale will benefit the City of Joy Aid charity which helps underprivileged children in India.

The Ultimate Little Black Dress

Repeat after me: Every woman must possess at least one little black dress.

The black cocktail dress is a crucial wardrobe component, and why shouldn't it be? It is so elegant, so timeless, and so striking. But dare we say it, the quintessential little black dress tends to be so boring!

If you, on the other hand, are looking for the ultimate cocktail dress, look no further. Matthew Williamson makes the little black dress that comes with everything but the kitchen sink. The only caveat, however, is that you need a few grand at your disposal.

The Rosetti comes complete with a jewel-embellished neckline, beads, sequins, and feathers. As if that were not enough, there is a cute ribbon that puts the finishing touch on this package. Curiously, instead of looking like one big pile of chaos, the spaghetti strap dress looks more like the perfect dress for any occasion.
