Men's Undie Awards: the results are in

Filed under: Swimwear and Lingerie, Men

It's conventional wisdom that dudes don't care very much about what kind of undies they're sporting. Well, we say that's only a half truth -- almost all guys are partial to one form of underwear or another. There are few who are so bold as to one day go boxers, and the very next day, go briefs. That's crazy talk.

Now that the results are in from the 2008 Undie Awards, we know that plenty of dudes care about their skivvies enough to nominate their preferred pair for greatness. Not to mention, their votes helped fight cancer. Overall, the winners were all pretty safe choices, because that whole male lingerie thing hasn't quite caught on yet. Still, exotic choices like the male thong were on the ballot, and apparently a lot of men and their partners find them highly desirable.

Sick of thongs? We've got you (somewhat) covered

As much as many of us claim to love thong panties, we'd have to say that the thing we love is the lack of visible panty lines -- it really has nothing to do with comfort. Over at Divine Caroline they have a great post on alternatives to the thong.

Rapanui's eco-chic underwear

Filed under: Style in the News, Swimwear and Lingerie, Style for a Cause

A lot of designers take the position that fashion is all about looks and nothing about ethics. That's how we get things like the bacon bra -- where could you possibly find a less eco-friendly piece of underwear? If you're willing to get intimate with the problems that face our planet, you can start by exchanging your old-school undies for some eco-friendly underpants.

Rapanui makes ethical cotton underwear for men and women. They're a bit on the basic side, but simple is beautiful. The breathable, hypo-allergenic cotton is grown on reclaimed commercial farms where Rapanui works to remove all chemical deposits from the previous owners' operations. This soft fabric is not only gentle on you skin, but also on environment -- since it's factories are powered by wind and solar energy. Rapanui also imposes a 5% eco-tax on itself that it puts towards other environmental causes and organizations.

Tragic news: The end of International Male

Straight from the lips of Jezebel, we hear that the International Male catalog, salvation and source of summer holiday dreams for hordes of suburban boys who dream of looking "european" with other "european" looking boys is near extinction.

Foxers: Boxers for the ladies

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

Somewhere on the Foxers website it says "wear them like you stole them." That tagline alone should have these babies selling like hotcakes on college campuses across America.

Men want to feel sexy in their undewear

Filed under: Swimwear and Lingerie, Men

underwearI, along with others, I'm sure, often marvel at the lingerie industry. This is an industry that took a very basic staple article of clothing and turned it into a fashion piece for women. What's even more amazing is that the smaller the garment, i.e. the less raw materials, the more expensive it is. People, we are talking about underwear here.

However, it has always been women's underwear, and men are getting wise to the formula for success. What was once a decision between boxers and briefs for men has blossomed into full fashion. Not only have styles expanded into boxer briefs and even things that deserved a snicker, like bikinis and thongs, but the choice of colors, patterns, and fabrics has grown.

Men, like women, want to feel sexy in their underwear. While some men want to keep Victoria's Secret out of their boxers drawers, I say, "Bravo!"

Will Ferrell and American Apparel, in brief(s)

Filed under: Style in the News, Swimwear and Lingerie, Celebrities with Style

I may have loved Willl Ferrell on Saturday Night Live (especially as Alex Trebek). I may have liked Will Ferrell in Old School, Zoolander and even Austin Powers. But this may just be too much.

I have no idea why, but on the Megan Mullally Show this past Monday, Ferrell came out wearing only a pair of American Apparel Royal Blue briefs.

Does this mean that Will Ferrell also believes in American Apparel's provocative ads and anti-sweatshop ethos? Unclear.

What is clear, however, is that the man needs to do some crunches, stat! (A few less carbs also might help)

Vizeau, ultra-sexy undies for men

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie, Men

vizeauVizeau sells some of the most amazing underwear (and swimwear) for men I've ever seen. While the site is a bit of a sensory overload (turn down your speakers, seriously), the designs range from the brilliant to the outrageous. And, as you see from the pic, there's a "secret" undie section with some rather racy undergarments that I don't think are designed to be worn under a tuxedo. That is, unless the tux is designed to be ripped off the body quickly. The secret section is not safe for work, so be careful. Now I need to get to the gym so I can wear the less racy stuff!
