Vincent Shoes: Fun shoes for fun kids

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Shoes, Vintage and Retro, Kids and Babies

Once upon a time (1998) a little boy named Vincent was born in a land far, far away (Stockholm, Sweden). His uncle Thomas and his partner Patrick wanted to buy him some shoes, "something fun, a little functional, too."

Guess what they couldn't find. If you said "fun and functional kid shoes" you'd be right. You guys are good at this guessing stuff.

Thomas and Patrick were both well-versed in the fashion world and they decided to fill the void that they had discovered. A year later Vincent Shoes opened its first store and they all lived happily ever after.

Vogue ages gracefully with Kate Moss

Filed under: Style in the News

Kate Moss fans and wannabes, rejoice!

The iconic supermodel lands on the cover of Vogue magazine this month. Looking prim and proper, Moss is the face of Vogue's age issue, which also features Chris Everett, Ziyi Zhang, and John McCain's 96-year-old mother Roberta, amongst others.

Archive Vintage, the coolest online store

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Daily Obsession

We guess it's safe to say that we've all gotten just a little tired of the whole eco-friendly trend currently riding strong in fashion.

While we support any initiative that incorporates well-made clothing and benefits the earth we all share, the sight of one more graphic tee with a green message may very well cause us to bypass our recycle bin and throw our newspapers in the trash can tomorrow morning. OK. Not really. But we're kind of annoyed, to say the least.

Tom Ford, we love your accent

Filed under: Style in the News

Exceptional faux British accents. How many Americans have them? Madonna swears she owns a convincing one. We certainly don't. The last time we tried to pretend as if we were reared on fish and chips it ended with our friends giving us the stink eye and mumbling, "never again."

Sarah Lawson: The face of Christian Audigier

Filed under: Style in the News

Surprise! George Clooney just broke up with his model girlfriend, Sarah Lawson.

We suspect it must have had something to do with the fact that he was intimidated by her overarching knowledge of Benny Ninja's America's Next Top Model posing catalog, but more seriously, he was probably just as annoyed as we were with that little spread in Harper's Bazaar Miss Lawson sat pretty for about a month ago.

You know, the one where she poses in a thousand dollar ball gown on top of a motorcycle and smugly states how awesome it is to be Mr. Clooney's boo.

Save the planet, wear Simple Shoes

Simple Shoes are made to appeal to the hippy in all of us. They are made out of all sustainable materials, such as hemp, recycled car tires, organic cotton and bamboo. And no, contrary to popular belief, hemp is not marijuana. To quote the Simple Shoes website, "I mean really, if the hemp we use in our shoes got you high, don't you think we'd have enough money to hire some models for our ads?"

Not only are the shoes made from sustainable materials, but Simple Shoes is committed to making their business 100% sustainable as well.

To do that, they ship with less packaging materials, and use boxes made from post consumer paper or biodegradable bags (you can bury the bag in your garden and forget about it). They even clean their office with biodegradable cleaning products! It's nice to see a company fully commit to a green lifestyle, rather than selling green products just because it's trendy right now.

Some of the styles may be a bit too hippyish for the mainstream fashionista, but I'm telling you, the next time I need comfortable sneakers, I know where I'm going to buy them. As a bonus, they also sell adorable baby shoes, some nice messenger bags and even a laptop bag with a button made out of a coconut!

While maybe not quite on the cutting edge of fashion, they still have some very cute, very basic shoes. You won't find any four inch stilettos at Simple Shoes. But, you will find great flip flops and sneakers that are easy on the eyes and easy on the conscious, for those of you more environmentally aware types.

Browse through the gallery, and if you like what you see, head on over to their to buy shoes and support a great company!

Ivanka Trump uses her looks in the boardroom

You've made your way up the corporate ladder, working twice as hard as your male counterparts for the same amount of money, and fighting for gender equality each step of the way. Or maybe you're just the boss's daughter, and you get whatever you want.

Regardless, is it OK to use your looks to get your way in the big meeting?

That's how it works for Ivanka Trump, who's recent admission that "being young, blonde and, if you will, looking a certain way" can be used to one's advantage is one of the most obvious statements I've ever heard in my life. However, just because your, um, personal assets might distract the 50-year-old senior executive who's dabbling with a midlife crisis, does that mean you should flaunt them?

Should you use your looks to get what you want in business?

Macy's CEO is one stylish man

Filed under: Stores We Love, Men

The rather distinguished gentleman at right is an unlikely style icon but Terry Lundgren is the fashion plate of the CEO world. Lundgren is the CEO of the Federated department stores (which includes Macy's) and he is a man known for his sleek style. Even Donald Trump has given props to Lundgren dubbing him "an elegant man." Lundgren has the money to dress well, his total compensation in 2006 was a cool $16.27 million that includes a merchandise/apparel discount worth $48,382 which helps him being a living advertisement for the chain's 850 stores. Given that kind of budget, I would think anyone could dress well.

Moo cards: easy to order, stylish business cards

Moo CardsJust this morning, I received my ten-pack sample of Moo Cards and I couldn't be more pleased. Moo Cards are just like business cards, but about a hundred times better-looking. They're about half the size of a normal business card and matte and lovely. You upload your own photos to use on the front of the cards, which is perfect for artists like me, because I can use my own artwork and give the cards to potential clients. The card on the far left in the image is a view of the back of my card, which includes a picture of myself, my name, art blog, e-mail address, and phone number. Even if you don't need a real business card, these are a great way to give contact information to people you meet.

Cards come in packs of 100 for $19.99. There's currently a free shipping promotion going on, so take advantage of it!
