David Beckham's New Emporio Armani Underwear Campaign

Filed under: Style in the News

Beckham mania! The new Emporio Armani Underwear campaign. Photos courtesy of Armani

Selfridge's Oxford Street in London was a madhouse today when David Beckham made an in-store appearance to celebrate the launch of his Emporio Armani Underwear Fall/Winter 2009/2010 campaign.

Dressed in a chic navy Armani suit, Beckham signed autographs and held a special meet and greet with 300 lucky fans. Outside, thousands mobbed to get a glimpse of the stylish (and super hot) soccer star, in spite of the tube (subway) strike.

As for the campaign, there was a gigantic blowup of the new shot, similar to wife Victoria's campaign unveiling at Macy's Herald Square in NYC on May 6.

The look is a bit neo-Tarzan. Beckham is captured bare-chested with tattoos prominently displayed, while entwined in a a hefty, sailor-worthy rope. Oh, and of course, he's wearing snug Emporio Armani briefs. We got distracted. Can you blame us?

Kylie Minogue Gets Her Party On in New TOUS Ad Campaign

Filed under: Style in the News

Kylie Minogue plays party girl. Photo courtesy of TOUS

Kylie Minogue is the guest of honor, literally, in the new TOUS ad campaign. Donning a pink couture gown, the Aussie singer reveals her inner girly-girl for legendary photographer Ellen Von Unwerth. The playful party atmosphere involved giant teddy bears, countless balloons and confetti-covered floors, all set in a lavish suite at the Le Meurice Hotel in Paris.

Pretty, please! (With a cherry on top.) Photo courtesy of TOUS

Dripping in TOUS jewelry and accessories, Minogue plays coy for the camera, giving the impression that being the center of attention is so not a big deal. (We're guessing for Kylie that came pretty naturally.) The flirty tulle hemline of her satin dress hiked up just so, giving the heir of a coquettish socialite.

Britney's Candies Ads Are Out!

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

britney for candies
We told you last month that Britney is the new face of Candies, and, unsurprisingly, she's the body, too. And what a body! We're sure there was some airbrushing involved -- when is there not? -- but Britney looks young, fresh, and sexy. See for yourself!

Celeb Fashion Lines

These days, no self respecting celebrity can hold her (or his) head up in Hollywood without a clothing, shoe, handbag, or home furnishings line to call their own. But are these stars really qualified to add designer to their resume? StyleList puts them to the test. First up...
    Celeb:Taylor Swift
Fashion Line: L.E.I. Sundresses by Taylor Swift
Qualifications:The young country singer is releasing a line of frocks this February that her die-hard fans will love and moms can afford. We're sure Swift's brand will expand into denim.

    Charley Gallay, Getty Images

    Celeb: Dita Von Teese
Fashion Line: Science of Sexy for Wonderbra
Qualifications: This burlesque bombshell spends most of her time in scanty skivvies, so we're absolutely confident she is capable of creating amazing lingerie! Of her '40s and '50s-inspired line Von Teese says "Underwear isn't just something that you put on for your lover -- you wear it for you."

    Mike Marsland, WireImage

    Celeb: Lauren Bush
Fashion Line:Lauren Pierce (hits stores in Spring 2009)
Qualifications: An alum of both Parsons New School for Design in NYC and Central Saint Martins College in London, first niece and former model Lauren Bush definitely has a solid design foundation. Add to that an internship at Zac Posen, a boyfriend with a designer dad (her main squeeze is Ralph Lauren's son) and the success of the popular FEED bags she designed to benefit the U.N.'s World Food Program, and it looks like Ms. Bush has the chops to make her ready-to-wear sustainable fabrics line a hit.

    Astrid Stawiarz, Getty Images

    Celeb: Eva Mendes
    Fashion Line: Vida for Macy's
Qualifications: Calvin Klein's latest controversial ad campaigns features a naked Eva Mendes rolling around on a bed, so perhaps her new venture isn't really all that surprising. The actress and her boyfriend, film producer George Augusto, are launching a collection of sheets and comforters. While neither has any design background, we're betting the betting the lovebirds know how to make a cozy nest.

    AFP/Getty Images

    Celeb: Mischa Barton
Fashion Line: Mischa Barton for Stacey Lapidus
Qualifications:The former O.C. star gets more ink these days for her hair accessories than her acting jobs so maybe this is a brilliant career move: She's coming out with a line of headbands made from a wide array of materials including silk, feathers and crystals, ranging in price from $40-$200.

    Astrid Stawiarz, Getty Images

    Celeb: Janet Jackson
    Fashion Line:Pleasure Principle
Qualifications:Named after her 1987 hit, the fancy pants (and matching bras) will all retail for under $40. "There's something for every woman, and that's very important to us," Jackson says. "I've always hated when lingerie is uncomfortable, so the fit and comfort was key." Nothing nasty about that, Miss Jackson.

    Arnold Turner, AP

    Celeb: Lenny Kravtiz
Fashion Line: Inspired by Lenny, Worn by You at Kohls
Qualifications:Hmmm, we're not sure that even Lenny's biggest fans would be inspired to wear this denim, fringe and wings ensemble, but fortunately for those who do want to emulate the the rocker's style, his jeans and t-shirts line for Kohls is a bit more traditional.

    Kevin Mazur, WireImage

    Celeb: Tara Reid
    Fashion Line: Manta
Qualifications:Sometimes an actress, always a party girl, and now a designer. According to Reid her little triangles of Lycra are more than simple poolside attire, "It's about putting into the universe what you want in life: Red means love, pink is friendship, green is lucky, black is protection. You're gonna have a story when you wear this bikini or when you put this dress on: You'll either get love or meet a new friend or you might meet a guy." Big promises from little bikinis!

    Casey Rodgers, WireImage.com

    Celeb: Katie Holmes
Fashion Line: Holmes/Yang for Giorgio Armani
Qualifications: Mrs. Tom Cruise created her own storm at the LA premiere of "Tropic Thunder," debuting the first piece from her collection with stylist pal Jeanne Yang. But given the dress's sleek lines and navy blue fabric two Giorgio Armani trademarks it's a good bet that Katie got more than a little help from her silver-haired mentor.

    Wireimage.com

    Celeb: La Lohan
    Fashion Line: 6126 Leggings
Qualifications:Lindsay Lohan's collection owes its name to Marilyn Monroe born on 6/1/26 but it doesn't look like she captured what made the '50s bombshell so sexy. Does the modern American woman really need leopard print "ankle gloves"? Or glimmer leggings? Seems like La Lohan is channeling no one but...Lindsay.

For Badgley Mischka, Age Ain't Nothin' But a Number

Filed under: Style in the News

Badgley Mischka has been around for twenty years. There is no doubt that the men behind the brand, Mark Badgley and James Mischka, who met at Parsons School of Design in 1982 and formed their renowned house in 1988, have deserved every minute of their success, of course. But their 20th Anniversary Campaign is more than just celebrating two decades in the industry with a photo full of pretty starlets. It goes deeper than that for everyone involved -- the men behind the clothes, the women in the photos, the legend behind the lens, and the legions of loyal fans who love them all.

Scarlett Johansson for Dolce & Gabbana

Filed under: Cosmetics, Celebrities with Style

ScarJo has to be the hardest working 24 year old celebrity spokesmodel in Hollywood. She already starred in ad campaigns for Calvin Klein, L'Oreal and Louis Vuitton. Now she's the star of a campaign for the new Dolce & Gabbana makeup line.

Celebrity Fashion Ads

Bar Rafaeli, Leonardo DiCaprio's stunning model girlfriend, is the face of British retailer Marks & Spencer's new lingerie line.

    Marks & Spencer

Pam Anderson's new campaign for Vivienne Westwood is surprisingly hot. The blonde bombshell and her heaving, inflated bosoms aren't usually found in fashion mags -- but the quirky combo of Playboy centerfold and designer threads seems to work.

A sizzling Marilyn Monroe impression that's sure to sell some makeup.

    Katie and Posh's Dueling Ads
We know it's tough to tell the difference, but that's Katie Holmes on the left for Miu Miu and Victoria Beckham baring (nearly) all for Giorgio Armani. The campaigns launched within days of one another -- so the question is: who's hotter?

    Kirsten Dunst for Miu Miu
We prefer Katie Holmes, hands down.

    Heidi Klum for Jordache
The jean company was apparently trying to target the "hot mom" demographic.

    Kate Moss for Agent Provocateur
Arguably the iconic lingerie maker's most famous star.

    Liv Tyler for Gap

The ads features Scarlett looking just like Marilyn Monroe (because Christina Aguilera and the late, great Anna Nicole Smith haven't quite squeezed every last bit out of that look yet) lying on a suggestively rumpled bed, in a very D&G corset. Clichéd, but very sexy.

Scarlett will be promoting He's Just Not That Into You, and then taking a few months off before her next movie starts. You have to admit, if you were married to Men's Health cover boy Ryan Reynolds, you'd want to hang around the house and wait for him to get out of the shower, too.

We already know Fergie loves cosmetics by M.A.C. -- after all, it's the brand she chose to wear for her recent wedding. But, M.A.C. also loves Fergie -- she's the current face of their VIVA GLAM collection, and the ads show a fabulously feathered Fergie. And, unless M.A.C. does a better job at hiding flaws than we thought, there was a wee bit of airbrushing going on, too.

The shots, as you can see in the gallery, are sexy and surreal (and kind of makes us wish we had occasion to wear feathered corsets). And as hot as the photos are, they weren't taken strictly to garner attention for the VIVA GLAM line -- she's promoting a limited edition cosmetic for the company to help HIV/AIDS Awareness charities. The singer hopes this will help educate her fans about the dangers of the disease.

You know, we'd like to be all upset about the photoshopping being done here -- she's a beautiful woman wearing a ton of makeup to begin with -- but we think we're just becoming numb. And the fact is, if they hadn't airbrushed her, somebody would probably be writing about the fact that she didn't look like a dewy 20 year old. We're just going to focus on where to get one of those feathered numbers.

Is Katie Holmes slowly morphing into Victoria Beckham? First the fashion rivarly, then the increasingly-shorter haircuts, and now these new ads in which Katie almost freakishly resembles her friend and fashion mentor. In fact both have launched campaigns this week -- Katie for Miu Miu and Victoria for Giorgio Armani. Posh looks amazing as always, but we're more impressed by Mrs. Cruise.

Stacy London Uses Pantene and Her Hair Looks Great

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style, Hair Cut and Style

Ann Coulter to Michelle Obama - You're No Jackie O.

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Ann Coulter Bashes Michelle Obama

Ann Coulter delights in scorching Democrats with scathing political rants -- but who knew the right-wing pundit was an aspiring fashion afficionado? Her new book features a ruthless assault on Michelle Obama's sartorial success.

    Getty Images

Scoffing at comparisons between Michelle and Jacki O, Coulter bemoans the "freakish" fashion of our future First Lady: "the flipped-under hair, the sleeveless A-line dresses, the short strands of fake pearls -- would have been laughable if done by anyone other than a media-designated saint."

Ironically, this attack is part of the TV personality's new book, titled "Guilty: Liberal 'Victims' and their Assault on America."

    Getty Images

Predictably, Coulter (who, might we add, isn't exactly a fashion plate) isn't so scathing about fellow conservatives -- she heaps praise on Cindy McCain, writing: "[she] dressed well without freakishly imitating famous First Ladies in history."

    Getty Images

Ann Coulter's snide jabs aside, the fashion community continues to bubble with excitement about Michelle Obama's stylish approach to politics -- and we can't wait to see what she'll wear to the inauguration later this month. Keep reading to see our predictions!

Ugly "Wudi" Only Loves (Sponsored By) Dove Products

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

The opening credits for Ugly Wudi

Sure, all shows do some product placement. 30 Rock even makes a big joke of it, building it into the storyline. But Unilever has taken it to a ridiculous level in China. They aren't just doing product placement -- they own a whole show!

Unilever is the parent of Dove products, which were selling poorly in China under the "Campaign for Real Beauty." Rather than try a new campaign, their agency came up with the idea of producing a Chinese version of Ugly Betty -- Ugly "Wudi" -- who becomes beautiful by using Dove products.

(Wait, isn't the point of Ugly Betty about internal beauty?)

Anyway, as the exclusive sponsor, Unilever owns all of the commercials, all of the product placement, and even the script!

The show's star, Lin Wudi, gets gorgeous when, inspired by the ad campaign she is creating for Dove products, starts using them. The marketing team from Unilever managed to get 3,300 seconds of Dove brand into the first season of the show.

So what is this? A season long infomercial? Some kind of hybrid ad-tertainment? Genius marketing? Or an evil melange of all three?

Or is it just the future of ads and network television?

Celebs Get Naked for PETA

PETA is all about protecting animals in the wild -- but that shouldn't mean they have to make their celebrity campaigners look like they belong in the wild!

Khloe Kardashian's hair is out of control in this picture. It looks like a lion's mane. While crazy hair can be sexy in some instances, we think this is a little much. Her hair is bigger than her booty -- and when you're talking about a Kardashian rear-end that's saying a lot!

Plus, as with all PETA ads, the airbrushing team has gone overboard. Khloe and her sisters are all very pretty gals, but they do, in fact, have pores.
