Housewarming gifts from Sweet Grass Farm - So fab, you might keep them for yourself

Filed under: Haute Home, Fragrance, Skin Care

We've had moving on the brain lately. We're not sure if it's because we live in a college town and are starting to see the students creep back into town, with their cars overstuffed with bedspreads and bookshelves and beer, or because we moved fairly recently and are still feeling the effects (i.e. still can't find anything), but the fact of the matter is, we've been thinking about it.

And when we think about moving, we immediately think of housewarming parties. Trust us, we can turn just about anything into a party!

They are run out of Nashville and have a terrific Scandinavian fairy tale meets punk rock vibe, resulting in designs that are retro-cool and playful. Here's a link to a great video about the designers, Mary and Chris.

Product Review: Febreze candles

febreze scented candles
I am a fragrance whore.

Let me explain. (If you just want to read the review of Febreze Candles, jump ahead.)

My Dad has a very sensitive nose. When we were little, we weren't allowed to have anything in the house that smelled like anything other than air. The slightest scent could set him off, so we had to live in a house that had enormous windows and a very strong ventilation system in the kitchen. If Mom cooked something that could potentially waft into the rest of the house and linger with the fragrance of Korean food (quite possibly the strongest smelling food ever), she had to cook it outside. We used unscented everything -- laundry detergents, soaps, and lotions. Most importantly, we were never allowed to wear perfume, and we most certainly were not allowed to burn scented candles or have potpourri, things that were expressly for filling the house with a smell.

Aveda celebrates Earth Month

Filed under: Haute Home, Style for a Cause

Earth Day is coming up but Aveda is celebrating Earth Month. They are focusing on supporting clean water projects and raising money for the campaign for clear water rights. Aveda has chosen Global Greengrants Fund as their Earth Month partner. According to an article in Fashion Week Daily, Global Greengrants is channeling around $140,000 of this year's Earth Month proceeds towards water projects that support Aveda's indigenous and agricultural partners.

There are several ways to help out. You can send a text message containing the words "clean water" to #30644 to help let the United Nations know that you are concerned about clean water. Aveda is also selling the 2007 version of their limited edition Light the Way candle with the entire proceeds going to Global Greengrants. The candle is made of soy wax and is scented with organic Bulgarian lavender oil which comes from the Enio Bonchev distillery. The candle sells for just $10.

All I want for Christmas is Tocca's Stella candle

Expensive scented candles are the height of luxury in my book. While I am relegated to inexpensive, and hopefully inoffensive Yankee Candle scents, I do spend a lot of time daydreaming about what it must be like to light a $50 candle and curl up on the couch with a good gossip magazine and a glass of Oregon Pinot Noir. Ah, talk about heaven!

Right now, the candle of choice in my mind is Tocca Beauty's Stella candle. Scented with the fragrance of my favorite winter fruit -- the blood orange -- the Stella candle has a burn time of 60 hours. At $36, the candle is available from Sephora.com. If some family member or friend of mine REALLY wanted to get me something good this year, I'd say, buy away!

(Was that too obvious?)
