Lindsay Lohan - Reinvention of a Smart Girl

Lindsay Lohan, secret genius? Photo: Getty Images

When Paris Hilton was taking over the world, dancing from the table-tops of New York nightclubs to the world's TV screens through her hit reality show "The Simple Life," even sensible media outlets occasionally debated the issue of whether this seeming air-head was, in fact, an undercover genius. No such question was ever asked of Lindsay Lohan.

Now, I'm not so sure.

This week, Lindsay Lohan's Twitter page became the most compelling thing on the Internet. Named after her self-tanner (Sevin Nyne) and leggings (6126) ranges, http://twitter.com/sevinnyne6126 has become a unique combination of diary, dialog and self-generated gossip column possible only in the Twitter age.

From Disney Princess To MTV Host With 14-kt Toes

Who wouldn't want to be Adrienne Bailon?

As a middle-aged male journalist I usually try to keep such thoughts to myself. But speaking with the 25-year-old triple threat who recently made the jump from Disney star (she was Chanel, lead singer of the Cheetah Girls) to MTV host I'm thinking, "Hell yeah, I'd change places with her."

"I'm hosting this new show called 'Made Challenge,'" she explained this week before heading off to film in Connecticut. As the title suggests, the show is a spin-off of the MTV hit, with the twist that young people compete towards achieving the same goal.

As a New York girl who found fame in California, and then came home again, Bailon mixes east and west coast style in her wardrobe.

Celebs Score Swag at Upfronts Gifting Suite

Filed under: Style in the News

Photo: Jamie McCarthy, Getty Images

Forget the Upfronts, what's happening in back?

Upfront Week, for those who have never heard of this curious thing, is when the TV networks unveil their new season line-ups in a barrage of media events in New York City. Why an industry based in Los Angeles drags itself every year across the country, like modern day Beverly Hillbillies with their mattresses and actresses tied to their truck, is anyone's guess. But they do, and with them comes the spectacle of the Upfronts Gifting Suite.

This year's hot swag spot was the Lia Sophia suite at the London Hotel on W. 54th St. You might recognize the pretty thing in the photograph as Jessica Lowndes from CW's recently renewed "90210" series. As well as those Lia Sophia necklaces which look so good on all the girls, Lowndes picked up some Lancaster sun-care items and the latest "boyfriend" style striped tanks from Michael Stars, as well as a pair of Heelys sneakers with a roller skate heel.

"Dancing with the Stars'" Tony Dovolani also picked up some Heelys, and Ramona from "Real Housewives of New York" made out with three pairs of Habitual jeans, valued at $190 each.

Hopefully, one pair is for her to wear over her head next season.

Jamie Lee Curtis Wigs Out in Pink

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Hair Cut and Style

Hey Activia lady! What's with the pink hair?

Jamie Lee Curtis has long been one of our Hollywood favorites. She seems so real, and obviously, she's a lot of fun. For pete's sake, the 50-year-old showed up at the Noche De Ninos Gala and Concert this weekend in a bright pink wig.

Curtis was being presented with the Courage to Care Award at the gala, which was held to benefit the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. And, it turns out the pink wig wasn't just a fashion statement -- a 15-year-old (who lost her battle with cancer) had given it to her. What better opportunity to wear it than at an event for the Children's Hospital?

We have to say, we're glad this isn't a permanent look for Curtis. However, she's far from the only star who's tried out a hair color not found in nature -- check out the gallery to see who else has gone pink (and blue, and green). Let us know who your favorite is in the comments!

Jane Fonda - Still Sexy at 71

Just in case you needed an inspiration to get ready for swimsuit weather: See Jane go.

Jane Fonda stole the show at the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS 23rd Annual Easter Bonnet Competition in New York this week, throwing off a fur coat to reveal red and black exercise togs. We're talking real exercise wear -- not yoga pants and a baggy T-shirt, but a leotard and tights. She then led a mini-workout that showed age 71 can still look amazing.

Back in the 1980s, Fonda's workout videos sold millions of copies and women around the nation copied her high-cut bodysuits and spandex legging-looks.

She also always knew how to work a belt -- a great technique still for quickly "shedding" a few pounds no matter your age.

Fonda reports on her blog that she had a blast doing the show, and helping her team from "33 Variations" raise close to $200,000 for charity.

How does she do it? She reports a nap before the show was a good call.

If she's not inspiration enough for how to age gracefully, check out the photos in this gallery of sexy women in their 60s.

Sexy Stars in their 60s

Helen Mirren has played a royal so often that she could probably take over for a real one, but she apparently hasn't got a bit of the Queen's stuffiness. The Academy Award-winner has been everyone from a naked housewife (in "Calendar Girls") to a tough-as-nails detective (in "Prime Suspect"), and even at 63, is confident enough to walk the red carpet in this figure-hugging white dress at the premiere of her new film "State of Play".

    Gareth Cattermole, Getty Images

Don't call her granny, gray-haired or anything that even hints that she's something less than fab. At 69, Tina Turner still has a great growl, glorious gams and gyrations that could kill. And the singer, who shimmered (and shimmied) in gold leggings and matching Christian Louboutin heels during her 50th Anniversary tour stop in London, is not alone. Click on for more stars who just keep on rollin' well into their 60s.

Vacationing with her husband on Saint Barths, 62-year-old Soap star Susan Lucci showed off her fabulous bod in this itsy-bitsy green bikini.
Do you love Lucci? See her strut her stuff on the Heart Truth catwalk.

The one and only Grace Jones took to the stage at Camden's Roundhouse in London and wowed the crowd with both her performance and her physique! Now 60 years old, the former model and Andy Warhol muse still has to-die-for legs and a sense of style all her own.

    Ben Yacobi / WENN.com

Once the princess of punk, Debbie Harry, at 63, is now the embodiment of Baby Boom chic. Of course, no matter how (um) old she gets, the Blondie front-woman will still rock out and will never give up her signature yellow mane.

    Dimitrios Kambouris, Getty Images

Taking a dip during her Hawaiian vacation, Goldie Hawn looked sexy and much younger than her 63 years.

    Fame Pictures

Don't call her granny, gray-haired or anything that even hints that she's something less than fab. At 69, Tina Turner still has a great growl, glorious gams and gyrations that could kill. And the singer shown during her 50th Anniversary tour at Madison Square Garden is not alone. Click on for more stars who just keep on rollin' well into their 60s.

It's hard to say if Mia Farrow is better known as an actress (everything from "Rosemary's Baby" to a baker's dozen Woody Allen films) or her spectacular romances (marriages to Frank Sinatra and Andre Previn, and a fabulously sordid split with Allen). Still, at 63, the single mother-of-14 shown at Hong Kong International Airport is so burrowed in humanitarian work as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and an activist against the genocide in Darfur, that Time named her one of 2008's 100 most influential people.

    Andrew Ross , AFP/Getty Images

The most successful female recording artist ever, 18 No. 1 hits in the U.S. and 70 Top-10 hits since 1964, 64-year-old Diana Ross is still supremely cool. In 2007, she had the finalists on "American Idol" rocking her songs. In 2008, she not only captured a BET Lifetime Achievement Award presented by her five kids and Stevie Wonder but she also headlined at Radio City Music Hall in "Divas with Heart."

    Larry Marano, Getty Images

She was immortalized as the delicately beautiful Lara in the 1965 romance, "Dr. Zhivago," and in the nearly 45 years since, Julie Christie pictured here at the 2008 Academy Awards -- has clearly lost none of her allure. The It-girl of her generation, she's kept a lower profile in recent years, making only a handful of movies. She returned to the spotlight in 2005's "Away From Her," winning raves for her haunting portrait of a woman lost to Alzheimers, and in 2007, at 66, marrying for the first time.

Stella McCartney - "Being Called Sustainable is Not Sexy"

Stella McCartney has made headway as crusader against animal cruelty and maintains a vegan fashion line and lifestyle, but despite her penchant for organic fabrics, don't feel compelled to call her a sustainable designer. "It's not very sexy sounding, is it," she retorted recently at a Neiman Marcus shopping event in San Francisco when it was suggested that she is the face of sustainable luxury. "We've never shouted about it, and until recently no one has really mentioned it except for journalists. If anything, people would ridicule us when it came up!"

"That said, naturally I'm proud of it, because that's where fashion is going," she continued. "It's the most modern thing you can do. It's just the way I work – fashion isn't separate from the rest of your life. When we can do something that is environmentally conscious in the collection, then we do. If it looks like crap, then we don't do it."

Jessica Alba Lightens Up

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Hair Cut and Style

When the days start getting longer and tulips begin to bloom, we never fail to find ourselves in our stylist's chair begging for a brighter, blonder 'do. And we're not the only ones -- Jessica Alba was spotted out and about yesterday with seriously lighter locks.

We're happy to hear that the highlighted tresses are for her latest film, "The Killer Inside Me," because we think this babe is better as a brunette. But then again, Ms. Alba could spike her hair and dye it purple and look better than us at our very best.

What do you think?

Is Jessica Alba better as a blond or brunette?

Carmen Electra and the Art of Fame

carmen electraCarmen Electra could be the hardest-working woman in show business. And by show I mean "show up."
In her 15 years in the public eye she has passed through different stages of fame as if they were stations of the cross, from Prince protege (and luv-uh) in 1995 to Playboy model and MTV personality; she was Mrs Dennis Rodman for a year, had an affair with Tommy Lee (eww!) and possibly Joan Jett (yay!) and is currently engaged to former Korn touring guitarist Rob Patterson. Now she is a cheerful hired gun for everything from Taco Bell to Vitamin Water, whose vitaminwater10 launch she put some razzle-dazzle in Thursday night.

Top 3 Celeb Hairstyles for Summer - Tip of the Day!

kim kardashianWe were lucky enough to score an interview with some lovely ladies, Nikki and Riawna, from the Ken Paves Salon in Hollywood. Between the two of them, they have tons of experience, an amazing knowledge bank on the topic, and a crazy client list to boot (think Lindsay Lohan, Colin Farrell, and Eva Longoria). So I rolled what we got from these two into a week's worth of tips so you can look like you just walked out of the Ken Paves Salon.

As a fashion site, we're always looking to the runway for inspiration but we know that actually doing one of the over-the-top looks just never works. Working at a Hollywood hot spot like Ken Paves Salon, Nikki and Riawna say it's no different. While they look to the runway to keep up with trends for their A list clients, Nikki states the obvious, saying that the "runway doesn't cater to daily life." But the insight they did find on the SS09 catwalks is good news for us lazy hair people and blow dryer optional.

The styling team, who do extensions for Hollywood stars like Lindsay Lohan, say that extensions of wrongfully gotten a bad rap. So we're here to turn this extensions myth around once and for all.
