Woman jailed over short shorts

Do you dare wear short shorts? Kirstie Arnold does, and for that she's going to jail. Of course, Arnold also dares to get arrested for drugs, harassment and running over tombstones while driving through a cemetery, allegedly, but that is beside the point.

Five dresses - Striped stars

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

This week we brought you five fabulous variations of the striped dress - and not one of them will make you look like Marcel Marceu, proving that stripes are no longer the exclusive province of mimes and Galouises smokers.

Instead we showed that stripes can look traditionally nautical or futuristic chic, it all depends on the accessories. In case you haven't noticed, that is a continuing theme here - that you should never deny yourself the pleasure of expressing yourself via fashion because you thought that some trend or look was "only" worn by a certain type. We aim to show you variations (five, to be precise) of any given theme and prove to you that they can work for anyone. It all depends on what you want to show the world, and of course, where you're going.

Jennifer Aniston looks awesome after losing 170 lbs of idiot

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

The gossip rags are saying that the May-December romance of the century, Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer, is over. So soon? But they didn't even have a cute name yet!

Actually we are delighted for Jen, especially since People reports that she looks better than ever. John Mayer is such a tool, and he's had an insidious effect on the style of previous girlfriends, most notably Jessica Simpson.

Invest in a luxury fund?

Filed under: Stores We Love, Style in the News

Alcohol, guns, gambling and tobacco may be the go-to industries for investors looking for big returns. But if the idea of putting your money in big tobacco nags at your conscience, you can now invest big bucks in the luxury goods market.

The financial group Dominion has just launched the very first high-fashion and luxury investment fund called "Chic." Hoping to cash in on the name recognition of brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Stella McCartney, Chic following the rising tide of growth in the luxury goods market over the past few years.

A fashion fund strikes me as a great way to draw in new investors who would otherwise glaze over at even the mention of a financial group. However, knowing what I know about finance, which is basically nothing, it's hard for me to really weigh in on how Chic would perform in comparison to other funds. One thing I do know is that it's much smarter to invest in Marc Jacobs than a pair of Marc Jacobs shoes.

Stylefoul: the neck lanyard

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

Nerd chic has had its moments. Heavy-rimmed tortoise-shell glasses? Fine. The I-don't-iron-my -clothes crumpled look? Sure. The intentional cowlick? Maybe.

But nerd chic hits its outer limits when the neck lanyard is involved. An accoutrement for the Information Technology set, a lanyard allows you to actually remember your flashdrive when you finish working at your cubicle (rather than forgetting it and remembering it days later, as I do with my keys, phone, passport and other essentials that, when forgotten, result in total catastrophe).

But why is it that so many people insist on rocking the neck lanyard after-hours? How many times have I seen this on the Metro or at a happy hour? Is it that they've simply forgotten that it's around their necks? Or -- as I fear -- is a new, more potent strain of nerd chic preparing to strike?
