Go topless - it's your right!

Filed under: Style for a Cause

If, ahem, plus sized men can show their assets on the beach, then women should be able to do the same. GoTopless.org is "a US organization, claiming that women have the same constitutional right to be bare chested in public places as men."

News from the gossip front

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

What would the week be without a healthy dose of gossip about the fashion biz? Here are a few juicy details from Vogue UK that might have passed under your radar during the work week:

Brit It-Chick Peaches Geldof will be joining Kate Moss as one of the new celebrity designers for TopShop London. Geldof (who I've honestly never heard of before) will be creating her own line of teen jewelry. This is, of course, bad news for British parents who must be very worried that their teenage daughters will soon be taking cues from someone named "Peaches".

Cindy Crawford will be the new face of Remington (not the gun manufacturer -- it's the grooming appliance company).

Tyra Banks has been seeking man advice from an unlikely guru: poet Maya Angelou. The former poet-laureate suggested that should Tyra slow down and try to write poems about her ideal man. Poems, eh? Not match.com or eharmony.com? Well, it's worth a try right? Here's my own poem about my ideal man:

There once was a man named Clooney,
Whose face seemed to glow like the moony.
His pepper-grey hair and heart-melting stare
I confess, does make me quite loony.

Cindy Crawford tells the truth

Cosmetic surgery in the modeling industry, while ubiquitous, is not often talked about in the media. That's why it's a little surprising to see that supermodel Cindy Crawford has recently become forthright about her "cosmetic practices."

Sure, she would not have made it if she were not a natural beauty, but ever since she was 29, Cindy's been getting a little help from a friend -- her cosmetic surgeon. While she hasn't done anything drastic (face lift, eye lift, liposuction), Cindy admitted to the French Magazine Gala that she regularly receives collagen, vitamin and botox injections to maintain her skin's elasticity. But that's not to diminish the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Crawford insists that a simple routine of drinking plenty of water, eating healthy foods and exercising is the real "miracle" cure.

Portrait of the model as a mature woman

Remember that Diet Coke commercial with Cindy Crawford that came out a few years ago? If you do, you'll also remember how wonderful she looked in it -- all post-pregancy, out of the industry, I've gained some weight and started eating carbs again foxy? Cindy was as beautiful then as she was in 1993.

And she still looks amazing. But not all of the old supermodels have been treated quite so well by Father Time. This month, W Magazine has an editorial series featuring all of the old cover girls: Cheryl Tiegs, Pat Cleveland, Christy Turlington, and yes, Naomi Campbell. And some of them look good -- Shalom Harlow -- and some of them don't -- Rachel Hunter.

Personally, I love the idea of using old guard supermodels, but I have to say that I'm not a fan of Juergen Teller's strong lighting and white background. The harsh setting makes the photos look more like expensive mug shots than high-end editorial fashion photography. But who is asking me?
