Keeping your closet moth-free

When the seasons change, so does our wardrobe. And, unless you have a much bigger closet than we do, that means certain items get brought out while others get packed away for the next few months.

While some of those items might be easily folded up and put into Rubbermaid bins, but other items have more specific requirements. The formal gown you wore for your best friend's wedding, your silky summer dresses, the flowery pashmina you pulled out for those cool summer nights ... for some, the list goes on and on.

Beyonce's million dollar wig collection

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Hair Cut and Style

Beyonce pretty much always looks like a million bucks, and her engagement ring is reported to be worth about five million bucks, so we're not all that surprised to hear that B has a climate-controlled closet filled with about a million dollars' worth of high-end hair.

Some of her wigs are worth over $10,000 on their own due to the fact that most are custom made from real hair. And, you know, it's probably a good investment for Beyonce -- she changes her 'do practically daily, and it's surely a whole lot easier to take a new wig out of her closet than have to see a hairstylist and have a brand new look created.

Clay Aiken is gay! Act surprised!

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Surprise!
Ladies and Gentlemen, we proudly introduce: Gay Claiken!

According to Clay's exclusive interview in People Magazine, it was becoming a father that inspired him to come out of the plexiglass closet:

"I cannot raise a child to lie or hide things."

Good for you, Clay. We're all going to act surprised for a minute and we're all going to show our support, but then we have stuff to do, mmkay?

We do not mean to undermine anyone's individual personal struggle, but this is like when Elton John came out except...well, now we live in a world where Elton John came out a hecka long time ago.

And what about the baby mama? Jaymes Foster executive produced Aiken's last three albums, four if you count the baby, Parker Foster Aiken. Was she at all confused by this news? According to The Associated Press, Clay came out to his family four years ago. What gives? The Next Best Thing, anyone?

Well, if that's the case, we think that's sorta sweet. Congratulations, Clay and family!

7 ways to spruce up your wardrobe on a budget

All of us have days on which we stare into our closet in the same way we stare into our refrigerator, clinging to the hope that, if we just stare long and hard enough, a Snickers bar and a bottle of good champagne will magically appear. And while that trick has yet to work for the candy and booze, there are some nearly magical ways to feel like you have a whole new wardrobe without spending a fortune.

Plus, while you're out picking up these items, you can grab yourself a Snickers. It's a win/win, people.

Sarah James of The Working Closet came up with seven items you can snag for (mostly) under $40 that are sure to spruce up your wardrobe. And, what's great about her choices is that many of them can be worn with both office attire and casual wear, so you're not only getting a great deal, but also a great deal of use out of what you bought. Now that's what we call a bargain!

5 ways to attack your closet with the power of Feng Shui

Filed under: Haute Home, Accessories, Clothing, Shoes

Cleaning out your nightmarishly unorganized closet may not be at the top of your list of things to do with your Saturday, but a tidy storage space for your wardrobe can supposedly change your life -- at least that's if you believe in the eastern art of Feng Shui. Even if you don't subscribe to any superstitions that say cleansing your house will improve your existence, most of us can at least appreciate the aesthetics and functionality of a well-organized closet.

There are a bajillion products out there which claim to make the storage of your earthly junk more accessible, so how do you know which ones will lead you toward enlightenment? Rather than test out all the closet organizers on the market, you might find it easier to just apply these simple concepts to your closet and go from there.

Resolutions to Reality: Organize closet with better hangers

Filed under: Stores We Love, Steals and Deals, Product Reviews

Ultra Slim Black Flocked Hangers I am not usually one for resolutions but the time I have been spending in suburbia has inspired me to make a few. First one is to manage my money better (that's not going to be easy) and second is to organize my closet. Now that, I can handle.

In order to keep my second resolution I will have to break my first resolution by spending some money at The Container Store, Bed Bath and Beyond and probably a few other places too. I am hoping that organizing my closet will help me actually see how much stuff I have that way I will stop buying so much. Of course my plan could totally backfire and I may end up seeing that I have room for more stuff -- it's a risk I am willing to take.

The first step I plan on taking in my closet organization resolution is to buy new hangers. I found these great ultra slim hangers at suburban super-store, Bed Bath and Beyond. I used my Mother as a test subject and got her 2 packs of 10 hangers. The hangers are great, your clothes don't slip and the slim design takes up less space in your closet.

Get a pack of 10 hangers (choose from a variety of colors) for $9.99 or get a pack of 50 hangers for $39.99 at Bed Bath and Beyond.

So, what's in your closet?

Hey, folks, just wanted to tell you about a new Styledash group over at YouTube. It's called "What's in my Closet?", and we're asking everyone to make and submit videos about that special little place that your clothes call home. And if you've got a really great closet -- or for that matter, a really bad closet, you might just find your way onto this site.
