Why aren't you wearing this? Cream Ribbon Triple Headband

Filed under: Accessories, Hair Care, Daily Obsession, Must Haves

You know what we love? A sleek, shiny, preppy ribbon holding back our hair. But, do you know what we hate? The fact that ribbons never stay in place in our hair! Especially if we try to put multiple ribbons in there -- forget it.

However, with the right headband, we might still be able to get the look our locks long for.

Why aren't you wearing this? Skinny Silk Wrapped Headband

When you're looking for a little something to add to your 'do, you don't always want something big and bulky, and something bright and bold might not work with the rest of your outfit. But you still need a little something -- a little color or texture or bling.

We think this Cara Accessories Skinny Silk Wrapped Headband, available at Nordstrom for $44, is perfect for that. There is some fun color and texture there, so it can give your look a lift, but it's not so attention-grabbing that it really needs to match what you're wearing.

Dog-shaped hair: freaky or fashionable?

We've seen some interesting and unfortunate hairstyle trends over the years. The mullet, the mowhawk, and the mountain-high hair preferred by loud, crazy women from Dallas all immediately spring to mind. But those fashion fouls pale in comparison to the newest potential fad: dog-shaped hair.

To cut or not to cut: Some (not so) big bang theories for your hair

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style

According to StyleList, bangs continue to be a hot trend, but how do you know if they're right for you? You could, of course, try out some fake bangs to get the look. But, if that's not for you, there are a few bang facts you need to know before you make the cut -- remember, it takes FOREVER to grow them out.

The main things to take into account before cutting bangs are your hair type, face shape, and the amount of effort you're willing to put into it.

What's your best secret for thick, shiny hair?

The Stylelist post about hair myths and truths got us thinking about our favorite hair gear.

Their expert sort of, um, debunked volumizing shampoos, but we love thickening products. In fact, three of our top five faves are thickening related!

They also said that a blow out is vital for high volume, and this combined dryer/round brush is another big favorite.

Now it's your turn. What are your cherished hair beautifiers? Best products, styling tools, techniques? Don't be shy, come on and share!

We can't wait to hear from you!

Blonds: Is it time you changed your look?

Used to be, that if you wanted to look really hot -- at least in a Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition kinda way -- you needed blond hair. It makes sense. After all, some (admittedly dubious) studies have suggested that blonds look younger, and men around the world have been lusting after fair-haired bombshells for decades.

But it seems times are changing. With news that (fake) blonds are more likely to develop lymphoma, and billionaires are overwhelmingly more interested in marrying brunettes, there's plenty of reason to doubt the dye job you might have considered a few years ago.

Plus, it's all too easy for an attempt at creative hair coloring to look lame and/or incredibly tacky -- as even celebrities like Jessica Simpson can't keep from going some creepy-looking shade of orange.

So is it better to work with what you've got? Or is there still a part of you that can't resist letting a colorist go to town on your coiffure? In a new poll released today, the ladies at StyleList pursue this pressing question: Two-toned hair -- love it or hate it? Head on over to vote.

Billionaires marry brunettes more than blonds

Maybe blonds have more fun. But when you're tanning on the yacht, drinking daiquiris, and getting pedicures from Marco -- the hot pool boy, who lives to satisfy your every need -- chances are you won't care. That's because, at least according to dating experts, you, the brunette, are far more likely to land a man who can lavish you with absurd sums of money than your blond counterpart.

Which brunettes scored billionaire hubbies?

In fact, 62% of billionaires have married (or are in long-term relationships with) brunettes, while only 22% chose more fair-haired companions. Women with black hair reeled in a measly 16% of the world's wealthiest bachelors, while redheads barely made the list.

Would you change your hair color to score a man with cash?

LiLo: Blond or Brunette?

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style

Hey look -- Lindsay Lohan has blond hair again! I'm sure you're aware that the 21-year-old super-drunk has been down this road before, but there's never been any real public consensus on how LiLo should be coloring her coiffure. So what do you think: blond or brunette? Check out the photos and then take the poll below.

NFL may force players to cut their hair

Now that ESPN is going fashion-forward, and NBA players are showing up on Vogue covers, I suppose this was only a matter of time. The National Football League, an institution that has never, ever cared at all about fashion, is considering outlawing long hair on the field.

This is good move, because some of these guys are in serious need of a trim. Long, scraggly locks are only cool for 1990s Metallica fans and characters in romance novels -- not for guys who make untold millions of dollars and are worshipped by men everywhere.

As you might suspect, this doesn't really have anything to do with fashion, and is intended more as a safety measure. Players who let their man-manes hang out are more likely to have their hair pulled while being tackled, and that hurts -- a lot. In fact, if the rule is passed, players won't even be required to cut their hair -- which, for obvious reasons, is unfortunate.

Britney acts crazy at LA boutique, buys yellow wig (that wasn't for sale)

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style

Oh, if only we all had the gumption to waltz into ridiculously-priced LA boutiques, make demands, and then storm out with stuff that was never for sale in the first place.

And so goes the latest story in the saga of Britney Spears. The former pop star turned mothering disaster recently decided she needed to have a copy of her favorite Dolce and Gabbana dress -- now. So she strolled into the Betsey Johnson boutique on Melrose Ave with the dress in hand, and proceeded to ask the store manager to make her a copy she'd be able to wear that evening.

The staff tried to explain to Britney that she was asking for the impossible -- but instead of coming to her senses, apologizing, and walking out like a normal person, Spears then decided that she wanted to buy a yellow wig off one of the store mannequins. It wasn't for sale -- which, again, was explained to the celebri-psycho -- but the manager finally relented and sold Britney the fake coiffure for $100 (probably just to make her go away).

Bad news: Britney Spears is still totally nuts. Good news: we'll probably get to see her in a bright yellow wig, which will be hysterical.

Hannah Montana now sings, acts, washes your hair

Filed under: Cosmetics, Celebrities with Style

Just when you thought Miley Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana) had officially taken over the planet, and there was no escape from the incessant stream of songs, movies and TV shows featuring the teenage uber-star -- now there's yet another way the pint-size pop tart is worming her way into your life. Introducing Hannah Montana hair care.

Granted, you probably won't be using this. Just like the rest of the Montana empire, these 8-oz bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and "glitter spritz spray" are targeted at kids. Lotta Luv, the company behind the move, say they'll be shipping out hoards of the stuff come summer -- just in time for all the girls to make their parents buy it amidst the flurry of back-to-school shopping.

And parents, rest assured, your children will be asking for it. Unless you've been ignoring your daughter for the last year or two, you're undoubtedly aware that Hannah Montana is the number one ranked cable show for kids ages 6 to 14, her concerts sell out in minutes and she was one of Billboard's top 20 selling artists of 2007. Plus, stores like Wal-Mart will be displaying the new hair care products in Hannah Montana "boutiques" -- complete with clothing, bedding, toys and shoes.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

What would you look like with Hillary Clinton's hair?

Are you the kind of person who brings photos of celebrities' hot new haircuts to your stylist? As you've probably experienced, the problem with this method of crafting your coiffure is that you never know how that hair style will look on you. Wouldn't it be nice if you could test drive your new look before committing to it for the next couple months?

Thanks to the wonderful Interwebs, now you can. Introducing HairMixer.com -- a site that allows you to upload photos of yourself, and then mix then with photos of famous people to see what their hair would like on your head. Amazing, right?

And then you can mix together different celebrity images -- just to see how Will Smith might look with Hillary Clinton's hair (for instance).

The photo at right is what I would look like with Will Smith's hair. Probably not the best choice for me.

Fashion disaster: Woman leaves stylist with chemical burns on her scalp

So here we are, on the brink of a brand new year -- what better time to try a new look? That's what Kareim Ugarte was thinking when she stopped into her local salon, and asked to have her hair color changed from brown to blond.

Only that's not what happened. Instead of the blond locks she was after, Ugarte wound up looking like a junior high kid with a bad bleach job, complete with an orange and yellow coiffure. Oh, the humanity! But what's worse, way worse, is that she also wound up in the emergency room -- with chemical burns.

Ugarte told a local reporter that "It was with blisters and a lot of liquid coming out of the areas," which probably looked about as gross as it sounds.

The culprit was a JC Penney's Styling Salon -- who not only injured their customer (allegedly), but then charged her $150.

I smell a lawsuit.

Your stylist might be hair-spying on you

Stylists tend to be chatty people, so before you know it, you're talking about the latest celebrity gossip, your love life, or the black market business you've established selling illegal firearms to South American rebel groups.

But while it might seem OK to share this potentially incriminating information with the man or woman shaping your finely-groomed coiffure, be careful. This new blow dryer/spy camera makes it easy for your stylist to record your tales of nefarious activity, and report to the authorities.

The seemingly innocuous little gadget comes complete with a 3.7mm wide angle lens, a 2.4 GHz receiver, and even a x-ray vision that lets you beam images up to 1500 ft -- making it easy to document your every transgression.

However, it should be fairly easy to tell if the person cutting your hair has a side gig with the CIA -- namely, because they'll be using a hair dryer that doesn't actually dry your hair. That, despite appearances, is the one thing this super-duper spy cam isn't capable of.
