Looking for a gift for that nostalgic ex-hippie in your life? For decades now, VW has enjoyed a cult-like dedication from hippies, hipsters, and young urban professional types. Handmade jewelry from Lila Ruby King

handmade jewelry - ring with lampwork bead by Lila Ruby KingWe've got to admit, we're ultra envious of the talent of Australian-born jewelry designer and printmaker Anna Ruby King. Anna, who now resides in Athens, Greece, creates not only gorgeous lampwork beads and handmade jewelry, but she's also a talented printmaker and illustrator. And did we mention she's also eco-friendly? All of her handmade cards are made with recycled cardstock, and she's working towards making her tiny enterprise completely carbon neutral.

Arm Architecture - Because style has a plan

We don't know about you, but many of the men in our lives aren't big fans of wearing jewelry, which is a downer when big events, like milestone birthdays or anniversaries come around and we want to buy them something really special. However, if the guy in question is into fashion with a little edge, we might have found just the thing for him -- Arm Architecture.

Arm Architecture is new and hot in the world of cufflinks. The designs are hip, modern, and most of all, unique. Oh, and pricey -- they start at $695 a pair, but considering women are gifted goodies like diamonds and pearls, this is basically a drop in the bucket, right?

Guess goes upscale with new Black Label collection

Filed under: Style in the News, Men

Guess by Marciano is gearing up to launch a fancy new collection of tailored menswear called Black Label that will literally up the ante for consumers this September. Looking to follow the example set by Banana Republic's Monogram and J. Crew Collection, Guess is taking a shot at the luxury market -- since the mid-priced market seems to be in a slump.

For whatever reason, Guess is only targeting men with it's expensive new duds. Black Label's price point is set 30-40% above the regular Guess lineup. The collection will consist of stylish suits, vests, woven dress shirts and accessories -- cotton shirts start at $79, 100% wool suit pieces range from $128-$228. Apparently, cuff links are central to the whole upscale theme, since every shirt in the collection has French cuffs. We're not sure if we think that's cool, or just a little bit over the top.

Steampunk jewelry by Rivkasmom blends the future and the past

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Men, Daily Obsession

Steampunk is a counter-intuitive sci-fi concept. It's about the future, but set in the past, usually Victorian era England. The technology is pre-digital and steam-powered, but it's also quite modern and computer-driven. Analog computers, that is, that float over cities on dirigibles. See? Confusing. Let's stick to the aesthetics of it.

If you enjoyed the look of City of Lost Children, Van Helsing, Howl's Moving Castle or Lemony Snicket, then you like steampunk. One of the most distinctive visual characteristics is a quasi-Victorian mechanism, with lots of polished brass and clockworks.

Interested? Well, before you pull out the superglue and renovate your laptop, start by decorating yourself with some mechanically beautiful necklaces, cufflinks, earrings and brooches from Rivkasmom on Etsy. They really capture the essence of steampunk, with clocks, trains, balloons, and so much shiny brass! The items are all handmade, original designs, and one of a kind, so if you see something you like in the gallery, rush over to Etsy before some steampunk beats you to it!
