Bambi isn't just for kids anymore

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style

betsey johnson bambi dress Betsey Johnson's "Bambi" dress has been selling out in all of her boutiques and is on the backs of many celebrities like Howard Stern's girlfriend, Beth Ostrosky, and music legend Cyndi Lauper. I was lucky enough to get my hands on this hot little number as well and let me tell you something ... It's fabulous.

Like many of Betsey Johnson's designs, they transcend times and seasons. When you own a Betsey dress you can rest assure that it will never go out of style. The Bambi mini dress can be worn as is or paired it with black tights or leggings.

I turn to this dress when I want to look hot when I am feeling less than hot. The plunging V neck creates a nice slimming line, plus showing off the "girls" is never a bad thing. The flutter sleeves make a huge statement and cover up your arms if you haven't done push-ups in a while. The empire waist line is cut in a way so you can order the pasta but it isn't so dramatic that it makes you look like you are carrying twins.

All in all a perfect dress; if you head into Betsey Johnson you will find this dress in solid colors and in plaid. You might even luck out and find one on sale.

American Apparel gets all shiny

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Swimwear and Lingerie

Remember the '80s? I'm not talking about the '80s of Huey Lewis and the News. I'm not talking about the '80s of Cyndi Lauper. I'm not talking about the 1980s of "We Are The World", the US invasion of Grenada or the Falklands War.

I'm talking stirrup pants, people.

Suddenly American Apparel is partying like it's 1989 with this stirrup pant. And get this: it's shiny. So not only is AA giving us a blast from the past, they're giving us a flash from the past.

Remember When: fat shoelaces

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Vintage and Retro

Some things were just meant to be together:
  • June Carter and Johnny Cash
  • Champagne and strawberries
  • Popping and locking
...and Chuck Taylors and fat laces.

Back in the day, this was how all the cool kids rolled. I had a pair of white Chucks with some neon green laces that were at least an inch wide. And yes, my lacing style could be conservatively called "double helix."

I make no apologies. It was what you had to do.

What happened to them? In general, I think the fat shoelace/Chuck Taylor thing went the way of Cyndi Lauper. As for my own Chuck Taylor/shoelace combo, the white hi-tops turned a dingy shade of grey pretty quickly, but the laces are still holding strong.
