Get the Look - Steal Glam Ideas from Cynthia Rowley

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week, Get the Look

The Cynthia Rowley show on February 16, 2009 at The Jane Hotel was glamorous and fun. That's Cynthia herself, bending down to blow out the fireplace at the end of the presentation. We spotted Tatum O'Neal and Julia Stiles, but were most impressed by the fabulous Fall 2009 collection! We put together a gallery of great ideas you can steal (and create with stuff you may already have in your closet) from the Cynthia Rowley Show.

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Backstage Beauty at Cynthia Rowley - Charlie Price for Rusk

HAIR
: Charlie Prince for Rusk
BEAUTY SNAPSHOT: "Last night's hair." Price created a 1930's Berlin look complete with fingerwaves, but made it imperfect, like maybe it was still up from the night before. He wanted the hair to look like they'd done it themselves, and he told us how we could do it ourselves.

Julia Stiles in Cynthia Rowley - I Want That!

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

Julia StilesCheck it out! Remember this gal? Julia Stiles? Definitely a blast from our 10 Things I Hate About You (Heath!) loving past. And after seeing her at the Tribeca Film Festival, we still dig her adorable, totally New York sense of style.

Debra Davenport's Spring 2009 collection at Los Angeles Fashion Week

Debra Davenport's Spring 2009 collection, shown during L.A. Fashion Week, was exceedingly wearable. It was also a bit scattered. Davenport took cues from Cynthia Rowley and Nanette Lepore, featuring floral, citrus and vibrant green fabrics. But the through line was lost somewhere between 1950s Euro chic and lady pirate.

Project Runway guest judges revealed!

Filed under: Style in the News

Yes, boy and girls. Project Runway makes its triumphant return back to television this Wednesday night. Everyone: Yay!

While we'll all have to wait patiantly each week to see what kind of crazy shenanigans our beloved contestants will find themselves in this cycle, the people over at Bravo have already spilled the beans as to who is guest judging this season.

Cynthia Rowley, LL Cool J, RuPaul, Rachel Zoe, Francisco Costa, Brooke Shields, Diane Von Furstenberg, Sandra Bernhard, Apolo Ohno will all ham it up with Michael Kors, Heidi Klum, and Nina Garcia this season.

We imagine Francisco will teach the PYT about chic minimalistic design and Rachel Zoe will emphasize the importance of berry-colored nail polish and over-sized sunglasses. But who we really want to hear from is RuPaul. The episode that features him is going to be all sorts of fabulous and over-the-top, no? We can't wait!

Why aren't you wearing this? Cynthia Rowley Floppy Hat

We don't know about you, but right now, we're getting hit with some serious humidity. Not the kind of humidity that, with a bit of mousse, gives our hair volume -- the kind of humidity that makes us feel like we're stepping into a sauna every time we go outside.

When we have to spend a bit of time outdoors in the summer, we like to safeguard our hair. Sometimes, that means product. Sometimes, it means a headband. For the really humid days, though, we've got to go with a hat.

Cynthia Rowley for Avon

Filed under: Style in the News, Cosmetics

Cynthia Rowley for Avon brush setFashion designer Cynthia Rowley has made, and is making, her rounds in the design world. From fashion/ accessories to interior design for Target, she is now playing in the cosmetics world with Avon.

Avon's co-branded collection with Cynthia Rowley will be limited edition, with products like a brush set, lipsticks, gloss, and nail enamel. The collection will also be supported with an ad campaign which will appear in Vogue.

Avon, which was once exclusive to crazy old ladies and soccer moms, is now catering to a younger bunch with a partnership with the likes of Rowley. Apparently, it's paying off. From a press release on the collection:

"[Avon] plans to increase its media outlay this year by a significant 35%, to $340 million. Avon's total media spend last year was $249 million, up a whopping 83% from 2005. The company's creative is handled in-house, and the planned increase in advertising is intended to directly improve sales."

Go Avon! Even though the thought of a $15 brush set gives me the willies, this set is rather cute and would make an awesome gift to teens and tweens who are just starting to play with make up.

Cynthia Rowley wants to make designer diapers

Filed under: Style in the News, Kids and Babies

baby in diapersWe know that you can make a killing in designer baby wear. Aside from the additional little hoop you have to jump through for stricter standards on fabrics (like, they should pretty much extinguish a fire), you can make teeny tiny clothes and charge an arm and a leg.

Strangely, Cynthia Rowley wants to get into designer baby duds, but not clothing. Not shoes. Not even all the little "doo dads" (I do not have a child so I have no idea what they are called) that Mommies need to take care of babies, like pacifier straps. Cynthia Rowley wants to make designer disposable diapers that are made to look like little designer jeans and lace underwear.

Um, okay. Like expensive designer clothes weren't already a waste; now we can put gobs of money into something we poop on and throw away.

We don't do Dirty Dishes

cunthia rowley dinnerwareDirty dishes? Are you kidding? Not after this $20 manicure!

Not to worry, these are Dirty Dishes, a line of dishware from designer Cynthia Rowley made exclusively for New York dishware boutique Fishs Eddy. Why Dirty? The designs are slightly naughty - watercolor-esque lingerie-clad ladies lounging around the perimeter of dinner plates, bowls, cups, and saucers. The Dirty Dishes, priced from $14.95 for a cup and saucer to $22 for a large dinner plate, are available online at both Fishs Eddy and the Cynthia Rowley website.

Sometimes, it's okay to have Dirty Dishes.
