Rachel Zoe, we love you so.

Rachel Zoe in pigeon toeThis week on The Rachel Zoe Project, Rachel is in New York at Fashion Week and Mean First Assistant Taylor has to go home to an important appointment (we can only assume this is some kind of assault-related court date). Rachel is left with only Brad, Second Assistant.

Brad pulls a total Anne Hathaway from The Devil Wears Prada and comes through (and in an adorable inside-out "Hug Me" sweater!) with a whole slew of press tour looks for "Kate" (we think Kate Hudson).

Back in LA, Mean First Assistant Taylor pulls a Whitney from The Hills and invites her best friend Ashley to help her (we assume this is for while she's in court). Nothing happens. Just like The Hills.

Zoe quote of the night, regarding the Oscar de la Renta show: "Each gown was better than the next."

...All right, we know what you mean, okay. Bananas!

Sex and the City designer Patricia Fields styles your wardrobe

Be honest: Do you ever really get sick of playing the "Which Sex And The City Woman Am I?" game? I used to be mostly Carrie, with a healthy dose of Charlotte and a nice dash of Samantha thrown in for spice. Now that I'm married, I'd say there's been an in increase in the Charlotte factor. I could go on...and I suspect that you could too.

Luckily, the mastermind behind the women's astonishing, character-defining fashions for the SATC series and the movie (as well as The Devil Wears Prada and many other hits), Patricia Field, has brought that level of chicness off the screen and, possibly, into your closet. And I got to meet with her! Now, I ask you: what does one wear for something like that? Answer: A Corey Lynn Calter "painted" blue dress. She liked it. It will now be in heavy rotation.

In a super short mini dress that showed off her flawless legs, Field was so nice and very thoughtful about her new one-off collection, Destination Style New York for HSN (buy items from this collection here). It's comprised of 50 pieces, and yes, each one evokes one of the characters. So if you're feeling a little bit more Miranda-esque today, no problem. The average price is -- get this -- only $75. And pieces come in sizes 2-16.

So what does Fields think is coming up next in the world of fashion? "Things are going to get sleeker, like Halston-era '70s with lots of solid color jerseys," she said (as I mentally prepared my next shopping must-haves).

Also: "Accessories, like gloves and hats, and leg adornments of all kinds. Things we haven't ever seen." She added: "Everything's getting simpler, so it's the person you see, not the embellishments on their clothes." Nice!

And what trend does she think is O-V-E-R? "Statement necklaces." From the lips of the Goddess of Style straight to your ears, you heard it here first.

Vogue's editor-in-chief to hit the big screen

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Soon, you'll get to see what Anna Wintour, the icy editor-in-chief at Vogue magazine, is really like. As reported by Variety.com, A&E IndieFilms is putting together a documentary of Wintour at work, more specifically the work she did to create the September issue of Vogue, which is the so-called annual "fashion bible."

With the success of the recent film "The Devil Wears Prada," -- which was reportedly based on Wintour -- the company thinks this documentary will be well-received. A&E IndieFilms says the documentary will be "a very candid and very exclusive window into this iconoclast, her fame and her notoriety."

If Wintour is as cold and insincere as Anne says, then I think this documentary won't try to hide it. And she may not be the friendliest person on earth, but she's proven that she can run a successful magazine. I'm also interested to see how a huge magazine like Vogue comes together from start to finish.

The one catch? The film isn't set to debut until 2008.

The devil needs a new assistant

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Rumor has it that the original boss from hell is currently looking for a new assistant. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour's kick-down mentality was famously captured through the character of Miranda Priestly in the best-selling book-turned-hit-movie, The Devil Wears Prada.

If you're interested in becoming the next Lauren Weisberger (former assistant), or perhaps the next Anna Wintour, now is probably the time to get in touch with the folks at Conde Nast. Just don't say we didn't warned you...

The Devil might wear Prada on TV

Filed under: Style in the News

the devil wears pradaWith fashion the focus of so many TV shows these days, both reality TV like America's Next Top Model and Project Runway and sit-coms like Ugly Betty, it seems like a good idea to take advantage and join right in.

And while shows about fashion aren't necessarily the most viewed in the bigger picture in TV-land, Fox Broadcasting announced it is currently developing Lauren Weisberger's novel and now movie, The Devil Wears Prada into a half-hour comedy. If all goes well, it will debut next year. The reason for moving toward shows about the fashion world? Advertisers realize that the target audience segment, women aged 18-49, handle the pursestrings in the family, and are willing to pay top dollar for advertising spots.

So that's all well and good. The bigger question is...who will they get to play the characters?

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

Filed under: Style in the News, Cosmetics, Fragrance

Let's face it, books and movies relating to the fashion and beauty industry are typically artistic light-weights. The Devil Wears Prada was a great film with cool clothes and strong acting, but arty and trenchant, it was not.

The exception to the rule about fashion/beauty inspired art is Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Originally a novel by the German writer Patrick Süskind, Perfume (the film) tells the story of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, a young man who was born without a scent. (In France, having no smell is a pretty big deal.) Despite his own scent-neutralness, Jean-Baptiste develops an extremely acute sense of smell that literally drives him to madness in what becomes the quest to create the world's most perfect perfume.

I don't know much about the film adaptation, but I read the novel in what felt like an afternoon. Trust me, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is not The Devil Wears Prada, but I think that's part of the appeal.

The hard-knock life of Anna Wintour

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

If you saw the film, The Devil Wears Prada, you probably have a hard time mustering sympathy for Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Wintour, for whom the character of Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) was based, is known for her intimidating presence and her icy demeanor.

But not everything is so easy for poor Anna. For years, she has been the constant target of animal groups who oppose her use of fur in the fashion spreads on the pages of Vogue. To add to the antagonism with the animal rights movement, Wintour refuses to run advertisements paid for by anti-fur groups. As a result, she's been attacked so many times that she's "lost count." In Paris last year, she was hit by a bag of bloody matter, and later, outside the Dolce & Gabbana show, she was nailed with a pie pan full of flour. Still, through all of these assaults, Wintour remains staunchly committed to defending the use of fur in fashion. I guess this goes to show you that even in fashion, principle can be a costly thing.
