Aubrey O'Day is too slutty for Danity Kane

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

We've written more than we ever wanted about Aubrey O'Day -- not much of it has been flattering. She makes some heeeeedious fashion decisions, and apparently, some pretty bad career decisions, too. Her trampy behavior has gotten her kicked out of the group that made her semi-famous, Danity Kane.

Sean Combs - I Am King

Filed under: Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

Whether you love him or not, Sean (Diddy? Puffy?) Combs knows a thing or two about fashion. He's celebrating the 10th anniversary of Sean Jean and has a ridiculously successful fragrance on the market in Unforgivable for Men. He's now releasing another men's fragrance, called I Am King.

Further adventures in Diddy t-shirts

Filed under: Clothing, Men, Celebrities with Style

Hey! Remember that one time Diddy made a t-shirt about the 2004 election? And it had a witty catchphrase on it? Boy, I sure do!

Well, the man, the myth, nay -- THE LEGEND has come up with a brand new shirt (using, oddly enough, the same font) with a brand new catchphrase!

Ladies and Gentlemen.....No Bitchassness. Say it loud and proud -- you are bitchassness free! You will have none! If you see bitchassness in the street, you will let it lie.

Other possible suggestions for Diddy t-shirt catchphrases:
  • Vote or Be Bitchassed
  • I am against your penchant for bitchassness
  • Please refrain from either bitching or assing
  • Bitchass says RELAX!
I'm surprised, with the nascence of his two young daughters, that this slogan isn't available on a romper.

I'm not even sure what this means. Besides Diddy having entirely too much money to blow on t-shirt manufacturing, obviously. But really, when you get down to it, my only question is....why don't I have this shirt!?

BET's Rip the Runway

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News

BET's third annual Rip the Runway premiered last Tuesday. And it was amazing.

Diddy opened the show by defining fashion, specifically black fashion, saying, "It's not just the clothes; it's the lifestyle; it's the swagger ... Urban fashion is at the forefront of style around the world." BET's tagline for Rip the Runway is "black fashion," but that's really just a label, like preppy or geek chic. The fashions were about attitude and confidence -- traits that aren't bound by skin color.

Collections by Missy Elliott, Zac Posen, Snoop Dogg (and Mrs. Dogg), Nelly, Diddy, and more were showcased by models who truly strutted their stuff down the runway, dancing to performances by artists like N.E.R.D., Flo Rida and T-Pain.

Be sure to check out the galleries from the show. I'm telling you, if I had my choice of runways to watch (or walk -- you hear that, Nelly?), this would be it. The music, the attitude, the passion evident in everyone from the designers to the models to the performers ... it was just fabulous. If you missed it, you can still watch the entire show on BET's website and go through the rest of Styledash's coverage of Rip the Runway.

BET's Rip the Runway: The men

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Men, Celebrities with Style

Menswear at Rip the Runway was showcased in just two collections, but those two collections were miles apart:

Rich & Infamous is Snoop Dogg's brand spankin' new line, is about a lifestyle, not a look (the Doggfather's words, not mine), and it was very much what you'd expect from the rapper -- laid back but still full of attitude. It consisted of tees, sweats and casual jackets, and is primed to be hot urban street wear this year. Oh, also, Snoop performed while Rich & Infamous and CoCoRi (his wife's line for the ladies) showed, and his ring was bigger than his hand. Of course.

Sean John, by Diddy, has been a go-to brand for urban fashion for several years now, and it's no wonder -- I mean, look at how the man dresses! Who wouldn't some of that for himself? Anyway, Sean John was shown to the music of Diddy's Making the Band winner Day 26. That man is always promoting. There was nice use of light, summery colors, and the men heated things up by showing off six packs that would send Usher back to the gym for an extra workout. The styles ranged from an impeccable three piece suit and red carpet-worthy gray tux to casual plaid shorts and tees.

Be sure to check out the gallery of these designs and others from Rip the Runway!

Diddy vs. Mariah, perfume challenge '07

Filed under: Style in the News, Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

diddy vs mariahWho doesn't love a celebrity feud, especially one that is totally pointless? Hip-hop star Diddy (P. Diddy, Puff Daddy ... whatever) is challenging fellow musician Mariah Carey to a perfume challenge.

"I send out a challenge...I challenge all of my female counterparts that have fragrances...that my fragrance is better than theirs. I'm a man and I know how women should smell!" – Diddy

Sounds to me like he is challenging every bottle of perfume on the market, not just Mariah. Well, Mariah took it personally (read: needed publicity) and issued the following response:

"I heard about this competition, and I wish Puff all the best with his new fragrance, but I think we're actually appealing to different types of women. M by Mariah Carey is about being unforgettable, not unforgivable. It's not about a ménage à trois or a one night stand, it's for the woman who wants the man to fall in love with her immediately, stay in love, and treat her like royalty." – Mariah

Ah yes, perfume that makes a man fall in love with you – yeah Mariah that is what we are looking for. I think both Diddy and Mariah will fail miserably. I don't want to smell like a rap video and I certainly don't want to smell like a crazy person who can't dress. I will stick to my L.A.M.B perfume by Gwen Stefani. Now that is a fragrance.

Diddy's diamonds called to court!

Filed under: Accessories, Celebrities with Style

Sean "Diddy" Combs is many things, but tactful is not one of them. Take for instance Diddy's post-Oscar party brawl with a man named with Gerard Rechnitzer. Not very tactful, was it?

The victim sure didn't think so. Rechnitzer filed assault and battery charges against the rapper back in March. So far, he's been unable to produce evidence of the crime, but all of that might change now that Rechnitzer's lawyer has requested photographs of the rings Diddy wore on the night in question.

The motion filed in Los Angeles Superior Court stated Rechnitzer's position: "Needless to say, Combs does not wear simple rings. The rings he wore when he struck [Rechnitzer] are important and critical to the biomechanics of this case."

Are we talking about bling-shaped bruises? Or maybe pear-cut diamond slashes?

All I know is that this is starting to sound a lot like a bad episode of CSI Miami.

Diddy's white party

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Celebrities with Style

Over the weekend, Sean "Diddy" Combs hosted the annual White Party at his home in East Hampton. The high-profile soiree courted the likes of Ashley Olsen, Mariah Carey, Star Jones and Busta Rhymes, who were all willing to forgo the freedom of fashion to comply with Diddy's strict you-must-wear-white dress code.

According to an AP report, Diddy was both pleased and proud of the event's success, saying, "This party is up there with the top three that I've thrown," Combs said. "It's a party that has legendary status. It's hard to throw a party that lives up to its legend."

True to form, Diddy did refuse entry to a handful of guests including Katie Lee (Billy Joel's wife), who foolishly chose to ignore the white dress code by wearing cream. A stupid move on her party, since when it comes to the White Party, Diddy gets his cake and eats it too, assuming that is, that said cake is white.

Naomi and Diddy rumble

Filed under: Runway Trends, Celebrities with Style

Amid the red carpet hoopla of the Grammy awards, I somehow managed to miss a very juicy tidbit about the supermodel I love to hate (Campbell) and the rapper I love to mock (Diddy). Apparently Diddy angrily confronted Naomi Campbell at an after-party thrown by Jermaine Dupri. Witnesses say that when Naomi arrived at the party with actor Terrence Howard, Diddy started screaming at the model right as she walked through the door.

The New York Daily News suggests the tiff was the result of lingering bad blood between the rapper and the model. Diddy and Naomi used to have a flirtatious friendship, but once the rapper shacked up with his current wife, Kim Porter, the relationship came to a screeching halt.

While I don't pretend to know the details of the exchange, the outburst from Diddy seems extremely out of proportion. I mean, if he doesn't like Naomi, he should just join the club, not lose his cool at a Grammy after-party. Of course, expecting responsible behavior from a man who has called himself "Diddy", "P. Diddy", "Puffy" and "Puff Daddy" is probably a little bit too much to ask.

"Black style" exhibit hits New York City

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Style in the News

Since the 1920s, "black style" has had significant influence on the world of fashion. According to NPR, these effects are being recognized in an exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York, which is on display from September 9 to February 19.

The exhibit displays the transformation of this style throughout history, and the way it's become such a huge part of American culture. Not only are hip-hop celebs' clothing on display, like LL Cool J, Tina Turner, and Beyoncé, famous black designer Stephen Burrows also gets a spot.

Sean "Diddy" Combs, an influential music and fashion figure, says that everything from the Harlem Renaissance to today's hip-hop music videos are an inspiration to black designers.

The past 20 years have been huge in the development of the hip-hop style, and it's cool this "revolution" is being recognized as a part of history.
