Marion Cotillard is Lady Dior - But What's in Her Bag?

Filed under: Handbags, Style in the News

Marion Cotillard continues to shine as the face of Dior -- and specifically the Lady Dior handbag.

The French fashion house just released a new campaign -- above the first of three images -- that will be revealed over the next four months, all shot by Annie Leibovitz.

The concept: Lady Dior travels to New York for "an encounter between two women in the world's most theatrical city." Colors are dramatic, contrasting the brand's shade of red against a dark backdrop.

The first image is explained in sonnet form: "The symbol of the Mirror/for a woman with a double life/daring by day, femme fatale by night." And teases us to find out what Lady Dior's hiding in her bag (as they did in the short film).

You've got us: What is in her bag? It's got to be something good since they're keeping us intrigued with this campaign!

Poor Lindsay Lohan.

Just as her Sevin Nyne Tanning Mist was catching on (it's already a best-seller at Sephora), LiLo and her business partners get slapped with a lawsuit.

According to WWD, inventor Jennifer Sunday said she pitched the idea to Lohan and her partners this year, they entered into a confidentiality agreement and then La Lohan and co. bailed -- taking Sunday's trade secret with them.

Marion Cotillard's Hair - Curly vs. Straight

Filed under: Hair Cut and Style

Marion Cotillard became famous for her chameleon-like turn as Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose," but the actress makes a hobby out of transforming her own image off-camera, too. Especially with her various hairstyles.

Most often seen wearing her hair in beautiful, ribbon-like curls, Cotillard stepped out at the London premiere for "Public Enemies" last night (June 29) with poker-straight hair, the top half styled into a formidable pompadour. (There was a slight mullet thing going on as well -- a hair stunt only a Dior muse/Oscar-winning actress could pull off.)

Cotillard's so gorgeous, she could make a buzz cut look chic, but there is something about her curly hair that just makes her seem that much more glamorous and mysterious (to me, anyway).

Beyoncé's Ultra Revealing BET Minidress - Hot or Not?

At last night's BET Awards (June 28) held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Beyoncé hit the red carpet in a shimmery Balmain minidress with a hemline that fell only a few inches below her hips.

The sequin- and crystal-adorned number featured a smattering of purple flowers and Balmain's trademark Eighties-style shoulder pads.

The dress -- or shall we say shirt -- also featured a provocative jagged hemline that we thought Beyoncé wore with enviable ease. She completed her look with purple Dior T-strap sandals with beaded heels.

Inside the Auditorium, Beyoncé performed Sarah Mclachlan's "Angel" and "Ave Maria," where the songstress again rocked Balmain, this time it was one of the label's long white jackets, over a bodysuit for a wedding-inspired number.

Have shortened hemlines gone too far? Or in the case of Beyoncé, who looked undeniably hot, is the thigh the limit?

Suspects Held in Harry Winston Diamond Heist

Filed under: Style in the News

Stolen baubles! Police recover part of the stolen jewels from the multimillion dollar Harry Winston heist in Paris. Photo: Francois Guillot/AFP/Getty Images

Looks like real life doesn't go the way of "The Thomas Crown Affair!"

Last December, jewel thieves set a new record when they made off with an estimated $118 million worth of Harry Winston jewelry in Paris.

Dressed in drag, the thieves pulled off the mega-heist during prime rush hour, and only 330 feet away from a police station.

Good news for Harry Winston, though, WWD reports that Monday night French police arrested 32 suspects for questioning. ABC News adds that all the suspects are local (perhaps from the Paris suburbs), but no charges have been filed. The suspects currently range from 22 to 67 in age and can be held for up to 96 hours.

Compared to this, the $400,000 in missing Dior jewelry from Lindsay Lohan's ELLE magazine photo shoot looks like chump change!

Cotillard details the highs and lows of starring opposite Johnny Depp, who plays John Dillinger, in the upcoming film "Public Enemies." (From the sound of it, there weren't any lows...)

Quick Hits... Galliano's 2010 Resort Collection for Dior

Eschewing the traditional runway show in a staunchy midtown locale, editors invited to the Christian Dior resort show in NYC yesterday were sent a map to a quiet street in Tribeca.

Upon arriving, guests were escorted into a marble laden townhouse that was decorated with strategically placed mannequins throughout.

Once I saw the long pool in the second room, I was sure that it was a sleek new downtown hotel, but alas! "It's a private residence," said the pencil skirt-clad attendant. "On the market for $24 million." How fitting.

Dior's 'The Lady Noire Affair' Chapter 1 - Now Showing

"The Lady Noire Affair" finally premiered today, but even after many repeated viewings, the suspense is still killing me. It's that good.

The black-and-white thriller is a pitch-perfect hommage to Alfred Hitchcock's films, from the shadowy cinematography to the film score's screeching strings to the extreme closeups of Marion Cotillard's eyes. (By the way, her eye makeup is absolutely stellar, and it's my personal mission to let you know exactly what shadow she's wearing on those lids. Stay tuned.)

But the Hitchcock and Dior connection is no coincidence -- Christian Dior worked on the late director's film, "Stage Fright," in 1950.

Marion Cotillard Stars in Dior's New Film

Filed under: Style in the News

Love fashion? Love film? Then get ready to feast your eyes on the most intriguing movie this side of Memorial Day.

Oscar winner Marion Cotillard stars in a cinematic campaign for Dior, entitled "The Lady Noire Affair." The film is pure Hitchcock, and the iconic Lady Dior handbag, the mystery's most intriguing character (aside from a stunning Cotillard, that is).

Here's a sneak preview of what's to come. Then visit us tomorrow for "Lady Dior Paris," the first in the four-part series, each set in a different city.

Cannes Beauty - The Dior Suite

A breathtaking seaside view. Photo courtesy of Dior.

Here's the thing about Cannes. While Sundance is known for its B-list gifting suites, where celebs get free jeans and rhinestone-encrusted PDAs, Cannes brings something else to the table -- the Dior Suite.

The ultra-private suite, given the kicky name Rendez-Vous Beauté DIOR, is where the Dior camp sets up shop to let A-list guests prepare, escape and unwind from the hubbub without being too far away from the action. The Dior Suite is located in the Majestic Hotel, which is the top hotel on the Croisette (where the premieres are held). You can actually hear the fans' screams from street level.

Make Like Michelle Obama and Ditch the Pantyhose

I thought Michelle Obama made one giant leap for womankind when she ragged on pantyhose on "The View" last year -- "[They're] inconvenient!" she said -- but this spring, others would beg to disagree.

At DoubleX.com, one female columnist makes the valid point that while going bare-legged may be liberating, the preparation it can entail -- waxing, exfoliating, cellulite-busting and self-tanning -- is hardly a free-wheeling alternative.

I'm not so sure. You can stretch out any beautifying routine to Kimora Lee-esque proportions, or you can do a rush job. I suggest aiming for somewhere in the middle, like taking a few careful minutes to apply these incredible leg enhancing products.

Dior Master Class - How to Get a Beautiful Bronzed Look

We had a plan, and the tools to make it happen! Photo by C. Lincoln

Dramatic makeup on the runway is inspiring, but few of us have the skills or patience to recreate the looks at home. That's why we were thrilled to get an invitation for a Dior Master Makeup class at Neiman Marcus, led by professional makeup artist Karen Hummel.

Along with 15 other lucky ladies, we watched Karen transform a willing volunteer from regular chick to runway goddess, giving her the trendy bronzed look that's perfect for spring and summer. Then we all got a chance to try doing it ourselves, with expert guidance from the Dior experts -- and mixed results!

Babydoll Lips - Lady Gaga Wears Fall Beauty Trend Early

In yet another instance of a precocious celebrity wearing a fall beauty trend early, witness Lady Gaga's baby-doll lips, seen today as the star left Radio One in London (with her newest accessory in tow - a tea cup). Her lipstick was carefully inked only in the center of the lips, and the sides were erased with strategically applied concealer.

Many of the Fall runway shows used makeup tricks to create surreal lips (McQueen's Ronald McDonald version and Ungaro's two toned beauties were a few extreme examples). But the pouts Gaga is gaga for were seen at Dior (below, left) and Galliano (below, right). At Dior makeup artist Pat McGrath concentrated color in the center of the lips to achieve a geisha look. Galliano's "frozen Ukrainian brides," also created by McGrath, featured a similar lip shape for an "ethereal" look.

Will we see more celebrities wearing this Kewpie-cute trend? Maybe, baby.
