American Idol stylist correction: Mr. Miles couldn't help Ramiele

Filed under: Style in the News, Hair Care, Celebrities with Style

The fashions on American Idol are as fun as the singing, and in some cases far more entertaining. Case in point, please see Sanjaya's many hair "experiments" and then count how many of his songs are on your iPod.

This past season was no exception, and we issued an impassioned plea to Ramiele Malubay to let Mr. Miles, stylist to the stars, help her "up" her fashion game. Imagine our giddy surprise when the actual Mr. Miles dropped us a line to say that the girls were styled by this season by Blair Levin.

We couldn't find much information about Ms. Levin, but she worked on mafia caper/girl power film Wise Girls, starring Mira Sorvino and Mariah Carey. From the trailer (above) it looks like something we'd love to see, and discuss over drinks with her!

Blair, call us next time you're in SF. We're buying if you're willing to dish!

Stylishly swank in cyberspace - The Bar

the bar.comIt's Valentine's Eve, dolls. What are you up to? Prepping those final ingredients for a fabulously romantic dinner that you're cooking? Wrapping a tiny sparkling gift in pink and red paper? Doing your nails?

None of the above! Because what you should be doing is relaxing during this Happy Hour with a Valentine's Day-inspired cocktail. TheBar.com is a new interactive site that introduces you to "Jack," the bartender who actually speaks to you from behind a swanky bar. His accent is a little weird, but it's fun to ask him to make you a drink. The site is built on the largest drinks database, so there probably isn't something that this Jack could mix up for you for Valentine's Day!

Celebrate good...beer?

We're deep into the cool days of autumn, and soon the frigid nights of winter will arrive. With the changing of the seasons, the brewmasters of the world bring us a little something special: seasonal beers. Last night, it was cold and rainy here in Georgia, and I decided it was time to tap into the world of a winter brew.

My choice? Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. I had a couple reasons for my pick: (1) I'm of a fan of the year-round Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, (2) The label was so enticing -- I just couldn't resist. The picture of the snow-covered cottage and Christmas-colored text made it feel like December (and it just looks cool).

I'm usually one to pick more of a rare brew, rather than mainstream, but the Celebration Ale is just plain good. It's got a very strong taste ("robust" in beer terminology) and will leave that warm, satisfied feeling in your stomach and in your face. The Sierra Nevada website lists several awards for this ale, along with a quote from the San Francisco Chronicle: "...best beer ever made in America."

It's always more interesting to try beers like this, instead of sticking to the standard brews!
