Kate Bosworth Plays Hostess at Private Rodarte Dinner

Filed under: Style in the News

Last night, a select handful of fashion mavens celebrated Rodarte designers Laura and Kate Mulleavy at a private dinner hosted by Kate Bosworth.

Guests including Emma Watson, Plum Sykes and Trish Goff joined in toasting the American design duo at London's luxury retailer Harvey Nichols, where Rodarte has been a smash hit.

Kate Bosworth looked radiant in a knee-length nude Rodarte dress with amazing back detail, while Emma Watson stunned in an edgy black and blue draped Rodarte frock. (Watson is clearly coming into her own -- her look would knock Harry Potter's cape off.)

The menu consisted of nettle soup, whole roasted lemon sole niçoise and strawberry three ways, while attendees toasted with signature drinks including a vodka, cucumber, mint cocktail, elderflower pressé and Harvey Nichols pink champagne.

A feast fit for an amazing design team!

HOTList for the Week of March 2, 2009

Every week there are a few stories that totally capture our attention. The HOTlist gives you the top five celeb sagas we're watching this week at StyleList.

Yes, Chris Brown and Rihanna are the top story, once again.

Sorry, we'd love to give them both some space to get things figured out, but the paparazzi caught Chris playing on the jet ski at Diddy's house in Miami ... and, well, that's not exactly keeping a low profile and meditating with your pastor, is it?

Also, we heard that he and Rihanna are back together, and trying to make it work.

Oh, dear. We've seen this movie before, and it gets pretty intense in the middle, right before she dumps him forever. Where's the real life fast forward button?

Other stories include sad Katie Holmes, Snoop Dogg and his religious right(s), Hayden Panettiere's newest older man, and the lovely Emma Watson showing a whole generation of young actresses how well they could be acting.

Emma Watson in Alexander McQueen - I Want That!

Emma WatsonEmma Watson wearing Alexander McQueen. Need we say more? This little lady has all the style in the world. It's sophisticated but still fun, young, and very European. We think Paris Hilton some people could use a lesson or two from Emma.

Emma WatsonAt one of Britain's biggest summer social events, the Cartier International Polo Tournament, actress Emma Watson certainly held her own in an elegant dress by French designer Charles Anatase. We also loved her fresh face with just a pop of classic red on the lip.

Emma Watson lands major Chanel deal

Not only is Emma Watson the cleverest witch of her age in the Harry Potter movies, but she's also apparently an awfully clever young actress. According to the Daily Mail, the 18-year-old has landed a £3 million deal with Chanel.

Emma, who recently signed up with the modeling agency Storm will take over for Keira Knightly as the new face of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle fragrance. Chanel has been dressing the young starlet for premieres and parties over the last few months and is now apparently convinced that the actress best known for her role as Hermione Granger wears the brand elegantly enough to represent it.

Harry Potter Head to Toe: Dressing up for film and book release parties

Filed under: Style in the News, Books

HP Head to ToeJuly 2007 is the ultimate month for Harry Potter. Not only is the fifth film coming out on July 11, but the final book of the series will hit bookshelves on July 21. As someone who grew up with these characters, I am incredibly excited for all the upcoming events. In fact, my friends and I have already bought our midnight tickets to a special Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix IMAX 3D showing and we intend to attend release parties at as many bookstores as possible. And yes, we will dress up, but we will do it very carefully.

See, anyone not under the age of eighteen is probably a little too old to dress as their favorite characters without looking completely stupid. Well, fear not fellow over-eighteen Harry Potter geeks! I have created a guide to help you show your HP love as well as maintain some semblance of dignity at the same time. This is based mainly on the female version of the ever-popular Hogwarts student uniform, so if you're hoping to dress as a lady-Hagrid or a centaur, I'm afraid you will have to look elsewhere.

Remember to keep calm and carry on

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Celebrities with Style

Emma Watson and Rupert Grint looked great at the Paris premiere of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Watson didn't dress as wackily as she usually does (it's almost as if she dresses strictly according to a StyleFoul guide or something), but Grint stuck with his usual "too cool to dress up" style, wearing faded jeans and t-shirts. However, I noticed that the shirt that he wore to this particular premiere has been popping up everywhere.

"Keep Calm and Carry On," his shirt says. It's actually an image/saying from a British World War II poster that was designed to assure citizens that all measures were being taken to defend the country against Germany. It has a strange relevance to the Western world's situation now, and is a nice juxtaposition to the scare tactics and fear mongering we see everywhere.

Plus, it's a cool shirt.

Edit: Apparently this is the original place that made these shirts, including the one that Rupert is wearing.

StyleFoul: Emma Watson's mangled bird dress

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

I don't want to be too mean -- after all, Emma is only 17 -- but this dress looks more like some magic-making costume for Hermione Granger than a real-life runway outfit.

She wore it for the Raisa Gorbachev Foundations Second Annual Gala Dinner in Hampton Court Palace (whatever that is), and -- judging by the look on her face -- she knows it was a mistake. Who knows, maybe she wore it on purpose because she thinks dressing up is stupid. It's the only explanation I can think of (and is the sort of thing I would've done when I was 17).

I know she's only in high school, but Emma is an international movie star. Doesn't she have a stylist? A publicist? Who let her wear that? Who thought it'd be cool to put feathers and a lighting bolt on the dress?
