Jeremy Piven's Head and the Hair That's Appeared There

Filed under: Men, Celebrities with Style

The Bald and the Beautiful

It looks like Jeremy Piven's receding hairline has actually advanced and perhaps received reinforcements over the last few years and we never really noticed or had the chance to compliment him on it.

    The Old Jeremy
We didn't actually catch this one (the NY Daily News did), and anyway that's not the point. The point is that the manipulation, however it was achieved, was done in such a tasteful and inconspicuous way that it went pretty much unnoticed. And if you're a man hoping to add some thickness up top or stop a receding hairline in its tracks and maybe even gain a few yards, Piven's head is definitely example of how to do that with some style.

    Jeremy in Transition
So, is Piven receiving help from a mid-life growth spurt? Or, perhaps benefiting from a very rare and belated phase of puberty? We're sure most men -- since most of us have male pattern balding somewhere in our genes -- would like to know: what's Jeremy's secret?

Jeremy With a Fine Head of Hair
We're thinking it was most likely hair plugs, but we're by no means an authority on the subject. What do you think Piven's got working for him?Propecia? Transplants? Or maybe spray-on hair?

Of course, not everyone fights to keep their coiffure -- some simply succumb to baldness, while others (like Jack Nicholson), try and beat nature to the punch.

While others lop off perfectly hearty locks -- like Natalie Portman did for her role in the movie V for Vendetta.

Matthew Mcconaughey went Mr. Clean for his role in the movie Reign of Fire.

And let's not forget Cate Blanchett, the always adorable English actress, who had to sport a buzz cut for her role in the 2002 movie, Heaven.

Denzel Washington, who can still grow a full head of hair, often opts for the closely-cropped look.

Jim Carey's summer buzz cut was a welcome departure from the lengthy man mane he'd been sporting for years.

Ugly Betty likes trashy bags

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause

If you follow Ugly Betty, you might have noticed Betty carrying around a funky new bag (like the one pictured here) in the "Odor in the Court" episode (also, if you don't watch the show, you really, really need to). The bag wasn't something chosen by the costume designers on set; it was actually a gift to America Ferrera (who plays Betty -- seriously, watch the show!) from Rebagz, and she liked it so much that she decided to wear it on the show.

Aside from being a cool enough bag to be featured on a show about fashion (even if it was carried by the least fashionable character), Rebagz items are all made from things like juice packs and rice sacks -- items that would typically be thrown away, but instead were reused to create a stunning and unusual item.

If the multicolor tote isn't quite your style, don't give up -- Rebagz has a number of bags in different colors and styles, so you're sure to find one that suits your personality.

Celeb cast-offs for the larger sizes

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing

jeansmartemmyI've often written about the Clothes Off Our Backs auctions over on Luxist. Many of the clothes worn at awards shows and other red carpet events are auctioned off online for a variety of worthy causes. Great gowns, celeb buzz, good causes, what could be sweeter right? One problem, most of the gowns are tiny (most of Hollywood is around a size 2 or 4). That's why it thrilled me to see a couple of larger gowns on sale. If you are a size 20, Mo"Nique's gown from her Oxygen TV special is up for bid. Or if you are a size 8, you can have Jean Smart's Nicole Miller gown from the Emmys. Neither one of these gowns has any bids on it last time I checked and bidding ends soon which means that you could own Mo'Nique's gown for only $300 (Jean Smart's wrinkled look Emmy gown has an opening bid of $1,000).
