Escada on the Brink of Bankruptcy

Things are looking grim for Escada.

The Munich-based luxury company is on the brink of bankruptcy, reports AFP.

The company currently only has enough liquidity to survive through August and has put together a debt restructuring plan that would have to be approved by 80 percent of its investors in order survive bankruptcy.

In addition, Escada's CEO, Bruno Saelzer states that they would cease trading if "98 of the 99 possible measures'" were not taken to save the luxury label, AFP adds.

Earlier this month, Saelzer told Bloomberg that he was optimistic the company would avoid insolvency, but things have taken a decidedly grimmer turn.

Since its start in the Seventies, Escada has been a red-carpet regular, including Katherine Heigl's sweeping red gown for the 2008 Oscars (see right).

Eva Herzigova is currently the face of Escada, but no word yet on whether advertising or other cutbacks are part of the 99 possible measures.

At this point, whatever it takes!

Katie Holmes in Escada - I Want That!

Katie Holmes, Tom CruiseAlthough we couldn't find any photos of Katie not clinging to husband Tom Cruise (lame), we did think she looked supremely stunning in this sparkly gown and strappy sandals. Tom sure likes 'em tall, doesn't he?

Escada for kids?

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing

Munich-based fashion house Escada has just announced that it will soon launch a kids clothing label with the help of Childre Worldwide Fashion. Escada, which is known for its well-tailored, sexy suits, hopes to market the new line to girls under the age of 16. You can look for these designs in department stores starting with the Fall/Winter 2007 collection. Of course, it's no surprise that Escada wants to get into this growing market. Many of Escada's high-end competitors, brands like Ralph Lauren, Burberry and Missoni already have had kids clothes for a few years now. If anything, they're a little behind the curve on this one. But, we'll see how these clothes fly with the under-16 set. I just hope Escada isn't planning on doing smaller versions of the signature wool suit. I don't know many 12-year-olds interested in wearing Baby Tweed Suits.

Your cell phone IS an accessory

baby phat motorolaFor a long time, we accessorized our cell phones with sparkly logo charms, Swarovski crystal face plates, and designer carrying cases from the likes of Kate Spade, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton. Well, designers are taking it one step up for us by designing the cell phones themselves. Now the cell phone doesn't have dangling accesories; with a designer logo, it is an accessory.

Most of them are geared to the female stylistas out there, as the designs are way girly pink. Closet Therapy has put together a decent summary of the phones out there from Dolce and Gabbana, Escada, Juicy Couture, and Kimora Lee Simmons for Baby Phat.
