Limited edition Swarovski trunks for those who want to be hated

Samsonite plus SwarovskiEvery once in a while, a product so outrageously extravagant and loud comes out that it boggles the mind that anyone would purchase it, braving the fiery death glares that they will surely face from strangers. A team-up between Samsonite and Swarovski have come up with such a product... Behold, the Samsonite Black Label trunk, covered in crystals and -- get this -- only 30 are in existence. Now, this thing is massive, so there's no way to subtly flash it like it's darling diamond earrings hiding under your hair until you pull it up. This thing is immediately and absolutely in-your-face and begging to be kicked over and smashed in a jealous rampage.

Love David Yurman but cringe at the price? Get "inspired" instead!

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

Slightly less reprehensible than stealing from independent designers, designer knock-offs still exist in a moral gray area. While police are cracking down on counterfeit handbag makers and sellers in New York, websites like Finders Keepers openly sell costume jewelry "inspired" by luxury designers like David Yurman and John Hardy.

It seems to us that the line in the sand is whether or not the item is trying to pass as the real thing. That fake Burberry bag might pass muster at the Junior League lunch, but any lady worth her pearls will be able to spot these fake David Yurman pieces a mile away. Two miles away!

Somehow, this means that they're worth $400 -- a price so high, that it makes these rather unfortunate looking sandals are the "most expensive production flip-flops in the world."

Members Only is back, and it's not cheap

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing

members onlyRemember those jackets -- those thin polyester (were they polyester? we don't even remember), with the standing, tabbed collar, knit cuffs and trim at the waist, and of course, the signature label that said "Members Only?" We might not recollect all that well because it was a style intended for the boys in the '80s, but the label is back, and this time, it's for the ladies.

If we recall correctly, Members Only jackets didn't cost more than a reasonable twenty bucks, and even with inflation over 20 years, we don't see that a jacket would be more than say, $75. However, Members Only is now somewhat of a luxury retro label, with jackets ranging near a thousand dollars. Granted, the jackets are made of leather, but still - nearly $1,000?!

Hey, if you don't want to go all out with a leather jackets, Members Only has departed from just jacket designs and has vests as well as dresses, which a re slightly more reasonably priced.

Members Only Classic Bomber Leather Jacket available for $990 from Revolve Clothing.

Are cheap shoes a thing of the past?

According to recent research conducted by Mintel, Payless might want to watch its back. The research indicates that over the next five years, the number of shoes purchased each year in the UK is expected to drop by seven percent, according to Manolo the Shoeblogger. And Manolo the Shoeblogger doesn't lie.

And why do I assume that means that cheap shoes are on their way out? Because one-third of the women questioned in the above poll said they now pay more for their shoes, which means that as they make their shoe purchases, they'll be looking for quality over quantity.

What woman do you know who has watched an episode of Sex and the City and not sighed over at least one beautiful pair of designer shoes? Years ago, only a select few were familiar with Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin, and now there are middle-school girls fawning over these sexy heels with the same look in their eyes I had when ogling the members of New Kids on the Block.

The ugliest purse $52,000 can buy

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing

Shockingly ugly Luis Vuitton bagHow much would you pay for a really nice purse? $100? $500? $1000? I suppose it's all relative -- depending on how much money you have. But no matter what you're paying, if you're splurging for something special, it's preferable that your something special isn't the ugliest purse on the face of the Earth.

Like this Louis Vuitton bag, for instance. I suppose, with a price tag of $52,000, you could call this a status symbol. However, I'd call it a symbol that you are a moron.

Fortunately, there are only five for sale in North America and 24 on sale worldwide.

Otherwise I might have to look at in real life -- and that would be gross.

Louis Vuitton Tribune Patchwork, review roundup

Is this bag worth $42,000? The Louis Vuitton company thinks so.

The Tribune Patchwork bags are out and if you read any bag blogs than you have probably already seen this bag and it's equally fugly companion bag. The bag which is composed of elements of other bags has stylemakers buzzing. Overall the verdict is grim, let's roundup a few places these bags have been evaluated:

The Bag Snob calls it " a collage of every gross bag Louis Vuitton has ever produced."

Mad About Bags likes it " for its difference and style."

Invade My Closet declares it is "definitely eyecatching."

ebelle5 says it is "too tacky to carry the Louis Vuitton name."

The Purse Page
describes it as " clear ode to all that is hideous, ridiculous and wrong with fashion."

The Fashion Police remark that "I can only imagine the "tribute" referred to here is a tribute to bad taste?'

And my quote? I say that if you decide to carry this bag you are sending a clear message to the world that you have more money than taste.
