Forget mascara - Stain your lashes!

Good news for light-lashed ladies -- Tarte has come out with a 4 Day Stay Lash Stain, so you can dye your lashes at home and reap the benefits of naturally dark-looking eye fringe for more than half a week!

While this might not be a huge deal to those of us with fairly dark eyelashes to begin with -- if you're only concerned with curl and volume, this probably isn't a product for you. However, we know how frustrating it is for women who have the really light, nearly transparent lashes to have long, dark lashes one moment, and then look completely different after jumping in the pool, or if you catch them first thing in the morning before applying mascara.

Of course, you could always have your lashes professionally dyed, but this seems like a much easier option, and it's just $18 at Sephora. What do you think?

Tip of the day: Shadow for your shape

Filed under: Cosmetics, Style Tip of the Day

Did you know that most makeup tips try to work the eye into an almond shape? It's true. The shape is considered the most flattering and extremely exotic. However, the tips often don't take into consideration those with deep set, wide set, small eyes, round eyes, or heavily hooded eyes. And if you wear glasses? Puh-lease, you'll never find info for that! Except for here that is.

Tip of the day: Best drugstore mascaras

Filed under: Cosmetics, Celebrities with Style, Style Tip of the Day

Over the last decade that we've been wearing makeup (yeah we had one of those dad's that forbid it until we were 16... laaaaame), we have probably tested every single mascara available at our local drugstore – no kidding. We had a great time testing over the years, particularly during a brief period of CVS employment that was strictly for the cosmetic discount. It was basically a crazed 2 month makeup rampage... ahhh the memories.

So after all of this time, we are pleased to share our findings with you.

Would you dye your eyelashes?

We looove long, dark, sexy eyelashes. Love them, love them, love them. We have no qualms about layering on the mascara, or even using false lashes should the occasion call for it. In fact, if we had the funds, we would probably be devotees of eyelash extensions. However, when we read about dying our eyelashes, we were a little surprised.

Tip of the day: Mascara 101

Filed under: Cosmetics, Steals and Deals, Style Tip of the Day

The perfect swipe. As women, we want our mascara to be a macho man -- thick, long, long-lasting, conditioning and waterproof. Okay, maybe that was the wrong metaphor but regardless, we expect a lot out of our mascara but we might not be doing our part in meeting our partner half way.

Here are a few helpful hints to get the best show out of your favorite mascara.

Could Spinlash solve your mascara woes?

Every cosmetics company has a mascara on the market that promises to volumize, lengthen, and eliminate clumps, but how many actually live up to the hype?

Second City Style thinks that Spinlash might be the answer to all of our mascara prayers. The mascara, which comes in black or brownish-black, has a rotating brush. It can spin both ways, allowing you to easily apply mascara to your top and bottom lashes.

Rest in Peace, Shu Uemera (1928-2007)

shu uemura tokyo lash bar, the artist, the curler
It's been a few weeks now that the news has been out, but we haven't gotten around to mentioning it here on Styledash until now. Shu Uemura, legendary makeup artist, passed away from acute pneumonia on December 29 in his home in Tokyo. Many of us know the name "Shu Uemura" either because we are die-hard fans of the miracle-working eyelash curler, or more recently for the launch of the Tokyo Lash Bar, a line of false eyelashes that make Tammy Faye look bare-faced. However, Shu Uemura is more than just eyelashes.

Uemura's life and career had always been underscored by a defiance of convention. He was the only man in his Tokyo Beauty School, then began his career as a makeup artist in Hollywood with an incredible transformation of Shirley Maclaine's Caucasian face to that of a Japanese geisha. From there, Uemura went on to become one of the most favored makeup artists in Hollywood.

We are sad that Mr Uemura has passed on, but we will most certainly remember his influence in Beauty every time we use a facial cleanser that cleans our faces better than soap because it has oil in it, curl our eyelashes, or put on a dramatic pair of false eyelashes.

Rest in peace, Shu Uemura.

Eyelashes taken to the extreme with Shu Uemera

shu uemera tokya lash barSo maybe your lashes have developed a lengthening immunity to your L'oreal Lash Out mascara because you've been piling on too much every day. And perhaps you haven't yet gotten your Holiday bonus to pay for those $8,000 eyelash implants. The next best thing, methinks, is the Tokyo Lash Bar from Shu Uemera. These babies are not for the faint of heart, nor for the faint of eye, for that matter. Anne already mentioned the Diamante lashes, perhaps as part of a costume for Halloween, but the entire collection gets even crazier, with inspiration from butterflies for the Premium Brown Feather Lashes with polka-dots. Start batting your eyelashes, and you just might get airborne!
