Poor people wearing Hermès - Provocative or downright wrong?

Filed under: Style in the News

If there's one thing Vogue is good for, it's stirring up a controversy. This time Vogue India has gone and done it with a photo shoot featuring lower income Indian families using accessories by exclusive -- read expensive -- designer brands.

I want that! Cameron's Fendi dress

Not to be out done by her co-star's lovely wife, Cameron Diaz glammed it up in a white Fendi dress at the Tokyo premiere of her film, "What Happens in Vegas." As always, Cam looked fresh, fun, and age appropriate. Love this girl!

Tip of the day: They call me mellow yellow (and grey)

Filed under: Clothing, Style Tip of the Day

We have seen the yellow and gray combo around for some time now. The sunny hue is completely complimentary of the soft neutral and a perfect pick for those with a cool skin tone. Plus, it's a lot less harsh than its bumblebee side kick, black and yellow.

Try giving some of these mellow yellow looks a whirl.

A new kind of wedgie for men

Filed under: Runway Trends, Accessories, Style in the News, Shoes, Men

We're not sure what to think of the latest trend to turn up on the runway: Fendi gave his male models wedges. Shoes that is. As in, he put them in heels.

True, men have been wearing subtle and not-so-subtle heels since Napoleon, and there was that outbreak of platform shoes in the 70s. Still, Fendi's decision has us stymied.

In theory, it's kind of a good idea. The wedge is a very comfortable heel in which to walk, it's not especially feminine -- a Louis heel will raise far more eyebrows -- but to us, there is something really weird about it.

Perhaps we're being stodgy, so let's put it to a vote. What are your thoughts about men in heels? Only good at a Gay Pride Parada, or the trend of tomorrow?

Is it okay for men to wear heels?

Karl, can we play with your toys?

Filed under: Style in the News

As we've mentioned, our economy kind of sucks right now.

In fact, our dollar is so weak that hoards of British birds and blokes are flocking to New York City to take advantage of their fortified Euros and British pounds at places like Barneys and Saks.

Fendi Paint-Your-Own-Baguette

Fendi - Paint-Your-Own Baguette Tote

I do a lot of crazy things but painting my own $1300.00 handbag is not one of them.

This coated canvas "paint-your-own" Fendi baguette is the same style of bag that was so hot in the 'Sex and the City' days. The only difference is that Carrie's bag didn't come blank and ready to decorate. Since you ain't no Carrie you have to get out your magic markers to create your own fabulous handbag.

Sounds fun (and scary) but how?

With Pantone Universe markers of course. Ten markers are packed inside a cute little Fendi box that comes with your blank canvas of a handbag. Decorate your little heart out but if you mess up you are SOL. The bags must be returned in their original condition only. A real shame if you aren't exactly a Picasso.

Buy this bag at eluxury.com if you are feeling crafty!

Tom Ford at Costco

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

Next time you're at Costco picking up a 5 gallon bucket of potato salad, you might want to stroll over to the sunglasses department. Tom Ford's eyewear is joining the surprisingly long list of designer goods being sold at the low-priced megamart. Prada, Versace, Fendi, and now Tom Ford -- it's all there for Costco members.

Yeah, I was surprised too -- I didn't even know that you could buy individually packaged sunglasses at Costco, much less a $1,300 purse. No, seriously, doesn't it seem sorta wrong to be buying designer handbags at Costco? What's next Cristal on the beer aisle at Wal-Mart?

If you're like me -- totally clueless about the world of Costco -- you ought to take a look at their website; just for your own entertainment. In the men's apparel section, you can grab anything from Citzens of Humanity jeans to a pair of teflon-coated mechanic's coveralls -- truly your 1-stop shop. Capitalism at its finest.

Celebrities at the celebration of the redesigned Fendi Rodeo Drive flagship store

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Some of the biggest names in fashion have been freshening up their flagship stores lately. In 2007, the biggest
news was that the Christian Dior flagship store in Paris got an extreme makeover, and now Fendi has done the same. Their flagship store on Rodeo Drive has been totally redesigned.

A-Listers flocked to the unveiling of the store. Lindsay Lohan, Mandy Moore, Kate Mara, Rose McGowan and Camila Alves were all in attendance. Ok, so maybe they aren't all A-Listers, but Camila Alves is at least a B-lister now that she's been sperminated by Matthew Mcconaughey. Pregnancy in Hollywood fast tracks you up the list.

Fendi has long been a favorite brand among celebrities. Rose McGowan said of their clothes, "I really don't think you can go wrong with Fendi. You'd be hard-pressed to go wrong with Fendi. I feel very lucky to be wearing this fabulous little gown. I'm a shoe and bag girl but this gown could be one of my favorites I've ever worn. It reminds me of being on top of a music box."

You can see Rose's dress in the gallery. What do you think of her look? I like it but, my favorite of the night was little cutie Kate Mara. The futuristic silver belt she's wearing spiced up an otherwise boring little black dress, although I'm not crazy about the rest of her accessories.

Would you wear a kwedge?

I noticed these new heels making the rounds in spring issues of the fashion magazines.

Fendi has come up with a new heel that is a cross between the popular wedge and my favorite, the kitten heel. I'm calling it a "kwedge" because it doesn't seem to have a name of its own. I haven't tried out this shoe yet but I know that the way I wear a wedge and the way I wear a kitten heel is a bit different. If ever there was a shoe designed to make a girl fall over it's this one, it has a five inch heel with a 1.25 inch platform. Also, the silhouette of the shoe seems off balanced and strange like some sort of bizarre animal hybrid, a leopard and a wildebeast. The shoes sell for $485.

The $2000 door knocker bag?

Filed under: Handbags, Events: On the Scene, Accessories, Style in the News

Last week, many people shared their opinions on the latest "it bag" from Chanel -- a $1000 tote that resembled a 13-gallon trash bag. In today's On the Street section of the Times Style Section, Bill Cunningham introduced us to another big money bag on the streets on New York: the Fendi double buckle constructed bag which starts at $2000. While it isn't quite as ridiculous as the $1000 trash bag, I have to say, the bulky leather buckles on this bag look a lot like garish country estate door knockers.

Makes me wonder: is anybody home?

Fendi bucket bag, hot or not?

Sometimes I fall for the strangest fashiony items, inexplicably ridiculous things that would never fit my life or my wallet. That weak-kneed feeling I get when spotting an Aston Martin on the freeway or noticing that a scruffy and sunglass-wearing Keanu Reeves has ducked into the same movie theater I am in also applies to fashion. I cannot have these things, and yet, I fall.

Case in point: here is this Fendi bucket bag with a Palazzo print. It's over-the-top, it's impractical, it resembles nothing more than a golden paint can that hangs awkwardly off the wrist. It would not be practical and I would forever spend my days searching for my keys at the bottom. And did I mention that it costs $1,410?

Am I demented or is this thing fabulous?
