Flatter Your Figure - What about shoes?

Filed under: Shoes, Flatter Your Figure

You can wear the most gorgeous dress, or put together the most flattering jeans and top, but so many people make a mistake when it comes to the last accessory they put on -- their shoes. You might not realize it, but the wrong shoes can take you from looking long and lean to appearing short and stumpy.

Of course, if you start off with the right pants, that's a great start, as is wearing the right style for your shape. And once you've done that, we've got the right shoes for you! Check out the gallery to see how you can look stylishly slim while still (hopefully) being able to walk.

Why aren't you wearing this? Color-Block Croc-Print Flats

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

Two trends that we can expect to continue through the fall season are color-blocking and animal prints. And, as you are probably well-aware, purple is the color this autumn, although there's something even more popular -- saving money in this uncertain economy.

Christina Hendricks' foot at the Emmys - StyleFoul!

Filed under: Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Red Carpet Trends

We love Christina Hendricks, in all of her sexy babiliciousness and glory. Watching her strut across the offices of Sterling Cooper makes us want to rush out for some hardcore vintage shopping and a box of red hair dye.

Let your feet get the fever for the mini-wedge

Sometimes you crave the ease of a flat, but you still want a little lift for your behind. That's when the miracle of the mini-wedge becomes evident.

It's like a mullet for your feet, (only, you know, attractive): all business up front, and a party in the back.

The 1" heel is comfortable enough to wear all day at the office or while hoofing around town for a night out with the girls. And while even a dressy flat feels casual, the slight angle on the mini-wedge gives your feet a little flair.

Designers are finally catching on to the magic this season, giving us mini-wedges in a rainbow of colors and styles, from open toe covered wedges to patent leather animal prints with stacked wood heels. It only takes a little looking on Piper Lime to find a mini-wedge for any and every outfit!

In the gallery, cute mini-wedge options that range from round toe purple suede to yellow huaraches sandals.

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

Where have these adorable flats been all our lives? The wild cacophony of fall colors, the textured canvas and mary jane cum belt buckle strap have us coming up with entire outfits based on these shoes. They'd look perfect with a knee length skirt or with our orange fall jacket. Sure, they're supposed to be Spring shoes, but all that means is that we can now buy them at a 55% discount. That is something we REALLY love.

Shoes of the day - Petit Prince flats by Melissa

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Must Haves

All grown-ups were children first. (But few remember it). - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

We all need reminding every now and then, don't we? These cute, cute flats from Melissa will remind you not to take yourself too seriously and are also good for the earth (you may remember that the Little Prince took very good care of his planet!)

Shoes of the day - Studio Pollini ruffle peep toe

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

The cobalt blue color of these Italian patent leather flats pretty much make them preppy perfection, but the ruffle ribbon and buckle detail is what sold us - it risks being too "girly" (though we're still not convinced there is such a thing) but instead manages to work in a very modern way. We also like that the formality of the shoe is downplayed by the peep-toe styling. All in all it's a fun shoe that lets play out your country club fantasies - assuming that's your thing!

Shoes of the day: Geox Victoria

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

You may be under the impression that Geox, the Italian maker of breathable shoes, only makes sneakers and shoes for kids - but you'd be wrong. They also make a line of fashionable shoes for women - case in point, the 'Victoria' in tumbled metallic leather, as pictured above.

This shoe would be a glittery accent to your outfit - almost like jewelry - and it's comfortable and "breathable" like all Geox shoes. They'd be so prim and proper if it weren't for that outrageously oversized buckle and the sexy cut - they're practically sandals!

About $130 at Geox stores nationwide. Go to Geoxusa.info for store locations.

Shoes of the day: J. Crew Salina patent leather ballet flats

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

While flipping through the August issue of British Vogue we came across an article where the writer (a self-proclaimed stiletto addict) reluctantly acknowledges that flats are currently having their moment under the fashion sun. She was forced to wear flats for six months due to a surgical procedure, and she basically admits that it wasn't that bad.

What? WHAT!

A bright ballet flat is the perfect shoe to take you from day to night, office to ladies' night, because it's so easy to pair with a variety of looks. It will look chic with a pair of tailored slacks for work and it'll give a pop of color to a pair of dark jeans. It'll also look fab with a cute little dress, and it gives you an excuse to add some bright, chunky jewelry to your ensemble.

Shoes of the Day: Moschino Cheap & Chic Soft Flat

moschino flatsThough we're inclined to run around all summer in nothing but the exact same pair of dark brown flip flops that "go with" everything from our ethnic print maxi dress to a pair of cut-offs, there are occasions when we may have to wear real shoes. It doesn't mean we have to be uncomfortable in a pair of skin-pinching, back-breaking stiletto heels. Moschino Cheap & Chic's flats are perfect for summer comfort because they are flat and have a rubber sole. The black and silver upper is made of leather and features a tiny strap to keep the shoes on your feet.

Moschino Cheap & Chic's black and silver flats are available from Revolve Clothing for $235.

The $50 flip flop near miss

As we mentioned in an earlier post, this weekend we had a blister emergency. After a false start, Band Aids saved the day, but we still wandered into Banana Republic, like a zombie, to see if they had inexpensive backless sandals we could buy and wear out of the store.

We're shaking our heads at ourselves, even writing that.

Oh, please, admit you've done the same thing, possibly more than once. It's slightly less reprehensible when you buy the $4 red checkered material flip flops at Walgreens, but it's the same behavior. Blowing cash on an impulse buy is practically a national pass-time.

Nanette Lepore for Keds: Spring/Summer 2008

Oh, Keds! How do we love thee? Let us count the ways.

The white canvas and leather lace ups stayed on our feet during everyday during elementary school. And as adults, we always make sure our closets include at least two pairs of adorable printed skimmers.
