Yesterday, there was Beckham mania for the launch of the Emporio Armani Underwear Fall/Winter 09/10 campaign, but Selfridges London has also reached out to charities for its centennial celebration.

After setting up a Havaianas (Brazil's best export after supermodels) customization pop-up shop, the British retailer has invited celebrities and designers, such as Paul Smith, Alek Wek, Jade Jagger and Lulu Guiness to join in on the DIY fun by designing their own pair of flip flops.

Starting June 15 until midnight on June 26 (London time), you can bid on the fashionable one-of-a-kind footwear via a silent auction on Selfridges' website. All proceeds will go to CLIC Sargent, a charity that supports children with cancer.

Christian Louboutin Thinks You Need Havaianas

He might be the king of high heels, but even Christian Louboutin knows that women can't live in stilettos alone. In fact, when asked how many pairs of shoes a woman should have, he said, "Every woman should own three pairs of shoes -- high heels, flats, and Havaianas."

Switch your shoe without changing your sole - Switchflops

While some of us are fortunate enough to live in a sunny climate, where we can wear sandals year round, many of us are pulling out coats and boots. However, even if you're gearing up for snow, we hope you have plans to travel someplace sunny and warm. And if so, we have the shoe for you.

Switchflops are the kind of invention we can't believe we didn't come up with first. There are several shoe styles to choose from (flats or wedges, or a kitten heel here, in three colors), but it's the variety of straps that make this shoe so interesting.

Yoga sandals - Om, my goodness

While we don't condone the wearing of flip-flops all the time, we definitely understand that there are times when nothing else will do. Going for a pedicure is certainly one of those times, as is hitting the beach, or heading to the gym to do some barefoot yoga. Those toes want to be free, and a stylish open-toe wedge just isn't going to cut it.

Flip-flops may give you cancer

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Celebrities with Style

Earlier this week we learned that flip-flops could mess up your feet, and today comes another attack on the summer-friendly footwear: it might cause cancer.

The news, while shocking at first, is really more straightforward that you might think. The outcry over open-toed sandals has less to with some mysterious connection between rubber, leather and sensitive skin, and more to do with that skin's increased exposure to the sun. Especially now that flip-flops -- once a common target of snakry style critics' disdain -- are becoming acceptable among celebs and the fashion elite, doctors are concerned that they'll see an increased number of foot cancer cases (and in fact, some doctors report that they already are).

Jack Johnson sings in summertime style

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Vintage and Retro, Swimwear and Lingerie, Celebrities with Style, Green Fashion

I'm so ready for summer. Winter is all fun and games until the holidays are over, and then it's just cold and crappy for no reason (other than scientific). I'm ready to spend my days wearing shorts and flip-flops with my toes in the sand and a drink in my hand. I want to be warm.

Enter the music of Jack Johnson. I bought his new CD, Sleep Through the Static, and I have officially put winter behind me (my back is to the door).

I could go on and on about the "greeness" of Jack. The album is sold in sleeves made from recycled materials and was recorded using 100% solar energy. Take that Amp. However, as awesome as that it, I'm not writing to share the effects on my conscience, but rather the thawing of my soul. You can use that if you want.

Jack Johnson
is the soundtrack to summertime. It's hard to listen to his music without skipping right to bikini season. I want to fill an ice chest with beer and invite some friends over to sit in the yard and laugh about our kids and our lives. It's a good feeling.

What does this have to do with style you ask? Everything, my friends, everything.

Flip-flops without the flop

Swamisz sandalFor some of you, the temperatures may be dropping over the next couple weeks, but for those of you in warm-weather climates, you probably have at least another month of wearing your flip-flops around town.

But why settle for those tired-looking, way-too-casual-looking sandals, when you could have a pair of Swamisz? Granted, at $45, they're a little more expensive than your average flip-flop, but they look way more interesting, and have the unique benefit of not flapping against your feet when you walk -- meaning you won't sound so annoying as you're strolling down the street.

Plus, they allow you to run more naturally, and are apparently worn by swamis and yogis in India. So, you'll probably get could karma just by trying them on. Bonus.

Wal-Mart's feet-burning flip-flops

Filed under: Stores We Love, Accessories, Shoes

Darlings, anyone with the most basic fashion sensibility knows that the only things more stylish than Wal-Mart shoes are... chemical burns!

Well, now you can have the best of both worlds, apparently. Check out this woman's account of her horrifying experience with some very normal-looking flip-flops that she bought from Wal-Mart. I didn't want to post any of the pictures of the serious burns left on her feet because some of you may find them quite unsettling.

Despite informing Wal-Mart of this major problem and hearing from someone else who experienced the same issue with identical flip-flops, not much progress has been made in the situation. The problem still has yet to be resolved and it looks like the woman's website will be updated as news comes in.

The scariest thing is that Wal-Mart is still selling the shoes. Sign of good customer care, right there.

How to look cool when it's hot this summer

When you live someplace that's at least 90 degrees for 4 months out of the year, you spend a lot of time trying to look like you're not a big, sweaty, uncomfortable mess. This summer I'm trying to perfect wearing flip-flops without looking like a slacker, and -- as I mentioned in a previous post -- I think I might be saved by the comeback of cool-looking shorts.

Women, however, have considerably more to worry about -- frizzy hair from summer humidity, the necessity to look tan even though we're all well-aware that sunbathing is a one-way ticket to cancer, etc. I'm afraid I won't be much help in this department, but Second City Style has some good suggestions for keep yourself looking good when the temperatures are out of control.

In a recent post, Joanne Molina recommends keeping your nails looking "naturally beautiful" with a manicure and pedicure, using a headband to control unruly hair, using self-tanner, and more.

After all, you're supposed to spend the summer having fun -- not feeling gross.

Beer in your sandals = Best. Party. Ever.

Summer is coming. And with the warmer weather comes the opportunity to ditch you shoes for the ultimate in laid-back, lazy-day footwear: the flip-flop sandal.

But why be content with a normal sandal, when you can have one that distributes booze? Seriously. How else are you going to sneak your favorite whiskey onto that alcohol-free beach than by cleverly concealing it inside the polyurethane encapsulated flask in the heel of your new pair of Reefs? (Not that I would do that -- just sayin'.)

Even if you frequent a beach where drinking is condoned, isn't it worth drinking like this just to impress your friends?

Plus, while I've never owned a pair of Reef sandals, word on the street is they're pretty comfortable. Although, as Uncrate notes: "after drinking all the Beam you've hidden in the heels, we doubt that will even be an issue."
