Oh, the things a girl will do to promote her movie when she thinks she's safely overseas, away from the prying lenses of Hollywood.

Tip of the day: Hot Paris trend - Ottavia et Emma

Filed under: Stores We Love, Clothing, Must Haves, Style Tip of the Day

Do you live French fashion as much as we do? Do you like to be the first to know about and wear trendy new designers? Then you are in for a real treat with designer Allesandra Coderoni.

Her new Ottavia et Emma line, named after her two young daughters, is chock full of sophisticated pieces that have made it the of-the-moment line in Paris. Their philosophy: "For a sophisticated woman who is feminine and elegant with a strong sense of quality and style," shines in the lines chic trousers, button ups, and ultra feminine frocks. It is the perfect juxtapose of masculine and feminine, simplicity and detail, and we're betting that it's only a matter of time before this line hits your favorite US stores.

Dior's star studded front row

At some fashion shows, front row watching is way more interesting than anything coming down the runway. Although that's not true in Dior's case because the clothes were beautiful too, the event did draw a varied crowd of celebs.

Unclear on the concept: The Monster Smart Car

Filed under: Style in the News

Until recently most Americans knew Smart Cars in the limited context of European vacations. Nearly getting run over in Rome, admiring their ability to navigate medieval cobblestone roads in France. Perhaps a sighting or two in the wilds of Canada.

The cute, practical and energy efficient two seaters finally became available in the states this year, and their popularity in cities is soaring. The waiting list, while not as long as for the fabulous electric Tesla Roadster, it's still pretty long.

We're afraid that this video will make them even more popular, but not in a good way. Imagine the least eco-friendly thing you could do a car. Make it a monster truck, right? Outrageous waste of gas, pointless dirt circling, loud distressing noises to upset the local wildlife. What could be more fun?!

The video appears to be from somewhere in the UK. While the commentary is hard to make out, the accent sounds vaguely English, or perhaps Scottish, going by the "tartan" emblazoned across the sad little Smart Car body perched atop monstrous, ginormous tires.

Looks like we don't have to be quite so embarrassed by NASCAR now.

French minister loses bet - has to wear pink Crocs

Filed under: Style in the News, Shoes

(Think that's bad? Click the photo to see more celebs - and one president - caught in Crocs!)

Olympic fashions were a hot topic during the run-up to the games in Beijing, and apparently the ripples haven't quite subsided. Before the Olympics, Roselyne Bachelot -- France's Minister of Health, Youth, and Sports -- made a bet with her country's team. If they come home from Beijing with 40 medals, she'll wear pink Crocs to work. Well, the French team came back with exactly enough to humiliate their minister: 7 golds, 16 silvers and 17 bronzes.

True to her word, Bachelot wore the fugly pink clodhoppers to work at the presidential palace in one of the snobbiest fashion capitals in the world. While it's funny to see a government minister wear Crocs in Paris, we don't think the stakes were high enough. Especially when you consider that the Olympic team from New Zealand had to wear the infamous clogs as part of their outfits in the opening ceremony.

Next time, the Olympic team needs to up the ante. Crocs heels? Shoe-pants, maybe?

Tip of the day: Agathe Saint-Girons

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

Are you as obsessed with how freaking cool the French are as we are? You are? Perfect because here's a little tidbit on a Parisian jewelry designer whose stuff is tough and European; totally influenced by the architecture and sculpture. All of the coolest fashion editors on our side of the pond and trendy fashionistas over there know about Agathe, aka ASG.

Her newest contemporary collection, full of double knuckle rings and armor looking pieces, can double as a killer piece of jewelry and protection during a street fight.

Check them out at her website and our gallery below.

Marc Jacobs (might have) got married over the weekend?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Or, then again, maybe not. After the NY Post reported that superstar designer Marc Jacobs exchanged vows Sunday with his lover Lorenzo Martone in a "civil solidarity pact," we see that celebrity gossip head Perez Hilton is saying it's not true. We don't really know what to believe at this point, except that we somehow tend to believe a gossip blogger over a printed publication. That's kinda newsworthy.

Although Marc and his boyfriend/husband are reportedly "very happy" together, it seems that Marc's way too busy planning for New York Fashion Week in September to set the record straight. Running his own line and acting as creative director for LV have apparently got him too tied up for a honeymoon.

If he did tie the knot, wouldn't he probably have made it known already? Unlike the weddings going on in California, France's civil solidarity pacts are not legally binding -- so maybe they're holding out for a stateside ceremony.

Karl Lagerfeld stops French traffic

"It's yellow, it's ugly, it doesn't go with anything, but it could save your life."

This is the tag line on France's new road-safety campaign for summer, which they've asked their super iconic countryman, Karl Lagerfeld, to star in.

Audrey Tautou to portray young Chanel

Filed under: Style in the News, Vintage and Retro, Fragrance, Celebrities with Style, Daily Obsession

Last month, we tipped Audrey Tautou to play Chanel in a new biopic of the French designer. Now we can confirm the rumors are true.

Tautou will play Chanel in a new movie to be called Coco avant Chanel (which means "Coco before Chanel" and which will focus on Coco's formative years, before she became known for her classic sense of style and her wonderful taste in smells). We didn't know much about the fashion legend's early life, but according to Variety, she learned to sew during her time in a Catholic orphanage after the death of her parents, and earned the nickname Coco after performing as a cabaret dancer - there's some perfect biopic material, right there.

Variety also reports that Tautou was (understandably, being the most famous hip and beautiful young Frenchwoman in Hollywood) the only choice for the role.

Angelina Jolie has been making headlines all week. Of course, she is a walking headline every week, and whenever she and Mr. Brad Pitt show themselves the crowds go wild. We feel their pain.

When not comparing baby bumps with costar Jack Black (key player in Twin-Gate), who is also expecting (well, his wife is), she is making the rounds at Cannes to promote their new animated film Kung Fu Panda. Oh, and she is having some fun with the media. Why not?

Angelina Jolie's having twins and she STILL looks great

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style

The 61st Cannes Film Festival is underway, and a very pregnant Angelina Jolie is on hand to promote her new animated flick, Kung Fu Panda. And, while she didn't give too much away about the film in an interview with co-star Jack Black, another secret was revealed, or, rather, confirmed -- she and Brad Pitt are expecting twins. To Angie's credit, she reacted gracefully to Jack spilling the baby beans -- check out the video here.

But hey, this is a style blog, so let's talk about how she looked (besides being pregnant), shall we?

Vintage Red makes shirts we love

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Style in the News, Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Men, Fragrance

Vintage Red's latest contribution to our closet is inspired by world travels, beers in Bali, and long laughs shared with "citizens of the world." It is a meeting of the travel inspired and the classically western, and it fits nicely.

Their Spring '08 line consists of three collections that are as distinct as they are similar. Tricky, that. They are split into Military Neutrals, Coastal Living, and South of France, respectively, and while there are the occasional pair of shorts or printed t-shirts, the majority of the line is button up shirts, both short sleeves and long.
