JCPenney Says No to Fur

JCPenney adYou might recall that, back in 2006, JCPenney was in some hot water with animal activists after some of their clothing labeled as having raccoon fur actually had fur from raccoon dogs, a species of dog in China. Well, the department store has been working hard to make up for its furry gaffe and has now announced that they are fur-free.

Giorgio Armani Gets Pinocchioed by PETA - Oscar Woes

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Red Carpet Trends, Green Fashion

PETA's ad featuring a photoshopped Giorgio ArmaniFollowing up on the escalating conflict between Giorgio Armani and the anti-fur crusaders at PETA, it looks like we could see some fireworks this month around Oscar time. As you may recall, after years of prodding Armani, it appeared that he was finally going to capitulate. Instead, he released a fall lineup filled with furry fashions. We don't know why he did it -- maybe just to tick PETA off. Now that PETA's going on an Oscar offensive, Armani may be wondering why he got into this slug fest.

Aretha Franklin's Star on Walk of Fame Vandalized by Fur Haters

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Aretha Franklin singing at the opening bell of the NY Stock ExchangeOk, maybe we were a little too hard on Aretha Franklin for what we perceive to be a millinery mishap at the inauguration. The bow wasn't really that huge. This week, we are totally incensed on Aretha's behalf, because some fur-punk decided to deface her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That's just flat out going too far. Insulting her choice in headgear is one thing, but desecrating the greatness of a soul legend by scrawling "Fur Hag" on her star ... that's just wrong.

Jaime Winstone at Cirque du Soleil - StyleFoul!

jaime winstone stylefoul at cirque du soleil

Friend of Lily Allen, sometimes model and "actress" Jaime Winstone failed to get the memo on fur -- that it's out of style, that Tim Gunn thinks it's rude, and most importantly, if you must wear it, at least match your pelts. Never wear squirrel (the hat) and albino ferret (the coat) together!

The Top 10 Worst Dressed Stars of 2008

    10. Maria Sharapova

Everyone wants the super-hot tennis starlet modeling their clothes and advertising their product -- so much so that Maria was the highest-paid female athlete in the world last year. So...why can't she buy a decent outfit?

    Andrew H. Walker, Getty Images

    9. Paris Hilton

Paris is perfectly capable of looking cute -- so it's shameful that she spends so much time dressed like a tacky transvestite...or a disco ball.

    Dave M. Benett, Getty Images

    8. Miley Cyrus

Note to teenage girls everywhere: You do not look older when you cake on foundation overdo the blue eyeshadow -- you look like a teenager wearing too much makeup. So Miley, quit wasting time texting naughty photos to your indiscreet boy toys, and spend that time paying attention to your stylist.

    Gregg DeGuire, WireImage

    7. Mariah Carey

Admittedly this outfit was cool -- when Mariah was 28...10 years ago. But no matter how amazing her body looks, at nearly 40-years-old the Queen of Pop needs to stop dressing like a tween.

    Theo Wargo, WireImage

    6. Heidi Montag

Speidi's less-attractive half makes the list partly because she dresses like a garish fashion goblin, but also because she's obnoxious.

    Michael Tran, FilmMagic

    5. Aubrey O'Day

Now that Aubrey's been ousted from Danity Kane, maybe we'll see less of her bra-less, thrift-store foul-ups on the red carpet. Because seriously, is that a table cloth wrapped around her waste? And we can see your nipples!

    Mark Von Holden, WireImage

    4. Mischa Barton

Remember when Mischa was an OC superstar and an up-and-coming fashion designer? We loved her then, too! But it's been a sad, sad fall from grace for the former Hollywood hottie. Oh, Mischa. No one likes this faux-hippie, woodland fairy look you've been forcing on us the past twelve months. Please let it go.

    Tim Whitby, Getty Images

    3. Paula Abdul

Like so many of the stars on this year's list, it's not just that they've been dressing like weirdos (or, Paula's case, like 19th-century English brigadier generals), but that they should know better! We're not talking about Tila Tequila-style MySpace celebrities -- these are bona fide A-listers with millions of dollars to spend on make-up artists, stylists, and fancy designer threads. So how can they leave the house like this?

    Ray Tamarra, Getty Images

    2. Solange Knowles

Less famous, less talented, and starved for attention. Ah, yes. The classic little sister syndrome strikes again -- and if Solange's freakish fashion forays are any indication, she's getting desperate for Beyonce-style stardom.

    Michael Loccisano, FilmMagic

    1. Madonna

Madge's unfortunate attempts to reclaim her fashion bravado often left us stunned -- but not in a good way. Maybe the Material Girl wanted to prove she wasn't Earth Mama Jolie just because she likes adopting foreign children, or that she's not really the boring English housewife Guy Ritchie made her out to be -- but regardless, Madonna spent 2008 trying way too hard, and wound up looking insincere, out of touch, or just absurd.

Parajumpers Road Test

Filed under: Stores We Love, Clothing, Product Reviews

Annie Scott in a Parajumpers jacket
When Parajumpers -- named for the 210th Rescue Squadron in Anchorage, Alaska -- sent us a sample of their charming short parka, we decided to give it a test that we doubt Robert Redford, Denise Richards, or Jennifer Garner (all Parajumpers fans) did: We wore it ice skating in Minnesota.

Karl Lagerfeld Defends Fur - 'Beasts' Would Kill Us if We Didn't Kill Them

Filed under: Style in the News, Green Fashion

Karl LagerfeldYou know, with so many fabulous faux fur options, it's hard to understand why some designers refuse to offer cruelty-free designs. Or, at least, it was, but now we understand perfectly. Karl Lagerfeld explained it to us -- if hunters don't kill those "beasts," they would kill us. Obviously -- don't you see the murderous tendencies in those baby seal eyes?

Khloe Kardashian naked for PETA - Stylefoul!

Celebs Get Naked for PETA

PETA is all about protecting animals in the wild -- but that shouldn't mean they have to make their celebrity campaigners look like they belong in the wild!

Khloe Kardashian's hair is out of control in this picture. It looks like a lion's mane. While crazy hair can be sexy in some instances, we think this is a little much. Her hair is bigger than her booty -- and when you're talking about a Kardashian rear-end that's saying a lot!

Plus, as with all PETA ads, the airbrushing team has gone overboard. Khloe and her sisters are all very pretty gals, but they do, in fact, have pores.

Maggie Gyllenhaal looked ethically questionable but gorgeous here, wearing a fox stole-looking item at a film benefit gala at the Museum of Modern Art on November 10, 2008 in New York City.
