Dress of the Day: Burberry Satin Stretch Shirtdress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

burberry satin shirt dressReally, just how many shirtdresses can we have? Is there a point at which we might have too many?

Never.

Especially when the next one we buy is a shiny bright fuschia short sleeve shirtdress from Burberry. The color is perfect for the bright color trends we're seeing for Spring. The satin dress has viscose and elastane so it stretches and hugs your curves. We love the detail on the seams, the top-button closure, and the belt at the natural waistline. The hemline falls to the knee.

Available from Bloomingdale's for $895.

How to wear neon (because it's like, totally back)

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Jeans, Dresses

According to the Glamour Fashion Blog (and apparently Parisian women), neon colors are back -- specifically acid green. I don't know about you, but I remember this trend from the first time around. Fortunately, at that point, I was tan, blonde, thin ... and a kid, and therefore I didn't really care about whether it was flattering. I only cared that it was cool.

My sense of personal style has evolved (somewhat) since then, and while I'm actually kind of excited about neon colors being acceptable again, I'm also nervous about how to wear them. I'm pretty sure acid green isn't the most flattering color for me.

Neon is, like, totally back

(click thumbnail to view photo)

  • Totally tubular
  • That's hot ... hot pink
  • Muted neon (is that an oxymoron?)
  • Bright sunshiny day
  • Acid green and totally rad

Shoes of the Day: Giuseppe Zanotti Rose Bud Satin Mules

giuseppe zanotti rose bud satin mules
If this pair of shoes weren't made for all the holidays and events in February, I don't what is. Party into the night for Mardi Gras? Romantic dinner out on Valentine's Day? Okay, so maybe the red and bright fuschia color combination isn't right for the Super Bowl (both the Giants and Patriots are shades of blue and red).

Giuseppe Zanotti's Rose Bud Satin Mules have a fuschia satin upper and a matching color patent leather heel that stands at 4". Of course, the best part of the shoe is the enormous red satin rose. These are a great pair of sandals to "wow!" with a simple back dress, or add to an already colorful dress.

Available from Intermix for $595.

Superficial Inc.'s Disco Dress is on our radar

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

Superficial Inc.I've got a new designer on my radar thanks to BUST Magazine's most recent email newsletter. Superficial Inc. is a gorgeous line of dresses by designer Lindsey Boland, who has dubbed her creations "unique clothing for free spirits."

I took one peek at her website and was immediately in love. In fact, I had trouble deciding which of her dresses was my favorite: the adorable button sundress, perfect for summer and available in four different color combos or the disco dress, which features an eye-catching graphic embellishment along the empire waistline. The longer I look, the more I find myself lusting over the fuschia disco dress, which retails for $98. This dress could be worn so many different days: play up the disco inspiration at night with bold accessories and heels or go ahead and wear it during the cold winter days by layering it up with knit leggings and boots.

Superficial Inc. is currently based in Chicago, where Lindsey also operates Habit, a boutique dedicated to emerging designers. You can pick up her sassy dresses in person at Habit or online via her website.

Dress of the Day: Trina Turk Bonita Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

trina turk bonita minidressWe know that the jeweled neckline is "in," but we're still a little too chicken-shy to wear rhinestones and gems the size of baseballs stitched onto our collars. The U-shaped neckline on Trina Turk's Bonita Dress has, instead, more subtle sequins that whisper rather than scream "look at my chest!" The hothouse floral silk shift that's fully lined with cotton has flared bell sleeves and (barely) falls about 16" from the waist.

Available from Saks Fifth Avenue for $338.

Dress of the Day: Rory Beca Lupe Tunic Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

rory beca tunic dressWe're barely through Fall and we're already tired of cashmere sweater dresses.

Okay, that's not true, but there are only so many sweater dresses a girl could have before she feels a little stuffy.

Rory Beca's Lupe Tunic Dress is just the break we need (for now). The very short minidress (that can be worn for what it is -- a tunic -- over jeans or leggings) is 100% silk that's sheer on the three-quarter length sleeves. The dress shown is fuschia on gray, but also comes in a black/gray print, as well as a gorgeous orange on navy.

Available from Revolve Clothing for $297.

Dress of the Day: Laura Dahl Covent Garden Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

laura dahl covent garden dressAmong a sea of little black dresses, it's your chance to shine tonight at that cocktail hour, that dinner party, that bar/club/lounge, with a gorgeous, bright dress by Laura Dahl. The Covent Garden dress, made of a mostly cotton, silk blend, is a tunic style that features hand sewn diagonal pleats across the shoulder and bodice of the dress. The asymmetrical cut neckline shows off that collar bone and sexy shoulders.

Of course, the dress does come in black, too, so if you're afraid to shine in fuschia, you have options.

Available at Couture Candy for $163.

Dress of the Day: Catherine Malandrino Circle Emobroidery Blouson Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

catherine malandrino circle embroidery blouson dressSince it's Friday, I promise that Catherine Malandrino's Circle Embroidery Blouson Dress will be the last fuschia Dress of the Day I post this week.

But there's always next week!

And if the hot pink dresses are as H-O-T as this one, then who's complaining? The washed-silk dress has sexy little spaghetti straps to show off that late summer tan and your fragile little collar bones, a blouson body (because really, did you keep up that bikini-body all summer?) and on-seam pockets at the hip. Circle embroidery at the top and bottom hems are what give the dress its name.

The model in the picture is wearing dove gray pumps, but like I said before, black patent leather strappy sandals are the way I'd go.

Available from Shopbop for $475.

Dress of the Day: Trina Turk Judith Tank Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

trina turk judith tank dressI must be on some sort of hot pink kick. Yesterday I fall all over myself for Diane von Furstenberg's Aidia dress, and today, I am doing the same with Trina Turk's Judith tank dress.

I have no specs on this dress because the online store in which I found it is very poorly designed. However, the picture of the dress was enough for me. The dress is fuschia, features 1"-wide tankstraps, and a drop waist with slight gathering (very flattering!). The best part of the dress is the three-button detail at the bustline with ruching that definitely enhances whatever you have there.

It looks like this dress could go casual, but with a smart set of black patent leather accessories (yes,I know, for some reason I can't get away from fuschia and black patent leather -- it's the '80s in me).

Available from Amanda's Closet for $90 (down from $158).

Dress of the Day: Diane von Furstenberg Aidia Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

diane von fursternberg aidia dress"Gorgeous."

That's all I can say about this fuschia dress by Diane von Fursternberg. The color of the dress is actually called "beet," which makes me smile (since I'm a foodish freak like that). Though the dress is modest with its three-quarter length bell-shaped sleeves and shallow V-neck, the color and short hemline are sexy. Of course, the best part of the dress is the fact that it has pockets. Pockets!

I can't imagine wearing this dress with anything less than 4" stiletto heels in black patent leather. Sandals or pumps is up to you.

Available from Pink Mascara for $495.
