Reese Witherspoon's 'Monsters' Style - From Red Carpet to Your Closet

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

reese witherspoon at monsters premiere
Reese Witherspoon almost always looks completely lovely. She's mastered the art of looking fashionable and on trend without giving up any of her signature ladylike style. Her look at the Berlin premiere of "Monsters vs. Aliens" is a perfect example -- she looks young and fresh, but really, the look itself is pretty much ageless, which is why it just might be the right look for you!

Diane Kruger in Zac Posen - I Want That!

diane krugerApparently we aren't the only ones with a major Zac Posen affliction. Gorgeous actress Diane Kruger chose a blush taffeta confection by the designer for the Berlin Film Festival. We love this gown because it takes all of the most romantic elements of 18th century French Rococo and Baroque periods and brings them up to speed with a shiny, crinkly fabric and neutral hue. Diane further modernizes the look by pairing color with color (Read: navy satin clutch) and topping it all off with a cute, jeweled headband.

Heidi Klum in dVb - I Want That!

Heidi KluHeidi Klum has a body and a career that just won't quit! When she has some spare time off from filming Project Runway, she spends it taping "Germany's Next Topmodel." While taping the German television program in Las Vegas' Fashion Show mall, the ever youthful Klumster looked super cute and laid back in her trendy distressed flares, cardigan, and cheerful polka dot top.

The Diva Entertainment Awards - StyleFoul!

With a name like "The Diva Entertainment Awards" you know you're going to have an event with some high quality crazy. Add the location -- Germany -- and the mix is ripe for radically ugly gowns on people you've (mostly) never heard of, but are just as popular as David Hasslehoff ... in Germany.

The event, held at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich, Germany, offered shiny fabrics, lingerie-wearing spawn of forgotten 80's singers, and possibly the next star of Seussical the Musical -- she sings, and she's already set for wardrobe, believe us!

The NME awards are notorious for eccentric fashion choices, but none of them could compare to the outfit "created" by "music artist" La Roux. Wow.

Naomi's extra-long gown at the Vanity Fair Oscar afterparty seemed familiar. So we checked and, sure enough, we had seen it before -- on Daryl Hannah in the 1984 hit movie Splash!!

Michelle Monaghan sports an orange Louis Vuitton dress with a sequined side cut out. And tulle. And net. And mesh. And matching LV shoes with feathers. Will it ever stop?

Keira Knightley's smug expression is just begging us to judge this outfit that's somehow too small and too big at the same time.

    Getty Images

We just have two questions: Why is Tilda Swinton wearing the human flesh dress made by serial killer Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs? And couldn't she at least have it tailored to fit her?

Neither the color green nor those unfortunate shoulder pads are helping Jennifer Connelly look any healthier on the red carpet -- girl needs to eat!

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, went pattern crazy while playing with the puppies at the Metropolitan Police Dog Training Centre in Cornwall, UK.

Up-and-coming Australian actress Teresa Palmer is drop-dead gorgeous. The shiny hair, the bright, expressive eyes, the thin-but-not-scary-skinny body ... she seems to have the whole package. Except, maybe, for the whole dressing for the red carpet part.

    Getty Images

The thing is, we love the fit of this dress -- it's super flattering and classy. And Teresa shines in light colors, so the white and beige is beautiful. But seriously, what is the deal with the beige bra cups?

Should we get past the weird boob accessories since we love the rest of the look so much? Or are those a deal breaker?

    Getty Images

Of course Teresa isn't the only celeb who suffers from the occasional red carpet flop. Scarlett Johansson clearly has her off days.

Oversized gold coat, check. High waisted pants that are way more frumpy than fashionable, check. What the heck was Scarlett Johansson thinking when she wore this outfit to the photocall for The Spirit in Madrid? This outfit is old lady-ish, and not in the sometimes hip Mary-Kate Olsen kind of way.

September 11th Condoms - Tribute or Travesty?

Filed under: Style in the News, Men

two people on the street wearing condom costumesYes, you read that right -- a German entrepreneur with a highly warped sense of fashion ethics wants to use images of the Freedom Tower, built on ground zero, to promote his 9/11-themed condoms. In a move that's sure to draw some of the hate mail away from Bernie Madoff, Torsten Blueher has already applied for a federal trademark to use the tower on his new line of prophylactics featuring the words "Freedom Tower Make Love Not War."

German designs trend toward the über masculine - Big balls on the runway

Filed under: Red Carpet Trends, Must Haves

When it comes to fashion design, it seems pretty fair to say that feminine themes seem to dominate -- and for the most part, we're glad that they do -- but there are a few notable exceptions. For example, a German designer in the north eastern town of Heringsdorf unveiled these awesome scrotum-tastic designs back in October. We tried like heck, but no one on the interweb seems to know this ballsy designer's name. Too bad.

Larry Hagman at Oktoberfest - StyleFoul

Yes. That's J.R. Ewing in lederhosen. He never could resist a hat, be it cowboy or loden hut.

We could almost forgive Larry Hagman for this getup. He's in Germany for Oktoberfest, the beer festival immortalized in such film classics as Beerfest and Oktoberfest, and when in Rome...or Munich, right? Plus, he's the beloved Major Anthony Nelson from I Dream of Jeannie!

However, as you can see, the nether regions of his short pants appear to have a couple of openings. And he's using that area as a hand warmer, in a way that is similar to the device ladies use called a muff.

If he's doing what we think he's doing, we're surprised he doesn't look happier. Also, we hope he washes his hands before eating.

I want that! Grey Ant pants

Filed under: Daily Obsession, Get the Look

We first really noticed Diane Kruger in the movie Troy where she held her own alongside some of our favorite sexies -- Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, and Eric Bana. *sigh* After stalking her a little bit we learned that she is a German born model who now dates actor Joshua Jackson (Pacey anyone?), which makes sense since her style is such a great blend of laid back Americana with flirty European chic.

This daring pairing, which she wore at the Longchamp 60th anniversary party, is no exception. She waves her good old US of A flag with nautical inspiration, a slouchy fit and hat and mixes it with a crisp yet daring pair of high waisted trousers and cut off top, courtesy of her heritage across the pond.

"Too sexy for my bus"

Filed under: Events: On the Scene

Every now and then you manage to pull off something that looks really good. Maybe it's the outfit, maybe it's the extra 15 minutes you did at the gym last night, or maybe you're just having a killer hair day -- but have you ever looked so good you were too hot for public transportation?

You wish.

That, however, is exactly what happened to a German woman, who was nearly thrown off a bus by a driver who thought she was too sexy.

The woman told Germany's Bild newspaper: "Suddenly he stopped the bus ... He opened the door and shouted at me 'Your cleavage is distracting me every time I look into my mirror and I can't concentrate on traffic. If you don't sit somewhere else, I'm going to have to throw you off the bus."'

Now, while I understand that a low-cut top can make it difficult for men to focus, if this guy couldn't do his job because he found it impossible to quit staring, it sounds like his real problem is that he's kinda pervy.

In the end, the woman wasn't thrown off, as she opted to move seats for the duration of her commute. But, as you might suspect, she was humiliated.

Strange-flavored sausages

Filed under: Fashionable Food, Events: On the Scene

A German professor once told me, "In Germany, the weather is bad, except when it isn't it." And when it isn't, he explained, everyone celebrates.

This summer, a few unconventional German butchers welcomed the warmer weather with new exotic sausages flavored to taste like kiwis, maraschino cherries, lemons and chili peppers. The hope is that the new flavors will resonate with the warm weather tastes of their customers. (Presumably July is not peak Bratwurst season).

I'm not much of a Brat eater, but I would definitely give the Snapple-flavored sausages a try. They don't sound particularly appetizing, but, as they say, when in Berlin, do as the Berliners do -- unless it involves David Hasselhoff.

Would you eat a kiwi-flavored sausage?

Deutschland gets a Fashion Week

Filed under: Runway Trends, Events: On the Scene

Believe it or not, fashion is huge in Germany. Even though the Rhineland may not have droves of famous designers like its European brethren Italy and France, the cultural presence of the fashionable arts is well, omnipresent. From countless magazines to endless catalogs and stores, the nation of Germany is, in the word of The Kinks, a dedicated follower of fashion.

Now Germany has an official IMG Fashion Week to add to its sartorial legitimacy. Presumably German designers like Jil Sander, Wolfgang Joop, and Kai Kuhne will be on hand for the inaugural event that takes place from July 12-15 in Berlin.
