Anachrontastic!WTF? Look at this thing. The other side laces up. It's a parachuting corset.

Anachrontastic!

Goth fashion show at The Dark Knight premiere

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style

The Dark Knight is receiving a huge amount of buzz, largely due to the astounding performance of the late Heath Ledger as The Joker. Apparently he is riveting, and this "sequel" maintains the high standards of excitement and action set by director Chris Nolan's 2005 Batman Begins.

We love us some Christian Bale around here, especially when he's dressed up, like at the film's New York premiere on July 14th. Naturally he looked devastating, and even better, everyone at the screening looked goth. They were all dressed in black, as if for a funeral, or a wake. Which in a way, they sort of were.

Creepy cool Lady Grey Jewelry

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

What do you get when you mix a background in dental work with art school metals training? Well, when you multiply that interesting mix by two, the result is the just-this-side of macabre Lady Grey Jewelry.

Jill Martinelli and Sabine Le Guyader are the Mass Art-trained designers behind this bone/wood/icon obsessed line of necklaces, bracelets, rings and wearable objects. They work out of a studio in Brooklyn and as their totally cool site puts it, are "inspired by objects of decay -- such as teeth, branches and bones."

From Red Carpet to Your Closet: Mary Louise Parker at the Tony Awards

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

This year's Tony Awards had several, uh, interesting outfits, and while many of them did little more than raise an eyebrow, Mary Louise Parker went far above interesting -- all the way to fabulous. She took a chance with the fabrics and totally pulled it off.

What's even more exciting about this outfit is that the overall look is completely attainable for a mere mortal. Check out the gallery -- we'll show you how!

A secret craving for pink and green that only Lilly Pulitzer can satisfy

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style

We must confess: Deep in the pit of our black goth heart, we totally dig preppy stuff. Not just that punky plaid stuff. We're talking clothes that pair pink with green. Orange with turquoise. Bright yellow with more yellow.

It goes with the dream of a summer place on the Vineyard, preferably next door to Carly Simon. In the closet would be a vivid Lilly Pulitzer dress- and capri-filled wardrobe. We would also be pleasantly buzzed on G&Ts all day long, and tan without freckles or skin cancer.

Coffin Couches: Green and creepy

Filed under: Haute Home, Style in the News, Style for a Cause, Green Fashion

Have you ever seen a piece of furniture that you were just dying to have? Be careful what you ask for. Coffin Couches make sofas from actual recycled caskets. We're not sure how to tie that together, but it felt right.

Coffin Couches is the ultimate in green furniture design. The couches are made from coffins that they acquired from funeral homes. Apparently, due to health and safety issues, it is illegal for the general public to purchase used coffins, so the company was able to approach the funeral directors with the mindset of recycling.

Lighten up your goth pedicure for spring

It's springtime. Sunny. Getting hot. Even the most hardcore lads and ladies are sick of buckling and lacing up big, heavy shoes.

Yes, goths enjoy sandal season, too. But how to enhance goth feet?

The black mani/pedi is now terribly mainstream. The stripper clique really owns the red and black combo, as well as most graphic embellishments.

We need a fresh look: voila, the black with white tip pedi, aka the Joy Division.

Ask for it by name at your local nail salon. Or use that art school degree for something better than making coffee and do it yourself. Find all the necessary ingredients for an at home goth pedi in the gallery.

3Sixteen: T-shirts for royalty

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Men

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

3Sixteen calls themselves "the new royalty" and backs it up with the following:

Royalty is a title that has traditionally been acquired through birthright, financial gain or military prowess. Since the beginning of time, rulers have sought to maintain their power at the expense of the common people, thereby perpetuating the neverending[sic] struggle between the haves and have-nots.

Goth outfit or gothy costume?

GothCan you tell the difference between a Halloween witch costume and a genuine goth outfit? Well, put your goth radar to the test on this post from Coilhouse and pick out the costumes from the outfits.

I consider myself to be fairly well-aware of goth style and always thought that I've been pretty good at differentiating between goth chic and Hot Topic clearance rack crap. Okay, I admit... It looks like I'm wrong. I think I only got three out of the eight answers right. Time to throw aside my bat wings and hang my head in shame.

Who can really blame me, though? Some of these are too outrageous for any self-respecting goth to wear out. I mean, a witch's hat? Seriously? If one must go for the goth look, keep it sleek, keep it classy, keep it dark. Lose the dreads and scary platforms.

Interpol's Carlos D: from goth chic to whatever this is

Filed under: Men, Celebrities with Style

Carlos DThe boys of the band Interpol have always been some of the most stylish men of the music industry. They always sport nice ties and sweet three-piece suits, looking as refined as their music sounds. The sharpest of the bunch has got to be bassist Carlos D, who has become known for his slick black hair and overall goth chic look. However, lately he's let his hair go more natural and has even sprouted a mustache. In a recent interview, Carlos talked about how he doesn't feel as motivated to dress up anymore. In a way, that's kind of admirable because he's still managed to look pretty nice. I must admit, though, I prefer his long hair and black suits to his funny mustache and bolo ties.

What do you think? Upgrade or downgrade? Goth suits or bola ties?

The "corporate goth" look

Sure, I like Bram Stoker's Dracula (the 19th century novel, not the terrible 1990s movie), and every summer I re-read it at the beach. But am I ready for Dracula at the job?

As David Colman reports in an article titled "What I Like About Dracula" in yesterday's New York Times style section, the gothic look is suddenly big among non-Goths, like guys who have 9-5 jobs. Rather than going office casual, these guys are gussying themselves up with vampire-inspired fashion.

As Colman notes, corporate types are wearing silver-talon rings, silk ties with Maltese cross patterns and dark suits with blood red linings. Alexander McQueen is apparently the king of vampire vogue, with a Dark Prince-themed runway show and a lot of Omen-inspired designs.

Okay, maybe this is a cool fad. But maybe, just maybe, it will disappear before sunrise.
