Whenever we're looking for a new handbag, we tend to get distracted by the ones with bright colors, unusual textures, and funky patterns -- they're just so fun to look at! Why aren't you wearing this? Pure Pashmina Wrap

Even though it's cold out, there are certain times when a sweater just won't do. When we're hitting the club with our girlfriends or attending a cocktail party with our boy du jour, we want to look a little sexy, and sometimes that requires showing a little skin. But we don't want to be cold, of course, so we like to bring along a little wrap, like this Pure Pashmina Wrap, $59.99 at The Pashmina Store.

Filed under: Runway Trends, Clothing, Men

The gray suit legitimizes the hot pink top.You know all those bright accents you wore this summer? Bright with white was huge, and good news: you can still wear those brights, just pair them with gray. Gray, grey, however you want to spell it, it's in. For example, pair a bright top with the gray suit you see here from Banana Republic. Men, this tip goes for you, too.

Dress of the day - Striped sweater dress by Banana Republic

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

Who says looking polished equals being uncomfortable?

This sweater dress is about as easy as it gets - just slip it on and go. It's a great piece for early fall, because you can start out wearing without tights (picture after the jump) and then pile on the leggings and accessories as the weather cools. We love it cinched at the waist with a belt because it helps the dress show off your shape.

As an added bonus this dress is a silk/viscose/cotton blend that's machine washable. See? We told you it was easy!

$98 at Banana Republic

Fashion is crashin': Depression-era styles are coming back

Filed under: Style in the News

What's the hot color for this fall? According to designers at Banana Republic, H&M, and the Gap, it's depression-era grey. While they might be jumping the gun a little bit by repackaging styles from the Great Depression, it never hurts to try to stay ahead of the curve in the world of fashion. We haven't noticed any bread lines or wandering Okies -- do you feel like changing your style to suit the economy?

With all the talk about tooth art and the skyrocketing number of cosmetic surgeries in the US, it's hard to imagine people going back to the 30's for any other reason than for sheer novelty. Also, it's kind of an ironic way to try to boost slumping sales. The styles were previewed to Wall Street where they apparently got "mixed reviews." Basically, think Newsies: more hats, baggy pants, grey patterns, and utilitarian lace-up shoes.

Needless to say, we're not too wild about the look -- a little too costume-ish. Still, some of the styles will no doubt leak into the mainstream. If anything, we hope it's time for full-brimmed hats to make a comeback.

Tip of the day: They call me mellow yellow (and grey)

Filed under: Clothing, Style Tip of the Day

We have seen the yellow and gray combo around for some time now. The sunny hue is completely complimentary of the soft neutral and a perfect pick for those with a cool skin tone. Plus, it's a lot less harsh than its bumblebee side kick, black and yellow.

Try giving some of these mellow yellow looks a whirl.

Going grey can be great!

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Dresses, Cosmetics

In the 80s, did you have grey jazz shoes? Or are we showing our age? Maybe it's a little fashion nostalgia, but we're kinda into grey again.

This spring grey has been everywhere, from shoes to nails to dresses. We're loving the subtle and sophisticated ways the shade is being used, with creativity far beyond gym shorts and heathered wool sweaters. Grey is showing up in patent leather and organic cotton and everything in between.

When worn right, grey can be incredibly polished and flattering. Of course, some things are still better in color. We draw the line at grey hair -- you'll find us at the salon for regular root touch ups.

Fall 2008 Beauty Trend: Gray and Purple Eyes

Fall 2008 Beauty Trend: Gray/ Purple Eyes
I hate to be cliché and trust me I want to start smacking people around when I hear stuff like this but -- gray is the new black for Fall 2008. MAC's Trend Spot write up during New York Fashion Week declared that purple and gray are the colors to have your eyes this coming Fall.

If you want to capture this trend here are some great products for you:

NARS Single Eye Shadow: NARS makes a great eye shadow, I don't know why I don't use it more. The color always goes on strong and has nice staying power. This color is perfect for Fall 2008 because it's a combination of the two hottest shades for beauty ... gray and purple.

Bare Escentuals Wearable Eye Kit - Meet The Stones This kit by Bare Minerals has all the gray eye shadow that you will ever need. If for some reason these colors don't work for you, try mixing and matching to achieve your perfect shade of gray.

DuWop Gray Eyes I love DuWop's eyeshadow kits ... mostly because they are super cute. This kit is perfect for getting your perfectly gray, perfectly smokey eye for Fall 2008.

Sephora Brand Enchanted Eye Palette - Plum
I am a sucker for an eye palette, you get all you need and more in one neat little package. This palette will be your best friend in Fall 2008 because grays and purples are the "it" thing to have in your make up bag.

Urban Decay Matte Eyeshadow If you want color that goes on just like you see it in the container then Urban Decay is perfect for you. When I was in high school I bought a bright blue (I was in high school remember) from Urban Decay and that sucker went on bright! Probably a bit too bright for the way I was applying it but still.

Dress of the Day: Mint Drop Shoulder 'Crystal' Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

Mint Jodi Arnold Drop Shoulder Crystal DressI love soft, neutral colors. I love 100% silk with satin banding. I love the comfort and ease of a wide, open neckline that doesn't choke and short, ruffled sleeves that don't get in my way. I love no waistline. I love minidresses that can go from daytime in the office to early evening at that cute bistro on the corner.

But more than anything, I love a good deal.

Mint Jodi Arnold's Drop Shoulder Crystal Pleated Dress, available exclusively at ShopBop, is originally priced at $462, but is on sale for $138. That's a hot 70% off the original price!

Both the dress shown in off-white and the dark gray color are on sale.

Dress of the Day: Manoush Sweater Slip Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

manoush gray and black sweater slipdressThe morning's are cold. The afternoons are warm. Heck, truth be told, the way the weather keeps flip flopping on us from day to day, we can't figure out if we should dress for January or June.

Manoush's Sweater Slip Dress temporarily solves that problem for us. The upper part of the dress is a gray cable-knit sweater perfect for January, but don't think you can get winter that easy because it's a tank-style, which is about as confusing as a sleeveless turtleneck. The bottom of the dress is a wispy black sheer slip dress, which means you basically aren't wearing anything. However, throw on a pair of opaque tights, maybe a pair of rubber rain boots, and this little dress will take you through Spring clear into Summer.

Available on sale from Milk for $258.

Dress of the Day: Sabrina Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

Sabrina Dress from ModClothSo you weren't quite ready to jump forward into 2008, were you? Take more than a few steps back in time with the Sabrina Dress from ModCloth. The vintage-style dress is made of a thickly woven tweed with a metallic sheen in a palette of shades of gray. The scoop neck is lined with contrasting black grosgrain, and has flattering darts just above the bust. WIth a swing-y coat and a pair of black rubber rain boots, the Sabrina works well for January, and can take you straight into Spring when you switch your shoes to black patent heels with a sweet rounded-toe.

Available from Modcloth for $39.99

Shoes of the Day: Report Signature Guarda T-strap Pump

report signature guarda pumpFor some reason, it doesn't seem to write a blog post right after a post about a dress and not have the shoes actually match the dress! Though the Guarda Pump by Report Signature is a lighter gray than the sheer gray silk of the Rory Beca Lupe Tunic, the rounded-toe and T-strap styling seem to go so well with the minidress. With such a short hemline showing that much leg, you definitely want to make the most of it with height in your shoes. The Guarda pump has a 4¾" heel with a platform in the front (so it feels like a 4" heel). It also comes in black.

Available for $194.95 from Endless.com (which also has this girl's dream-come-true of overnight shipping).
