Eryn brinié - hitting the fine line between dreamy and droopy

Cool and versatile layers are all the rage this season, and we just discovered the lightest, airiest pieces that we are dying to add to our wardrobe. The new Korean line Eryn brinié just opened their first U.S. store in SoHo (on Broadway between Spring and Broome), and and it's filled with their fall collection in translucent shades of grey, lavender, mauve and ivory.

Shoes of the day: Eva by Shoes For Lovely People

This snakeskin flat in teal is an easy choice for summer - while the style is simple the color and texture is fun and will make your outfit pop. There's something very "greek isles" about this shoe, maybe it's the interlocking pattern (more views after the jump) that reminds us of the traditional greek key pattern, or the blue leather...or maybe it's just the fact that we wish we were vacationing in Greece. Whatever the reason, this shoe works!

We especially like the metallic trim; it's a detail not usually seen on a daytime shoe, but one that works beautifully with the teal color.

For the art history geek with a punk rock streak

Red Figure ChucksAs someone who has both studied art intensively for the past six years and lovingly worn Chuck Taylor All-Stars for about just as long, seeing these DIY'd Chucks fills my cold heart with joy. These otherwise normal black Chucks have been custom painted in the style of archaic Greek red-figure pottery (learn more about that style here). I tried painting a pair of white Chucks in the style of Mondrian when I was in high school, but I somehow managed to screw that up. Always paint one side at a time, kids. Anyway, seeing these shoes inspires me to get creative with my own sneakers. I have a pair of new off-white Chucks that are screaming for something fun.

Recently, the creator of these red-figure Chucks started to take commissions, but because of the time and detail involved, the price tag would run a bit high, up in the $200 zone. Honestly, though, with some research in the style, healthy dose good old patience, and some acrylic paints mixed with textile medium should be enough for anyone to do this at home. Penelope Cruz is a Grecian Goddess

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Hair Care, Celebrities with Style

I have always thought of Penelope Cruz as a little ethereal. She seems to effortlessly pull off a glamorous yet approachable look; mixing classic style with the latest trends very naturally.

Last week was no exception, as Ms. Cruz attended the Hollywood premier of her latest movie, Volver, wearing a creamy white, asymmetrically cut, beautifully draped Greek-style gown. Cruz accessorized the dress with diamond earrings and bangles, and wore her hair in an Audrey Hepburn-esque chignon. The overall effect may not have been "on trend", but was one of ageless, timeless beauty, which is refreshing to see amidst so many style-of-the-moment, leggings-clad celebrities.

The Spanish stunner is rumored to be a front-runner in the Oscar race for her performance in the all-Spanish Volver. If Cruz wins, she will be the first woman to take home the Best Actress award for a foreign-language film since Sophia Loren won in 1961.
