Barbecue in style

Traeger Pellet BBQ Pig Lil Pig Now that summer is on the way, it's time to start planning all the fantastic outdoor parties you'll throw this season. In order to feed your fabulous guests without rushing off into the house every five minutes, you may want to consider buying a grill.

Before you go crazy and get the first thing that'll cook a hot dog, remember that there are a number of things to consider. For instance, which is better -- gas or charcoal? How much cooking area do you need? What about rotisserie burners, or side burners, or infrared burners? And just what in the hell is a BTU?

The list is almost endless, but -- while discussing the necessity of these features will undoubtedly be useful in determining how much you're willing to pay -- what most people don't consider (but should), is how it looks.

Not to say this pink piggy is going to make the burgers better, but it'll certainly make for better conversation at your next backyard get-together. And sure, if you get a massive outdoor cooking machine with unbridled power (no matter what it looks like), you'll undoubtedly receive compliments and firm slaps on the back from your buddies in the neighborhood. That's nice and all, but if you're into throwing really good parties, the Lil' Pig is your ticket.

For a mere $1599, you'll get 418 square inches of cooking surface, an internal hopper, a stainless steel door handle, a multi-position digital thermostat control, and a fine-looking piece of yard art.

Let the barbecue begin!

Gourmet grilling with Kalamazoo

Filed under: Haute Home, Fashionable Food, Style in the News, Men

kalamazoo grillsWith the fall season being a great time to be with friends outdoors, what better way to spend it than with a new grill. And it's darn near impossible not to impress your friends with a nice, big, stainless-steel grill in your backyard. It's what makes me want to start saving my pennies for a Kalamazoo Grill.

Kalamazoo grills aren't your standard black charcoal grills or even seemingly high-priced gas grills. They are the "biggest, meanest, off-the-charts grill in the land," as the website puts it frankly. As customizable as these grills are (they offer a complete appliance and storage module catalog to purchase with the grill), you can turn your patio into a serious gourmet kitchen.

The "Bread Breaker" is their fairly standard model, but I'd say it's incorrectly named. It should be the "Bank Breaker," as prices start at $6,990. But it doesn't stop there -- the highest-priced grill on the website checks in at a whopping $21,950! Sure, the grill comes paired with granite countertops and can cook with hardwood, charcoal, or gas -- but a grill for more than $20,000? I first saw these grills featured on the Travel Channel's "Billionaire Toys," and one lucky billionaire spent more than $50,000 for his Kalamazoo -- fully customized of course.

These are for the ultra-rich and über-stylish, I'd say. If you had the money to spare, would you feel comfortable spending that much on a grill?
