Filed under: Style in the News

cindy jackson, surgical procedure world record holderEarlier this month we brought you the cockles warming story of Sarah Burge, an English woman who had spent over $1 million on surgical procedures in her quest to become a living Barbie doll. Ms. Burge had also recently wrestled the Guinness World Record for most surgical procedures from American Cindy Jackson. Or so we thought.

We got your murves right here, ladies and bear-lovers

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Men, Celebrities with Style

We always talk about women and how thin or "curvy" they are. As nice as it is to remind folks that women come in all shapes and sizes, we're tired of hearing all about what straight men like.

It's parity time. Here's the scoop (it's certainly not the skinny) on man shapes: sure, we like our men with "murves" but not so much that they can't fly on commercial airlines.

Really! Everyone likes Christian Bale better Batman Burly than all manorexic for The Machinist. And calling Colin Farrell: time to pound the Guinness and get manly again! It's important to have some meat on your bones. Looking like you can survive a little hibernation can be downright sexy. It gives off a sense of strength and stability. On the other end of the spectrum, if you can't find pants with zippers and pockets in your size, it's gone too far.

These are the most common categories of men with curves:

  • Cubs - usually occurs in younger men, once they discover beer, especially if they're a bit, erm, hairy.
  • Man weight - when they no longer have a smaller waist than their girlfriends. In the best scenarios it's "all muscle."
  • Burly - somewhere between here and man weight is the perfect Christian Bale/Batman moment. Between here and Bear: Russell Crowe.
  • Bear - Big. Hairy. Totally male. This is where most men wind up, especially if they are funny or a fan of Kathy Griffin.
  • Brando - like that episode when Homer Simpson wore a muumuu.

This eyewear is money

It's so money it doesn't even know it. Claw Money to be exact. Claw is the handle, so to speak, of an ex-graffiti artist named Claudia. She was the queen of NYC before moving to L.A. and going legit with a career in styling and costume design for music videos. Her clients included KORN, Brian McKnight, GNR and Ice Cube.

She returned to New York and did some television and print ad styling work for Nike, Guinness, and Footlocker, to name a few.

Now she writing books and designing all kinds of stuff, some of which we may show you in the future, but for now you'll have to be content with these sweet shades, the Nuggets ($300), Gazelles ($250), and Aviators ($230). Sweet shades, indeed . You know your future is so bright that you want to wear them.

Get Irish, quick!

Filed under: Holiday Style, Clothing, Men

Today, as you probably know, is St. Patrick's Day. This is the day that it's okay to embrace stereotypes and get totally drunk in public- the earlier the better!

There are a lot of ways to show your love for the Irish. While I can't recommend green beer I can definitely drink support numerous pints of Guinness. It's good, and it's good for you. (Don't drink and drive!)

Another way to get in the mood is the classic t-shirt. There are tons of them all over the internet. I decided to share some from Zazzle, a site that lets you create your own custom shirt. Granted, it's too late to order any of these shirts for tonight, but if you really cared about celebrating St. Paddy's you'd be drunk by now and not surfing the web anyway, so the point is moot.

I chose the "Get Drunk with Eliot" shirt because it's timely and possibly offensive, which is something that tends to be appreciated in a bar full of intoxicated people pinching each other. Not that I would know about that sort of thing.

Here are a few others that I thought in/appropriate:

Have a fun, safe St. Paddy's!
